PRESENTER

CLAIRA HERMET FIGHTS HER WAY TO THE TOP Claira began her presenting career in 2005, starting out in the world of live TV. She presented for Sky channels - Sky Vegas, Super Casino, Smart Live Casino and Eureka gaining over 60,000 hours of live presenting experience. Claira has the ability to make people feel relaxed and at ease in her presence, which was noticed by others. Then headhunted In March 2011 by the UK’s leading urban music portal Grime Daily and has already interviewed Trey Songz, Wiz Khalifa, Tinie Tempah, Fearne Cotton, Skepta, Ed Sheeran and many more. Since joining www.grimedaily.com Claira’s profile has rocketed, with her twitter followers shooting up from 200 to over 2000 in just 2 short months and still climbing.

How you doing Claira? We have seen your career rocket since the beginning of this year, how does it feel to have achieved what you have so far? So far so good but to be honest I’ve only started on the path to where I really want to be. I still have a full time job as well as presenting and for me the work never stops. I know where I want to be and until I get there I am a working progress. You are becoming a HOT icon in the industry, do you mind when people make references about the size of your b%7bs? (Bbm covering face) My boobs? No I’m so over all of that. Every female (and even some males) have them and I’m guessing they have since the start of human existence, yet for men breasts seem to hold some kind of magical powers!!! I know I have big boobs; it’s not a secret and these days, after years of reading YouTube comments on my video’s I’m not shocked by anything anymore. Some of them are so crazy! Everyone is entitled to an opinion and that’s cool with me. I know a lot of people would like to know… Do you have a boyfriend? If you don’t, what do you look for in a guy? Just so your fans know how to approach you lol I am 100% SINGLE!!! Single and ready to mingle lol. I look for someone with confidence, a sense of humour, success, ambition, knowledge, wisdom and kindness. They need to be a little bit crazy to match me and they must have a HUGE, MASSIVE, heart. People just need to talk to me. When I go out no one ever approaches me, except the super drunk person who by the time they talk to me doesn’t even know their own name. I don’t bite (well at least not until I know you) and I can hold a conversation. So people just need to approach me and say hi!!! That would be a great start. Your talent was discovered by Grime Daily, how did that happen? Posty of Grime Daily was actually a friend of mine for quite a while before I started doing anything for them. At the time I was working for another company and Grime Daily had a presenter. Then all of a sudden everything came together. I was free and Grime Daily needed a presenter so BAMMMM the deal was done. Since then it’s been fun all the way. QUICK FIRE INTERVIEW

How did the name WEAK2WEEK and the idea for your show come about? When I interview artists, it’s about the artist with just a little bit of me. I wanted people to see a little bit more of what I’m about and what makes CLAIRA. It’s called WEAK 2 WEEK because it’s a weekly show and I wanted people to see me go from strength to strength, the word weak being a play on that!!! Does that make sense? LOL I love doing the show, especially ‘Dare Claire’ and ‘Comment Corner’. It’s so much fun and sometimes I’m in a really crap mood and I go to film a dare and I’m soon smiling again! Are you constantly trying to improve your craft? HELL YES!!!! I’m constantly trying to push myself and get better at what I do. Ultimately being a presenter is just about being yourself and making that work. I just try to constantly improve myself as a person and learn more about myself. I’m always reading some book or another. I’m a qualified personal trainer and although I don’t train anyone anymore due to time restraints, I do train myself. I think exercise is really important to help keep you focused, positive, mentally strong, physically fit and healthy. You were brought up on a farm, what was that like? AMAZING!!! I was so lucky. It was my Granddad’s farm. We (my brother, sister and I) had freedom to run around without my parents having to worry about our safety. I had a pet sheep and ponies. I was incredibly blessed and it’s a time of my life I will never forget. Oh and I used to get naked and roll in muddles of mud, so not a lots changed really!!! Who is your favourite artist in the UK and why? I’m not going to pick one artist because there are so many to listen to and rate that it’s a question I simply can’t answer. Plus I’m lucky enough to be able to call a lot of them friends and I don’t want to get slapped. The UK has some super talented artists, which makes me feel incredibly proud. What advice would you give people trying to make it in the industry? Just get out there and do it. Think about where you want to be and what you want to achieve. Everybody has to start somewhere so START!!! Once you start DO NOT stop until you get where you want to be. It’s very rarely easy but if it’s what you want you have to stick at it and keep trying. If you knock and no one answers the door then kick the door down!! Do have any projects coming up? Now that would be telling!! There are a few very exciting things on the horizon, which will know doubt soon become apparent. Cryptic I know! @ClairaHermet

