We pride ourselves on quality and craftsmanship and keeping those values alive. Our enamels are manufactured by highly-skilled craftsmen and women at our own state-of-the-art factory in the Midlands the traditional centre of enamelling on copper. The creation of a single piece involves a dedicated team with several years’ experience. Each copper component is painstakingly coated and fired five times to ensure a hard, glossy, flawless finish. Only then is the design transferred and fired into the enamel ready for our talented artists to paint the miniature works of art that have made us famous. The art of turning raw copper into a thing of beauty and a joy for ever...

Antique Enamels 18th-century English enamels have been a speciality at Halcyon Days since Susan Benjamin founded the company in 1950. The small, decorative boxes produced in Battersea, London, and the Midlands, which had so captivated Georgian society, inspired her to revive the craft in 1970.
A Tribute to Susan Benjamin It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Susan Benjamin, the founder of Halcyon Days. This dynamic and uniquely talented woman brought a profound aesthetic sensibility to the creation of miniature masterpieces and beautiful keepsakes that have been cherished throughout the world. It was her passion for 18th-century enamels which led to the revival of this classic English craft. She personally oversaw its development for more than three decades into what is now a significant 21st-century industry. Susan was fascinated by the beautiful and rare antique enamel boxes which had been produced for only a short period – from the 1750s to about 1830. It was her extraordinary vision that inspired the revival of the craft in 1970 – achieved by the unique co-operation of her company and a factory in the Midlands, the historic heart of the enamelling industry. The enamels were, and continue to be, designed by talented artists and calligraphers in the studio above the Brook Street shop and then made by craftsmen and women using traditional English enamelling skills. Over the years, with her expert eye, Susan directed thousands of designs, both traditional and contemporary, and established a long and continuing partnership with leading international museums, art galleries and artists. Her legacy continues to this day.
Apollo and Daphne are depicted on the Battersea lid of this rare antique box after an engraving by Simon François Ravenet, Battersea’s most famous engraver. Cupid appears inside the lid, which is fitted to a Birmingham base decorated with sprays of flowers. Circa 1755. E5992, £2,700
I was privileged to have known her during the years since I acquired Halcyon Days. Her enthusiasm for this unique craft was infectious as she guided me through its many complex stages. I can only hope that Halcyon Days lives on for years to come as a testament to the vision of one lady who did so much for this beautiful and unique craft. She was an inspiration to us all and will be remembered with much affection.
