Unit 4 Guided

Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care Your set task Unit 4 will be assessed through a task, which will be set by Pearson. You will need to use your understanding of research methodologies and associated issues related to a piece of current research on a health or social care issue, along with your own skills in carrying out secondary research around the issue. You then answer questions based on the research.

Your revision workbook This workbook is designed to revise the skills that might be needed in your assessed task. The details of your actual assessed task may change from year to year so always make sure you are up to date. Ask your tutor or check the Pearson website for the most up-to-date Sample Assessment Material to get an idea of the structure of your assessed task and what this requires of you. To support your revision, this workbook contains revision tasks to help you revise the skills that might be needed in your assessed task. The revision task is divided into sections. 1 Research In your workbook you will use your skills to: • read and make notes on a provided research article covering an aspect of recent research (pages 98–104) • carry out your own independent secondary research using at least two secondary sources related to the issue in the research article and make notes (pages 105–117) • prepare a list of your secondary sources (page 118) 2 Questions Your response to the questions will help you to revise: • understanding of research methods and the validity and reliability of results in research (page 119) • understanding of the relationship between your own secondary research and a provided article, and how this relationship reinforces the importance of the issue (page 121) • planning and ethical considerations for further research (page 123) • research implications for future provision and/or practice (page 125)
