Sell and Shop Luxury with Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s are delighted to announce that their prints specialist, Jennifer Strotz, will be visiting Belfast on Tuesday 31st January and would be delighted to provide up to date values and advice on any relevant items within your collection.

With expertise in prints by Old Master, Modern, and Contemporary artists, Sotheby’s Prints Department offers a wide range of graphic works for both first-time buyers and established collectors. Their current auction, Old Master Prints, opens for bidding on December 2nd and surveys four centuries of European printmaking with fine prints by Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn and Francisco de Goya, among many others. With low estimates ranging from £300 to £150,000, this sale includes a masterwork for every budget. The same can be said for Sotheby’s March and September Prints & Multiples auctions, which boast exceptional examples of Modern, Contemporary, and Pop printmaking by world-renowned artists from Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse to Andy Warhol and Lucian Freud.

The current strength of the prints market has long been apparent at Sotheby’s London, where world record prices have been set for iconic subjects such as Banksy’s Girl with Balloon (£1,1,04,000 for Girl with Balloon – Colour AP (Gold) in March 2021) and Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth (£554,400 for Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (F. & S. II.337A) in September 2022). This year alone the Prints & Multiples sales achieved an outstanding £5.2 million against an estimate of £2.5 million. Attracting bidders worldwide, 36% of buyers were new to Sotheby’s, demonstrating their unrivalled reach. 88% of lots offered sold, achieving 205% of the pre-sale estimate, while 66% of the lots achieved prices above their high estimate.
