BOBII LEWIS INTERVIEW Undoubtedly one of UK’s brightest up and comers, Bobii more recently added the Afro Beats genre to his array of music achievements, compounding his unique ability to comfortably switch between genres, a testament to his creativity.

What was it like to be a supporting act for Rick Ross on his 2012 UK Tour? It was a great moment for me because at the time I was just building profile and had barely put any original stuff out. Also received a great response from the crowd so I really enjoyed it. You’ve worked on many different genres of music; do you have a preference or a favourite genre you like to work on? My favourite to work on is RnB, I love hearing amazing harmonies and melodies on perfectly fitting chords, and no one in that room can avoid the goosebumps! In terms of music style who are you often compared to or compare yourself to? I find it difficult fitting my style under one title and therefore it’s hard to compare to someone else, but if we was to say what lane should I be placed in, I would say around the Angel, Trey Songz lane, RnB with an edge. With your Afro beats song Sweet Girl ft Skob how did that link up come about?
Well my manager knew Skob’s people and we linked up, was feeling each others stuff and got to work! Simple as that really! Bobii Lewis | 8

Who in the UK would you most like to collaborate with? I’m a massive fan of Labrinth’s work, so it would have to be him. What can we expect from you next? More songs, videos & shows throughout the year and a lot of hard work! @BobiiLewis

PAIGEY CAKEY INTERVIEW Paigey Cakey is a Hackney born female MC specialising in just about everything. Under the name Paige Meade, she starred in Joe Cornish’s film Attack The Block in 2011 - and that’s just the start of her talents. From the number of YouTube videos on show, Paigey Cakey demonstrates an all rapping, all dancing performance style that’s sharp, witty and full of wordplay. Did we mention she could sing too?

You’ve been working quite a bit with Lady Leshurr, tell us how that first came about? I contacted Lady Leshurr through twitter to work on some music as I’ve always been a fan. We soon linked up and wrote ‘Dam City’, which led to a crazy following. Can we expect a joint mixtape/ album from the both of you? We are currently working on a joint E.P. which we want to release later this year. In fact we have already recorded over 30 songs which we will be releasing throughout the year. If you had to pick between acting and music which one would it be and why?

If I had to pick between acting and music I would choose music. I love expressing myself to others through my lyrics. What is the one thing you cannot live without? I couldn’t live without music. The world would be so boring. What can we expect from you this year? This year I’m going to release a new E.P. in the summer, then drop a few singles and music videos, so keep a look out for me. @Paigey_Cakey

QUICK FIRE 5 Describe your swag with 1 word? Dark. Raving or couch time? Raving. What would you buy if you had £5? (Any items up to the value)? I would buy strawberries and a whole load of sweets. Drum & Bass or House music? Drum & Bass. Eastenders or Corrie? Eastenders. UKSBIGGEST.COM | 9

INNER CHANGES BRING OUTER CHANGES By Remez Sasson

The quality of your life depends to a large extent on the quality of your emotional and mental life. If you are lazy, worry too much and are afraid to try new things, you stick to the same spot. If you are not afraid to change your thinking patterns, your life will soon change accordingly. Your habitual thoughts and the content of your subconscious mind determine your behaviour, and the way you act and react. When you change the way you feel and think about things, and the way you react to people and situations, your actions and behaviour change accordingly. These changes to your inner self create changes in your external, outer life. If you are the worrying type you are probably afraid of change and prefer to stick to the same kind of life that you know well. You see other people improving their life and achieving success, but you do not follow in their footsteps, though you might wish to. If you do nothing, you will always stay where you are. If you do not change your thinking patterns, and cannot visualise your life differently from how its now, you will go on living the same kind of life, day after day. It might never occur to you that you can realise a different, improved reality. In this situation your thinking pattern and your mind-set limits you. If you do not change your thinking patterns, and cannot visualise your life differently from how its now, you will go on living the same kind of life, day after day.

It might never occur to you that you can realise a different, improved reality. In this situation your thinking pattern and your mind-set limits you. You constantly see in your mind’s eye the same day-to-day reality, consequently your conscious and subconscious mind is programmed to see and expect the same reality every day, which creates and attracts the same kind of experiences and activities. Suppose you realise that your outer reality is shaped to a great extent by your inner world. This realisation will make you believe that you can make changes in your life. You will start envisioning the kind of life you want to live. If you kept thinking and visualising a different and better kind of life, oon these thoughts will sink into your subconscious mind, and would motivate, inspire and energise you to take action in this direction.

