Bachelor of Science in Landscape architecture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna
2006 - 2011
HTL (tranlatable to Higher Technical Institute) with the focus architectural design and technical architectural drawings
Since I was young I had a strong interest in buildings and constructions as well as their relation with the surroundings. But it was not until I was confronted with Mies van der Rohe where i learned the importance of the translucency of builndings to bind them stronger with nature. Through that it is always my aim to create a design that includes both the building as well as the landscape around it to create a coherent structural unity.

RE-ROUTING INDUSTRIAL HISTORY
The design in the Moseløkken quarry allows a fluctuation of the water level in the quarry to make space for different kinds of activities. It also creates a connection between the inland and coast, adding to a development strategy for the island of Bornholm.

RE-ROUTING INDUSTRIAL HISTORY
2015
SUPERVISOR: ANNE TIETJEN GROUPWORK
SWEDEN
There is a growing potential in developing underused and abandoned industrial sites as industrial heritage tourism continues to increase as a worldwide trend.
DENMARK
This project seeks to engage with the hidden quarries located in the inland of Bornholm in order to highlight the unique and historic industrial culture of the past and reactivate them for new recreational purposes. The existing “Land of Opportunities” project has already begun this process with developments in Vang quarry and Hammerhavn along the northwestern coast, but there is still untapped potential in the region to develop a larger network. The three inland quarries, Moseløkken, Boreløkken and Dalegård, have huge potential to be connected and used as the missing link to the already existing granite industry attractions. By reactivating these quarries, new connections will be created that will strengthen the industrial heritage story and the relationship between the east-west coast.
GERMANY
In the existing redeveloped quarries a range of new activities are taking place – from communicating industrial history, rock climbing, to bird watching and music concerts in spectacular surroundings. These activities attract a variety of different user groups to the quarries.

New programs and activities have already started within Moseløkken, which is now an attractive location for Danish and German climbers. Furthermore, geographically positioned between the Folkemødet (a political festival) in Allinge in the east and the Wonderfestiwall music festival and Hammershus to the west, Moseløkken has the potential to be a significant resource and connecting node. While these activities highlight the attractiveness that the landscape possesses, there is still a need to provide designed spaces that are more accessible and physically connected to these other already popular locations in North Bornholm in order to bring these sites to their full potential as destinations.

The design concept is based on the fluctuation of the water level in the quarry. By puming the water out or letting it in via a waterfall as a design feature, the water level in the quarry can be regulated to meet the needs of different uses, like swimming, climbing or the quarry can be emptied out to make space for big events.

TÅRNBY
The approach for this project was to analyze and explore a space with the help of film. It should not only be a tool to get to know and understand the place better but also incorporate the design idea into the film, making the intervention clearer. The area worked with is a park on top of train station of the line connecting Denmark with Sweden, also there is a busy highway going underneath the park as well, which leads to airport and again Sweden. With the help of film movement was captured, but more important for this project was the sound captured in the recordings and how it develops during the course of the day. The park is not very well in use and it serves more as a space where people pass through or get on and off the trains or buses, just like the infrastructure the park does not invite to stay even for a short period of of time. Even though there are quite a few residential housing structures close by, they themselves have an adequate amount of green space around them so there is no necessity to go to the station park. So the aim here was to attract people to stay in the place and activate it through that, maybe even make it interesting for people to come to unusual hours as specific events happen at a specific time and with the theme of sound something of a temporal nature is investigated in and used. So that even though there are enough green areas close by this one becomes interesting due to its features.

RECORDING DIAGRAM
A sound analysis was made by setting up recording points in a grid of 20x20 meters to find out what different kinds of sound occur in the project area. Based on that, registrations where made how strong the various sound sources are and when during the day they occur.

SOUND ANALYSIS
The analysis showed that the sounds spread like fog over the area gets more intense in some places and is just barely there in others, with the car noise drowning others after the sunrise until sunset as the traffic peaks during that time.
DESIGN CONCEPT

The design resulted from the smoke patterns that were derived from the sound analysis, as the sound behaved like fog, spreading over the area fluctuating in strength over the course of the sunrise/sunset, some sound sources got stronger while others weakened.

Hills and pans allow the fog to cascade or collect and speakers play sounds that are foreign to the space to bring in a new element but also cancel out out others. Furniture is placed among those elements to create interesting spaces, like swings in the fog or slopes with cascading fog. The fog machines as well as the speakers will be powered by solar panels covering some hills to ensure an energy balance. The tree circles which area ‘Populus alba’ and ‘Populus tremula’ bring in another layer of white smooth shapes, they are planted in circles that have a metal border, so that the shape gets denser over time, creating a circular white cloud like element.

