Make journalism part of your studies at NSCAD Minor in Journalism Studies Are you a NSCAD student looking for a minor that’s interesting and current? Do you like to write? Do you want to become a more effective communicator and a more savvy media consumer? Consider the Minor in Journalism Studies at the University of King’s College. The minor will complement your studies, helping you hone your critical thinking skills, delve into the “why” of issues, and enhance your ability to present material clearly and concisely.

Just choose an elective or two No matter what your academic programme, you can choose one or more journalism electives. Electives are also open to members of the community. Insights and skills gained through these courses–including the ability to question thoughtfully, write well and look at the media with a critical eye–can be applied to whatever path you take.

The learning environment Classes are led by professional journalists who bring a wealth of experience to the classroom. Most classes are limited to about 20 students, which allows for personal attention and promotes lively discussions.

Instructions for registration in the Minor of Journalism Studies at King’s For NSCAD students registering as Visiting Students: Please submit the following: • A completed application for admission (use form for BA, BSC and BJH) as a Visiting Student Journalism. Forms may be accessed on line at http://www.ukings.ca/how-apply; • Letter of permission issued by the Registrar’s Office of your home university. The letter of permission will list the classes you wish to take at King’s. Please check the online Academic Timetable for calendar descriptions and course scheduling information by following the links from the King’s home page www.ukings.ca to Dal Online; • Visiting NSCAD students are NOT required to pay an application fee; • Following admission as a Visiting Student at King’s, you may register for classes via Dal Online. Please check the Academic Dates for deadlines by which course registration fees are due; • At the end of each academic session, please request that the King’s Registrar provide transcripts to your home university; • We recommend NSCAD students enter the Minor in Journalism Studies no later than second year. • Before you can register you need to activate your university email account. This account is on the Dalhousie server and carries the dal.ca domain name. You are responsible for activating it and checking it regularly, as it is our main form of official university communication. To Setup Your Email: Go to www.my.ukings.ca. Click on New Users. Click on the first option: Activate or look up my NetID Select the second button: No I do not know my NetID Type in your Student ID (B00?) Enter your birthdate in the specified format, then click on Look up NetID. You will be prompted to set an initial password. Make a note of your NetID, your email address and your password. Click on Main. Type your NetID in Username. Enter your new password. To Register: Go to www.ukings.ca. Click on Dal Online (in the upper right-hand corner). Select Login. Enter your NetID and password (the same ones used to log into your email). Return to the online registration page, which can be accessed in the future using the Dal Online link on www.ukings.ca. Log in using your Student ID (B00?) and PIN. Select Web for Students, and then select Academic Timetable to view the classes available to you. The subjects are listed in alphabetical order. Choose the appropriate subject to view classes. Ensure that you are looking at classes for the Fall and Winter. Make a note of the Class Reference Number (CRN) for each class and tutorial you select, paying attention to which term each class is held in. In the Main Menu, choose the term that you wish to register for (start with Fall). Return to the Main Menu and select Add/Drop Classes. Enter the CRNs you have selected. Click on Submit.