...More! • New thoughts will bring new expectations and hopes changing the way you view your outer world. • These inner changes to yourself will gradually affect your outer life. • Your behaviour will change accordingly. • You will have more energy, ambition and inner strength. • You will get over your fear of change and be ready to take action to improve your life, in accordance with the changes happening within you. All this requires some inner work and effort, and the use of a few techniques and exercises, like visualization, affirmations, willpower and self discipline and motivation. Remember, inner changes bring outer changes. UKSBIGGEST.COM | 11

DONAEO EXCLUSIVE “There’s a lot I’ve gone through in the past year so you’re about to learn a lot more about me!” Donae’O’ has been pretty busy this year, never one to shy away from work since the beginning of his career… His next drop, as expected, does not disappoint.

What have you been up to and what have you got coming up? My new single ‘Fire’ is out now you can go to Donaeo.com to download it for free, it’s got the original on there, it’s got the afro beats mix by ‘Fuse’ and ‘Mr Silver’, it’s got a ‘Drum ‘n’ Bass’ remix and an acoustic remix that I’m performing on ‘SBTV’, check out the video, out now, it’s doing really well. You wanted to retire from music, what brought this on and what changed your mind? The reason I wanted to retire was firstly I didn’t really feel inspired as a singer to make music. I think the misconception was I wanted to retire from music, I wanted to retire from being an artist, and I didn’t want to go away from producing. Last year I was working with a whole heap of other acts and I was writing and producing for them and I found that more entertaining and enjoyable than having my face out there. DONAEO | 12

I think I’m a house baby; the new surge of house music that’s coming out is making me want to do more things. So to clear things up you are not going to retire? I’m not going to retire, lol, but I do feel I’m getting older and I need to slow things down and take more time with certain things that’s what I’m doing now with ‘Fire’. The next single is going to be ‘I Know’, and I’m going to take my time with it, prob drop a third single after that and put up an album when the hype is there. What do you think about the RnB scene in the UK? I think the RnB scene is growing but it’s still pretty small, I wouldn’t necessarily call it a scene yet, you know, it’s not as big as the rap culture or the community of house or the community of garage or any of the other genres BUT it is growing and with people like ‘Angel’ leading the way I can see in the next year or so, probably, that’s going to get bigger.

What do you think about the RnB scene in the UK? Definitely, I mean I’ll get more into just making soul music on a whole you know, but my heart is in dance music it always has been. When you charted in the Top 20 how did that feel? It was good man, all of that hard work and I finally got Top 20 with ‘Vato Gonzalez’ and ‘Lethal B’ with ‘Not A Saint’, when it went Top 20, bookings went through the roof, I got recognised, more people that weren’t talking to me before are talking to me now, and these are like important people as well. I feel my name is being moved about in different circles. @DONAEO

CHARLIE BROWN EXCLUSIVE Now signed to Universal label All Around the World alongside Dappy and Tulisa, Charlie Brown’s career continues to progress towards the realms that his talent has earned. An already-established face and name within the industry, Charlie Brown is a rapidly escalating artist.

Who’s your musical inspiration? I loved the Motown groups I grew up hearing around the house. I later got in to a lot of 90’s R&B. I taught myself to sing by listening to ‘Stevie Wonder’ and ‘SWV’ records. You are now signed to ‘All Around the World Records’, how did this come about and how did it feel? I got the call from an A&R guy I’ve known for a few years. He wanted me to be his first signing at his new position in ‘Universal’. It felt great to get the chance to put something out of my own after being behind the scenes for so long. What’s your preferred musical style? I’m pretty eclectic and I love a lot of varied artists. My favourite times and genres in music though are 60’s Motown & 90’s R&B! Who would you love to work with and why? I would love to collaborate with ‘Sia’. I think she’s one of the most exciting songwriters of our generation. We hear your album is coming soon, when and what can we expect? The album is scheduled for August. I’ve kept it current in the production, but I’m definitely influenced vocally and lyrically by old skool artists that I grew up listening to. I wanted to combine classic songs with really edgy production. @CharlieBrownLDN

so solid crew EXCLUSIVE The So Solid Crew need no introduction. The entourage have been key contributors to the UK music scene, chosen not by an individual but by in the industry itself. The group are an inspiration and it’s fair to say we want to see a lot more from them. How did it feel for the So Solid team to be performing all together? Mega: It felt nostalgic man! That’s the word everyone is using now, it felt surreal it was a pleasure to have all the guys the whole team at one time How did it feel to hear your London tour date was sold out?

SO SOLID CREW | 16

Mega: I was shocked, I was shocked, I was real surprised but at the same time I did want it to be sold out, like when you are thinking about a brand that hasn’t toured for like 10 years and then it’s a sold out event. It’s something that you expect, but it’s something you are still surprised about. How does it feel to know So Solid Crew are looked at like pioneers in the music scene?