MR FOX

Hailing from the streets of London comes this East-born, North-raised MC going by the name of Mr.Fox (The Most Electrifying). His musical influences include hip-hop legends such as The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Wu-tang Clan, DMX, Big L and Jay-Z. Mr.Fox started rapping early, aged 11 but didn’t get serious until he turned 17. After being in and out of crews due to outshining his peers and becoming increasingly frustrated due to the lack of commitment, he decided to take leadership and form his own crew, The Brotherhood, whilst working on his own material and building an impressive portfolio. @mrfoxofficial

SELF

CONFIDENCE

I read somewhere.... “Give your body respect, and you’ll get respect from the rest of the world, too.” Who can relate to that?? Wearing new clothes with a groomed body underneath will make you feel great about yourself and give you much more confidence. The confidence will then be seen by others from how you conduct yourself which will draw positivity your way whether that’s compliments on your looks, promotion at work or a good outcome of a project. You will feel a boost in the way you feel about yourself and the start of a FEEL GOOD cycle will grow. All you need to do is get into a morning routine and maybe with a once a week pamper session, take time out for yourself and your body and watch self-esteem levels rise.

“GIVE YOUR BODY RESPECT, AND YOU’LL GET RESPECT FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD, TOO.”

Guys you can benefit from regular trims, keep that body in shape with a daily exercise routine, keep those thangs looking fresh, those nails (toes and fingers) trimmed and don’t forget to moisturise. Girls you can benefit from your hair looking and smelling its best, painted nails, make-up done, along with gleaming thangs, moisturised skin and perfectly shaped eyebrows.

Clothes are the main part to help with the feel good factor... some people put off spending money on themselves. If your due a shopping trip don’t put it off so you can go and buy those concert tickets or until you’ve lost that weight or built up those biceps. No times better than now, get that bag of confidence, or revamp your current wardrobe.. just don’t wear those frayed jeans and faded tops any longer... not a good look. Remember, if you don’t feel good in yourself others will see that.

A few key things added into a routine will make you feel great about yourself and you wont be caught off guard. Just don’t obsess over what you look like and don’t compare yourself to others, never ever put yourself down.. you are who you are and that’s the person your family and friends love. Eat healthy and take time out to sit down and enjoy a meal. A good way to exercise is regular outdoor runs, get some fresh air, time to yourself and when the weather permits, enjoy a nice summers evening breeze. Always keep your head up, walk tall as good posture will also boost self-confidence. Appreciate yourself and others around you.

A CUP OF T WITH

-BOY AND ADE

T-Boy aka Don’t Jealous Me and I Adelicious have hit us with a brand new comedy series called ‘A Cup Of T’ which holds a similar style to Little Britain or Little Miss Jocelyn, written by T-Boy himself. I Adelicious plays the characters Morpheus, Jimmy and Squares with T-Boy playing Leo, Big rick (local tough guy), Juju Man (African which doctor), Rupert (computer neek) and Marlon Davis (rudeboy) as they both show case there ability to perform multiple characters. The show which can be found on YouTube has become a massive hit with the first episode reaching 100,000 views in just 4 weeks.

T-BOY

IADELICIOUS

What would you be doing if you weren’t a comedian?? I was actually very keen on basketball, and if I wasn’t doing comedy I would certainly be pursuing that. Were you always funny growing up?? The people around me said I was! I was kind of a class clown….always cracking jokes Biggest inspiration... Who/what inspired you to be where you are today?? I’m a big Will Smith fan he’s my favourite actor. Black actors in Hollywood inspire me….I admire their struggle. Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?? Don’t listen to anyone else’s advice On a quiet night in, do you sit and laugh to yourself from your own material, if so what’s something that would do that?? I definitely wouldn’t watch myself! I would usually just watch a film or other comedians, Kevin Hart is hilarious!