CONNECTING GREEN STRUCTURES
2016
SUPERVISOR: ANNE MADSBJERG GROUPWORK
The green perspective on the former industrial area of Gladsaxe Ringby is derived from its position in the Fingerplan with a focus on the green structures proposed in it. These green zones are located between the fingers and provide the region with both recreational and ecological benefits. However, where Gladsaxe Ringby is located, this green connection is particularly weak compared to the others.
GLADSAXE COPENHAGEN
FINGERPLAN
The aim of this strategy is to strengthen this link by incorporating connecting green structures and thereby reinforce the intentions of the Fingerplan. Gladsaxe Ringby can thus act as a green link between Gyngemosen and Utterslev Mose in the south, and Hjortespringskilen located northwest of the area. While this improves the ecological connectivity on a larger scale, the focus in Gladsaxe Ringby is primarily set on accessibility and recreational green structures. By implementing this strategy, the former industrial site will be transformed into a more vibrant, dynamic and connected area with high quality green spaces. This will provide various benefits to the users. While connecting green spaces on a larger scale, the green corridor is the main element in the new strategy. It provides a new identity to the area and functions as a binding element. Along the corridor a range of different types of landscapes can be experienced, while passing through the green structures. These various landscape types differ in function, program and activities in relation to their specific context.

Different characters are incorporated in the green corridor. These will offer diverse experiences for residents and employees working in Gladsaxe, as well as for people passing by. The characters and functions of the landscape are generally determined by their context in terms of surrounding structures and topography. In this way it can be ensured that the proposed landscape type suits the location on site. Additionally, the different sizes and types of landscapes, will promote a variety of habitats for species and therefore increase the ecological value of the area in a regional perspective.

MAN-MADE AND SELF-ORGANIZED
2016
SUPERVISOR: ANNE TIETJEN THESIS
The idea for this thesis is to work with the approach of urban nature or man-made nature that is self-organized as a concept of urban design. With the aim to connect the city better with surrounding natural areas, by creating green finger like structures and eventually intervening the ‘natural’ areas into the urban fabric. COPENHAGEN
ØRESTAD
NATURE PARK
Municipalities and city councils are starting to integrate strategies to enrich already existing green spaces and to define criteria for new ones, to make them appear more natural and diverse. This should not only help with aesthetic and biodiversity aspects but also with the idea of creating more green and live able cities in the future. Since the cities still grow not only in size, but also in population density as many people move to the cities, which will also be a problem the housing market has to deal with. Drawing from a strategic proposal and the concept of combining the built with the grown, the idea of improving those existing spaces in the city and the attempt to connect the urban with the more natural structures will be the aims of this thesis. Ørestad is a big development area south of the city center of Copenhagen right next to a big nature park is a good location to try out to connect this idea with a real project. As it is a big urban development which will house thousands of Copenhageners there will be a lot of pressure on the green spaces, so it would make sense to try to strengthen the connection between Ørestad and the nature park to have an evenly distributed use over the entire area. The process of this thesis will be to find and define already existing green spaces in Ørestad and analyse their potential of improvement in the context of the urban nature or man-made selforganized nature concept to not only improve the green spaces but also enable the potential of a better connection to the nature park. It should allow the people living in the area to have a better access and connection to the area, enhancing the reach of their recreational spaces by bringing the ‘nature’ all the way to their doorsteps. This should not just work as an immediate fix of the city’s problems, but as the city grows and develops, so will the greens paces, transforming the spatial construct into a new kind of artificial organism.

STRUCTURES DIAGRAM
Creating an interlinking green and blue network with the blue being the connection form north to south through the project area and the green structure as the green and park spaces in the project area connecting Ă˜restad with the nature park in a horizontal direction. The green will also connect to the blue to create a fabric of green and blue serving different functions. Finding intervention sites in the project area that border the nature park which stands in a very strong contrast to it in terms of organization and maintenance. The relation of the built and grown will be investigated in each area and a design or planting solution has to be found for each spot to mirror the connectivity and interlacing idea in a smaller scale Introduction of habitats found in the nature park into the green spaces in Ă˜restad to artificially stretch out the nature park into the development and also copying elements found in the landscape that could be brought in, to make the natural aspect even more realistic like topography. Introduction of native trees and other plants in a more maintained way to draw the relation to the built up areas and their highly designed planting schemes
CONNECTION DIAGRAM
15
One of the central ideas of this thesis was the planting concept. All greenspaces within the area were sorted under various cathegories and checked if they fullfill the following criteria. The greenspaces must border the nature park and they have to be organized in the sence of being highly maintainted so that they stand in a clear contrast to the wilder appearing nature park. Inspired by the plant communities on the other side of the ‘border’ plants will be implemented into the parks in Ă˜restad to create a better connection and a gradient. Also the spacial features of the natural parts will be translated into a smaller scall to fit the sites. On the other hand designed elements will be introduced into the nature park binding the two parts stronger together creating a link between the green spaces.