Mega: To be honest it had taken a while for us to even recognise that we did something special, we all feel really honoured and we appreciate all the love and for people calling us pioneers and Icons, it’s a blessing. If you had the opportunity to change the music business, what would it be and why? Mega: I would change the level of what people class as good because I think

today people are rewarding good instead of rewarding excellent, or rewarding amazing and outstanding, so when something average comes along its acceptable. It’s the whole vision of what it takes to do something great, that’s the only thing I’d change about the UK. What advice would you give up and coming artists today? Mega: Stay reaching for the stars, the sky is too close. I tell people to always think outside of this world. We are growing up in the times where unfortunately there’s been music for 100’s and 1000’s of years and whoever is coming

out with music today has a lot of work to do. A lot of achievements have been made, a lot of records have been broken, so for an artist today to be recognised in the music scene you’ve got to come with something that is out of this world. How does it feel to know So Solid Crew are looked at like pioneers in the music scene? Mega: To be honest it had taken a while for us to even recognise that we did something special, we all feel really honoured and we appreciate all the love and for people calling us pioneers and

icons, it’s a blessing. What skills does it take to be a good businessman? Mega: To be a good businessman? Don’t take no for an answer, and you don’t have to be able to see the first step to take that leap of faith, you don’t have to know everything you are doing to go forward in business, just take risks and learn how to be comfortable with the risks.

UKSBIGGEST.COM | 17

You are inspirational to other people, what inspires you and why? Mega: Ummm, seeing people happy man! That’s what inspires me, as long as everyone around me is happy, that’s what makes me happy, that’s what gives me the drive to get up in the morning. If I had to wake up every day and work for myself in this business, I wouldn’t be waking up. Tell us about your clothing line ‘Cheats & Thieves’? Mega: Cheats and Thieves is a great idea with Jeff and Aleek, we came up with designs, sat down at the table, we thought it was a no brainer and its definitely something I want to put my name to and be a part of. Straight away we knocked heads and we got what we have now, CHEATS AND THIEVES is out in River Island. We’ve heard rumours that there is going to be a So Solid App is this true? Mega: Yeh it’s true, lol, it’s going to be for all smart phones and hold a lot of content, you will get news regarding our clothing line, shows... everything to do with So Solid will be there. How did you feel when you got off stage? Harvey: It was emotional, the government can’t stop this, they stopped us performing for 7 years, the fans wanted a show and they got it that’s all I care about, forget me. So Solid till I die.

SO SOLID CREW | 18

When you was on stage all together did it take you back? Romeo: Yeh, it’s been an emotional day and its part of my dream, I can’t even talk right now it’s been that powerful, if I didn’t have these shades on right now you’ll see a tear. We came together and gave it back to you guys the supporters. Ohhh noo, Romeo done, lool. The crowd’s reactions when you performed ‘Cry’ was powerful, how did that feel? Swiss: I felt blessed to perform ‘Cry’ it was a musical journey, it was a London crowd, most of the time I didn’t need to say my lyrics as the crowd was right there with me and knew the words. I’m just pleased to have this experience with London. Can we expect to see you making tracks like ‘Cry’ again? Swiss: You might do, at the moment I’m back in the studio producing, as far as spitting goes I know a lot of people want me to come back on the mic and do a lot of things, at the moment I got other things that are taking up my time but I wouldn’t say no… Just keep your ears close to the streets and keep your eyes

How did it feel being on stage with the Crew Mac: Amazing! The show was crazy, thanks to the fans, thanks to the supporters and everyone that helped make it possible to be here today. Big up Skepta, Chipmunk, Wretch, Ms Dynamite, all the supporting acts that were with us. Is there going to be more music coming from So Solid? Mega: Lol, we’ll see.

open I’m sure you’ll hear something.

“STAY REACHING FOR THE STARS, THE SKY IS TOO CLOSE...”

KREPT AND KONAN EXCLUSIVE The duo Krept and Konan otherwise known as “Play Dirty” have got you feeling “Numb” with their latest single! In your lyrics you use very clever metaphors, what inspires you? Krept: A lot of things that just happen around me, in general you’ll see something happen and then you just think you can make a line out of it or because we been doing this for so long my mind automatically thinks of clever lines. In general I would think of punch lines from everything I look at, it just happens naturally throughout the year. Konan: Yeh, it’s just natural, it flows, walking down the road and you see something you can use and turn into a line and now we rap, we can just turn it into a lyric. We heard that ‘Popek’, the MMA fighter who cameos in your video for ‘NUMB’, is also a rapper. Would we ever see a Krept and Konan video ft POPEK MONSTER and if so what would it be called? Both: Lool, yeh, if we did it would be called slaughter house because he is just a madman, init! Lool, he does UFC like his whole appearance and greazyness, the video would have to be crazy. What embarrassing moments have you had while performing? Krept: We was on tour with Skepta performing and then the disk