Has anything you’ve ever said caused real offence to someone, if so what happened?? I hope not! What influences your comedy?? My sense of comedy is heavily influenced by the group of friends I have, we make jokes in the most serious of situations. What makes you cry/sad?? It takes a lot for me to be sad. I’m generally extremely positive about things which come from my belief and faith in God…so I try not to let things get to me. Does your family support what you do?? Definitely! My younger sister seems to know more about what I’m doing than I do! My nieces and nephews can recite entire sketches that we have done from beginning to end! Is there anything you really don’t find funny that people do and others may laugh at?? I’ve learnt that humour is such a personal feeling. If you don’t find a joke funny it’s either because you don’t understand where it’s coming from or the joke wasn’t delivered well. Your environment and culture generally determines what you find funny.

THIS IS

DRU BLU Dru Blu AKA Don Strapzy has worked with most UK Grime artists such as Ghetts, Giggs, King Zion, Young Mad B, Benny Banks, Joe Blackz, plus many more. He also has won the OMA best Newcomer in 2010 and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Dru Blu is trying to use music to help turn his life around and ultimately become a positive role model. Dru Blu follows the slogan of ‘stay loyal stay humble’ living by the saying “If every saint has a past, then every sinner must have a future”. Your track ‘Team UK’ ruffled a few feathers, what made you put that out? I analysed the UK Rap scene at the time ‘Team UK’ was made and I came to the conclusion that we have a huge underground Rap scene but not really a mainstream Rap scene, hence why I struggled to think of Rappers to mention. I just felt as though the scene was very tame and boring and was lacking entertainment for the listeners. Rap is a competitive industry and I just wanted to play with the concept and creatively mention Artists that are doing great things for the UK scene, hence the reason I either used the artists flow or referenced to their song titles. It is not a diss track I have no personal issues with these artists, it is just a tune for the fans of Rap music to be able to listen and enjoy the competitiveness and controversy that we as human beings love. I grew up on artists like Papoose, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Nas, no Rapper should be afraid to mention an artist’s name out of fear it could damage their career, as that wouldn’t be true to yourself as an artist. It’s all healthy and it’s all promotion. What’s your view on the music industry today?

The music industry is very healthy right now from an Urban side of things. However it is a very political industry, and is run by people that only look out for their own, its almost 90% who you know and 10% talent. If you don’t know the right people or don’t say what you’re supposed to say the door seems to remain closed. However I have a very powerful fly kick which will snap the hinges off the door if it remains closed much longer. I’m in villain mode. Who in the industry would you love to work with and why? Jennifer Lopez, but not for musical reasons so I suppose that wouldn’t count. Well UK wise I’d love to work with Adele. I’m a huge fan of her music, she is very passionate and her music is very real and something which we can all relate to and that’s a concept I pride my music on. Together I’m sure we would make great music and make a lot of money. US wise I’d love to work with Eminem as he is someone I am very inspired by. Who wouldn’t you like to work with and why? I wouldn’t like to work with Rizzlekicks because they remind me of the guys who used to tell me I need to bring my own equipment to school when I used to ask to borrow a pen in lesson.

CASSCADE

What keeps you motivated and positive? The response from my suppporters when I release music and constant positive tweets and inboxes I receive from them. Also when I’m out in public I always get people coming up to me showing love. That makes me feel like I must be doing something right and it helps me to feel positive about my career as it is a very stressful journey. My mothers work ethic and support from my family motivates me and the fact that if I make it I will be able to tell J-Lo to follow me on twitter and then get her number and I wont go into any further detail. What’s coming up from you? A whole load of stuff. My STREET ALBUM ‘This Is Don Strapzy’ releases on iTunes August 13th 2012. My Launch Party is August 20th 2012 where I will be performing live and mingling with supporters. My next single which we have not fully decided on yet but have a choice of 2 which will be releasing also late August. I will be following up end of the year with a Mainstream Album with a single ft Professor Green which I know will be a hit. So loads of stuff coming. Going to be a real busy few months. @DonDruBlu

