P H 2 0 LU X U R Y TA N N I N G With previous experience in her former own hair and beauty salon, mum of four Sinead O’Donnell put her time in lockdown to very good use setting up her very own line of tanning products. After the passing of her father Patrick Hughes in 2020, Sinead decided to dedicate her new project in memory of him and so by taking his initials, PH20 was born. PH20 is: • Alcohol free • Paraben free • Cruelty free • 100% eco-cert DHA • Nourishing and Moisturising, leaving wash off even and scale free • baby powder scented • No Transfer to bedsheets or clothing • Suitable for the face • Never tested on animals • Eco and vegan friendly

WHAT’S INSIDE PH20? ALOE BARBADENSIS Aloe barbadenis leaf juice can soothe skin and serve as an anti-inflammatory as well as containing moisturising agents and also has antimicrobial properties against many common bacteria and fungi. This plant contains an impressive number of vitamins which are great for protecting the skin from free radicals, dangerous compounds that cause signs of premature aging due to damaging effects on the DNA and other cell structures. The herb also contains

enzymes, which are the life-principle in every live, these organic molecules rejuvenate aged tissues and promote healthy skin. COCONUT OILS Cocamidopropyl betaine is an organic compound derived from coconut oil that you can find in many of your “natural” or “organic” skincare and hair care products. CAPB is created by mixing raw coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine. Other ingredients such as Glycerin can help to improve moisture in the skin. CITRIC ACID Citric acid has protective antioxidant and corrective antiaging effects helping to reverse visible signs of photodamage. Citric acid works by exfoliating the upper layer of dead skin cells to help clean pores, even skin tone, and soften and smooth the skin. It also targets the skins hydrating support matrix to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Most recently, citric acid has also been found to be important in healthy skin barrier function by maintaining the optimum level of PH in areas of the skin which are essential for normal skin barrier function.

Products include: • Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark Mousse • Gradual/Accelerator • Prep and Prime Remover • Kabuki Brush. • Velvet Mitt Sinead is also developing more products which will be released later in the year. She was nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year as well as speaking on the Small Business panel at the Digg podcast.

Fine Art

Audrey Smyth is the creator of the bespoke Ulster Tatler Influential Women of the Year award pieces.

The Horseshoe Gallery is located in Saintfield, a quirky little gallery housed in a listed building at the top of the town. Already steeped in history, husband and wife team Michael and Audrey Smyth are making history of their own, bringing their contemporary works of art to the quintessential little village of Saintfield. Michael Smyth is a painter/sculptor and Audrey Smyth is a sculptress, both cover a variety of subject matter from local flora and fauna, drawing on inspiration from the surrounding countryside, to quaint pieces as seen in Audrey’s collection of swimmers. The Horseshoe Gallery is the home of Michael and Audrey’s works which cover a wide variety of oil paintings, ceramic sculptures, watercolours, drawings and mixed media works. Their love and appreciation of local art extends beyond their own talents. When Michael and Audrey opened The Horseshoe Gallery they reached out to a select number of local artists, providing a space and platform for artists to sell their work. These beautiful hand-crafted pieces from other artists complement the gallery through elegant jewellery prints and a variety of stunning textiles. This all lends to the unique experience of The Horseshoe Gallery. It’s important to Michael and

Audrey Smyth

Audrey that purchasing a piece of art is an experience as each piece becomes personal with meaning and memories attached to the art for its new owner. Audrey as an artist wears many hats, exploring new life adventures and new experiences that all reflect in her art work. Audrey’s lust for life is the foundation for Audrey’s work when she comes to create. Not content with running a busy gallery and creating works of art she has a daily yoga and meditation practice, swims daily, cycles and loves all forms of exercise. Her mantra being; keeping active keeps the spirit vital and up lifted. This upbeat outlook all adds to the energy and spontaneity that is reflected in her work. Audrey began her artistic career as a mature student by studying at Castlereagh College. A foundation year under the auspicious eye of tutor Ray Duncan. She then gained her B.A.Hon in ceramics at the University of Ulster and following this a Masters in Fine Art. All the while undertaking many years training in bronze casting at the Foundry at Belfast Met. She has achieved many highlights in her career but stand out moments for Audrey include being recognised by her peers of the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts, the largest and longest established body of practising visual artists in Northern Ireland. Over the years she has received many selections for their prestigious annual exhibition, which lead to her work winning the Connor Prize and being a bronze medal winner. Her works have been purchased and held globally in many prestigious collections such as the Museum of Modern Art Dublin, the UTV Collection, the Ulster Bank collection, the Ombudsman Office and even Bono has favoured Audrey’s work purchasing pieces for his personal collection. When Audrey isn’t in the gallery or the gym, she works from her home studio in Raholp, a picturesque village towards Strangford. Not the kind of place you’d expect to find an internationally 108

acclaimed artist! The Horseshoe Gallery opens two days a week; Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. This allows Michael and Audrey to spend their time creating and curating new pieces for the gallery. You can also find their work on the gallery’s Facebook which has cultivated a large following from all over the world, with pieces regularly shipping to America, France and beyond. Audrey relishes the personal interaction that Facebook allows. Here she is able to chat to people online and build personal relationships which again are so important to Michael and Audrey in their gallery. Many clients that purchase works online are basing the purchase solely on photos or video from Facebook which is a testament to the quality and desirability of the work they produce. Many clients now hold small collections of Smyth art works themselves as they often see customers come back again and again. Audrey says “I am always in love with my latest piece, having taken weeks or months to explore and develop my initial vision into a reality. The delight when it is shared with the person who purchases it and the joy it will bring that person. I share my story, my vision and it lives within the piece forever. For me, this is the greatest gift to share. The

passion and love that art evokes within us, that’s why a lot of purchases of work are spontaneous; it’s the unexpected emotion that the viewer experiences. Art is so powerful that once this happens, this piece of art work will stay in your psyche forever. Art creates an emotion within us and that’s a gift you can’t put a price on!” To see more art pieces from the gallery, vist our facebook page: The Horseshoe Gallery.