started jumping in the middle of our performance, lool, but we styled it out as it was around the same time BBM messenger crashed, so we just dropped it like, ‘everything is crashing today’. By the time I was doing that they changed the CD, LOOL.. Konan: The other day when we came out on Skepta’s blacklisted tour, I was doing my thing and my lyrics just completely left my mind, Skepta was spitting it in my ear, lol. It’s happened a few times to be fair, but I got Krept there to bring it back and fill the blanks What can we expect from you the rest of this year? Both: We got an E.P. coming out called ‘Quick Ting’ check out our single ‘Numb’ Popek, in video as well, lol. We have another song with Kurt Collins coming out BIG visuals, just making sure it sounds and looks better than last year. What UK and US artists are you listening to at the min? Krept: Umm, right now Drake, English, I would say... Skepta, Giggs. Konan: US, Drake Kanye... UK, 100% been listening to Skepta’s mixtape, Blacklisted and Chip’s London Boy, that’s what’s really on my phone right now.

rant of the month Hair weaves are considered the Holy Grail in ghetto society. If hair weaves were to become extinct, everyone in the ghetto would combust into flames. Jokes aside, hair weaves are not exclusively used by Black women. Now celebrities and plenty women of other races, especially white women, are sporting hair weaves/extensions these days. Just travel across the UK you will see that half the women out there have hair they purchased from the Beauty & Hair stores. Sometimes i can even identify the make, the length and colour of some others chicks head like I’m the terminator. Ghetto folks tend to get a little flamboyant with their weave styles. For example if your weave has helicopter propellers, glitter, or three different styles on one hairdo, the female in question needs to just start over or shoot herself in the head like hello – we are NOT on the Maury show looking for our kids baby daddy. Another issue is multiple textures. Ladies, do not sport Korean Silky hair and have Kunta Kinte edges. Nappy hair and silky weave do not go together, yet many ghetto chicks cannot seem to match the texture of their own hair and the weave. Last but not least, invest in quality hair. Do not pay 5 pound for some plastic garbage and not expect folks to question your judgment! girlfriends please – not a good look. It breaks my heart when I see a woman sporting tightly coiled plastic weave and act like it is their own hair. No one will believe you are mixed with Indian with weave that looks like it should be used for cable wiring, seriously you need to get down to church if this is you - tell the truth and shame the devil. FYI im European, size 14 & 18 and colour 1B – Hello. Girlfriends. Twitter / @aliaadam87

BOTTOM LINE

Bottomline is a band formed in early 2012 from Novo Mesto in Slovenia. The five members have absolutely nothing in common except for their love of making music and some were in different bands before they made Bottomline. Their lyrics are very sentimental and at times intimate, some being from personal experience and others just storytelling. They have recently brought out their first album ‘Solitude’, which is a representation of their first 6 months journey as a band. They feel the 5 songs they selected for it are a good reflection of their experiences. SCRUFIZZER INTERVIEW In comparison to other areas of London, the West hasn’t exactly been the number one hot spot for talent. But if there was one MC out there at the moment who’s on course to buck that trend, then look no further than Scru Face, a.k.a Scru Fizzer.

It was good seeing you do your thing at the Harris Academy school, how did it go? Yeh man it was good just kept the fizzy flow rolling, I was hear performing with flirta D so yeah it was a good show I enjoyed it hope the crowd did aswell, I just try to get it popping. What would you say distinguishes artists from musicians? Umm I wouldn’t say there is a difference to be honest it just depends what bracket you put yourself in and how you see yourself, for me I see myself as an artist and a musician as I create music for the times not just the masses. What would you say is you biggest challenge to get to the level that you are at now in the music scene? Umm its hard work and determination having belief and never losing faith, in this industry its so easy to lose faith. Some people don’t realise the initial work you need to put in to achieve. SCRUFIZZER | 24

What embarrassing moments have you had while performing? Loool The answer to that question is no not at the moment but maybe in the near future ill might be able to answer that question. What have you got coming up? I got the Fizzy Flow EP, and ill just be dropping videos so look out for me. Directly after the interview at Harris Academy we was cleverly preyed upon and ambushed by Scrufizzers fans. We was dragged to safety by security, and I became detached from the group I looked into the distance to see Scrufizzer protected by management and Security! My self and the camera @olivergoldfilm had to battle our way out, it was like a scene from Mortal Kombat and Rambo lool. Bigup Scrufizzer and look out for his filmed interview on UKBtv soon. @SCRUFIZZER