Casscade has recently done a video to a track that was on his mix tape #SNEM titled ‘Thats how it goes’ check it out on YouTube. He recently got in contact with an artist in the USA called ‘SPOT’ from T.I’s label ‘Grand Hustle’. SPOT stated he was feeling what Casscade done on the track titled ‘Hometown’ from his Mix tape #SNEM (Sleepless Nights and Early Mornings) Maybe there is a feature in the pipeline. Look out for a video called ‘Zoning’ produced by D.A. A lot of people would be able to relate to it, it’s a warm-up to what he will be releasing. @casscadeartist

rant of the month YYYOOO GEE, WAH GWARN FAM!!!... That was me doing my best badman impression, pretty good right!! …I said PRETTY GOOD RIGHT!?!?! *HOLDS WAIST*… I kiiid, I kiiid, but seriously, today I wanna talk about the term “bad man” and “sweet boy” As a RnB Singer I’m no stranger to this “sweet” term so I wanna look into this a little! Now I got some friends who are bad boys, can’t go to a rave without beef and spend all their time making that money. And some who are sweet boys… they spend most of their time dancing or wearing skinnys, lets explore and you can discover where you are on the bad-ometre. Bad Boys tend to spend most of their time in the company of other bad boys. Bonds need to be strong if you’re gonna ride for each other right? So it makes sense. I however get bored surrounded by guys for a whole day unless there’s at least an Xbox in the room…. Sorry guys, I need some perfume up in here! Bad Boys HAVE to make money, if you’re a bad boy and you don’t make money you might as well get that McD application in now! This leads to a very dangerous life, and im too sexy to have scars or be in prison or dead over money! (shrugs) Bad boys get girls based on having the money to back up their swag, without that, your just some annoying rowdy guy! Sweet Boys usually make the mistake of actually listening to what a woman wants! (Lol who does that!?!?) By giving her everything she wants they get pretty boring pretty quick as there is no challenge. Sweet Boys are often a little toooo in touch with their emotions; your girl should never see you cry more than she has! All bogey running down your nose, not cute! I used to hate being labelled a Sweet Boy before the person even knows me, when a girl says it I just wanna put her in a headlock! But I’m not a bad man either so I guess that’s how it’s got to be… my advice is to find somewhere in the middle, life is hard so you cant be a pushover, same time there’s no point being angry at the world! All screwfacing every guy on road just live life and be happy mayne! (*note* if you spend more time screwfacing other guys on roads than admiring all these lovely summer dresses then you need help!) Hmm I’m writing this as I’m ill with a bug, I’ve just had a lovely lady bring me a bowl of soup, I wonder if bad boys get this from their boys? Anyways, Mufasa out! WE CAUGHT UP WITH

JAYE LEIGH AS HE STEPS OFF STAGE UKB Magazine caught up with singer/songwriter Jaye Leigh as he stepped off stage at his recent gig at The Roof Gardens in Kensington. “Such an encouraging audience, they made me feel so welcome” he said. “I loved sharing my music with them.” Among those in the celebrity strewn crowd were Ellie Goulding, Gok Wan, Harry Derbidge and Christian Jessing. The reaction from the audience was so strong that extra songs had to be added to the set. The performance marked a departure for thisEssex boy. “This is the first intimate acoustic set since I released The Evaluation” said Jaye, referring to his recently released EP. The Evaluation, a blend of old school RnB vibes with a modern twist, helped to broaden his fan base. The first single from the EP is Cars Go By. “This song is very personal to me, and it stands for strength and pride, even in the worst situations in life.” The song’s moral is to stay strong even when everything seems to be against you; if everyone else is able to move on with life, then so can you, is Jaye’s philosophy. Described as the future of UK RnB, Jaye Leigh is inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson and B.Slade. “I was raised listening to Michael Jackson, I loved his music even before I could talk. I would dance in my car seat whenever my dad played MJ’s music, only to cry when the tape had finished. He inspired me to stay focused on my music and grow as an artist, I am always confident with my unusual creativity.” Jaye explained how B.Slade played a ma jor part in his career. “His music helped me to find the unique texture of my voice, his words of wisdom pushed me to expand vocally as well as lyrically, and I will continue to push for more. I have yet a long way to go to become a vocal god like B.Slade, I believe I will accomplish that.” Jaye is currently planning the video for Cars Go By, with director Urban Shotz and actor Nico Frohlich. The singer will reveal the behind the scenes footage for the video in October and will then be releasing the official video sometime in November. For now Jaye has many performances to showcase around the UK this year and next and hopes to disseminate his music to a bigger fan base. “I plan to make my shows bigger and better each time I perform. I am now working on my first album for 2013, a completely different sound this time. I would say that this album will showcase me more for the artist that I really am.” @JayeLeighOnline

DJ COL J

I have been a host and presenter for the past 3 years. I started off by hosting my 1st unofficial gig at the annual Thurrock Festival in Lakeside, Essex. This was in front of 10000 people over a weekend basis. Here I introduced acts onto the stage in front of thousands, the likes of Stacey Soloman, Chico, Duane Lamonte, plus many more ex-reality TV artists. From here I gained more confidence to present in front of crowds and I started to take on jobs to present more UK talent shows across London. @djcolj

WE

HUSTLE DO YOU?

How did the name Wehustle come about and what does it mean? The name “Wehustle” comes from the name of one of our most successful selling t-shirts in our early stages called “We Hustle in London”. It’s also a daily reminder of what it is we do and it’s keeps us motivated. How did Wehustle start off? We started off with one market stall in Wembley market and then grew it to eight market stalls over the weekends with sixteen people working on the stalls, which then grew us to where we are now which is a very popular online store. How long has Wehustle been manufacturing clothing for? The manufacturing side, we’ve only been doing for the last six months and we’re about to launch another website called Copyrunners.com which will enable up and coming clothing brands to get their clothing manufactured and sold on our site which is currently receiving over 10,000 unique viewers a day. How do you come up with your clothing designs? We have a creative team that come up with our own designs such as our new snapback we’ve just launched on our website in collaboration with Starter/ Mitchell & Ness called “We Hustle In London”. What advice would you give to someone that wants to sell their own clothing? From our experience, the best advice is to have a wide variety of designs, that way you have a better chance of finding that one that might just take off. We see you also have Wehustle.TV which is a massive hit may I add! what’s it all about?

Wehustle.TV is an online handbook for us all. On Wehustle.TV you’ll also find documentaries on people who have made Millions of pounds and how they did it. You’ll also find the latest and exclusive music videos and daily motivation to start your day the right way. The music behind your Nothing to Something interviews on YouTube sound very relaxing was this planned? It’s funny you mention the music for our ‘Nothing To Something’ interviews/ documentaries because when we first released the series we were getting a lot of grief for it as the public didn’t understand why we specifically chose to use the music that we did. I think with the people we were interviewing at the start the public expected us to use up-tempo music, as that’s probably the cliché thing to do. We use slow and very specific music behind our ‘Nothing To Something’ interviews/documentaries to help the viewer to relax and actually listen to what the person in the interview is saying. We like to create an emotion that the viewer may not have felt before from the person being interviewed. Out of the people you’ve interviewed who’s story inspired you the most and why? If I may I’d have to say there’s two interviews that inspired us most, which we’re Ian Wright and Andy Ansah’s. Ian Wright breaks down his life story from being hated by his step father and feeling left out as a child. He explains how his mum never believed in him and his football and used to put him down by continuously saying, “Many are called, few are chosen”. Andy Ansah explains how becoming a professional footballer kept him on the right side of the road when his friends we’re getting up to no good. He also explains that he wanted to get into television and was told he would do better behind the camera than in front of the camera which seemed like a knock back at the time but actually was the best advice he’s ever received and is the reason why he’s so successful today. @wehustle

Unlike a lot of indie labels, ma jor labels don’t like getting unsolicited demos. Such demos open up the label to way too many legal hassles for accepting them to be worthwhile (“hey, I sent my demo d to such and such label and they gave my song to Dizzee Rascal!”). Still, demos are an important part of the new artist equation for many labels. After all, without a demo, how do you know what an artist’s music is really like and how they will sound on record as opposed to a live show? To get around being out of the traditional demo loop, ma jor labels (and some big indies) rely on so-called demo deals. Demo deals are essentially label funded tryouts. A record label will offer you a set budget to go into the studio and record a demo that meets their specifications in terms of number of songs. You record the demo, hand it over to the label, and they check it out and decide if they want to offer you a deal. Make no mistake about it – demo deals aren’t handed out like candy. If a label offers you such a deal, then they are very interested in your music, but there is no guarantee that a “real” record deal will await you at the other end of the demo process. It is also important to note that demo deals have an enforcement time limit. If you record a demo and nothing happens, and ten years later you sign a record deal, that first company usually can’t come back and say, “remember that demo? We’ll take our cash now.” Again, your contract should have a provision that lets you off the hook after a year or so. Are demo deals good? From a label perspective, they are a roll of the dice. You may end up with a great new artist, but you also may end up never recouping your outlay. From a musician perspective, demo deals let you professionally record a demo without spending the cash upfront, but they can also leave you with a big red mark on your label account that will eat up your royalties for quite some time – and believe me, you will have enough of those without a demo deal. The bottom line? Demo deals involve some risk on the part of all parties involved, but sometimes they are quite useful. It all comes down to your circumstances, how enthusiastic the label is and the size of the outlay. Author: Alice Lazar – Show Them Entertainment talent agent. @Shodement

CELEBRITY

GOSSIP PLAN B BEATS MIKE SKINNER TO THE BIG SCREEN A few years back, if you’d laid a bet on a British rapper turning out a film script, the odds would have been on Mike “the Streets” Skinner. With his grasp of dialogue and nuanced take on the vulnerabilities of British geezerdom, Skinner was already writing cinematic vignettes that turned effortlessly into videos. Last year he announced vague plans for “a punchy thriller” set in a hospital. Instead, it’s Ben “Plan B” Drew who has graduated into being a pop star with big-screen credits. His excellent soul suite hit of 2010, The Defamation of Strickland Banks, garnered Drew sufficient clout to finance and direct his debut feature film, Ill Manors.

SIMON COWELL Gets Olympic medallists on Xfactor The gold medal-winning Team GB quartet Mo, Bradley, Chris and Jessica are tipped to appear in one of the live finals, which will be geared around London 2012 and will see each of them assigned one of the categories to mentor through the show, on which Tulisa Contostavlos, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow are judges. Simon has bagged arguably the cream of the crop from Team GB, and he is ecstatic they are going to be involved. ‘Simon believes this will be an absolute triumph and could give him the best ratings the show has ever achieved.’

WILL USAIN BOLT PLAY FOR MANCHESTER? Even before the fastest man in the world completed his assignments at the Olympics he had indicated that he would be interested in playing football for Manchester United should he get an invitation to do so, as well as other sports like American football and Cricket. One is hoping that Bolt, in making these overtures with more than public stridency, is simply titillating the world’s audience by extending his postrace theatrics to one step beyond his ‘To the world’ stance. I say this because he must know, just as I do, that involvement in those sports at that level involves risk of significant irreversible injury that cannot be worth it, should he wish to make Rio 2016 a reality.

KING OF UK SOUL LEMAR IS BACK WITH HIS FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM Despite suffering from writer’s block and an attack of self-doubt, the down-to-earth singer couldn’t be prouder of the end result. Lemar, who’s had seven top 10 hits, and won two BRIT and three MOBO awards, told me: “I wanted to take my time writing great songs rather than release something quickly I thought radio would like. “I did go through writer’s block. Admitting the struggles of maintaining a career he added: “It gets harder every album but I’m releasing my fifth and have achieved something most artists never do.” Lemar’s new single Invincible is out . He revealed a tour is likely to follow in March. UKSBIGGEST.COM | 27
