RACE GUIDE 2019
TRAIL IS YOUR WAY Greetings everyone on behalf of the whole Crew! Make sure you read the Race Guide carefully, because it contains tons of useful and essential pieces of information. There’s an important change in the history of the race: it has received the Ultra Trail World Tour Discovery Race label. The start, however, has not changed, trail runners from around the globe will start from Szentendre and Visegrád. As you dash through the woods, where once merchants rode their carts, kings hunted game and monks gathered for prayer, take a second to feel and respect the past. Unfortunately, there are only ruins of the late Pauline monasteries, but Visegrád castle still stands tall above the Danube, reminiscent of the past. Before and after the race, it’s worth discovering the cultural and historical heritage of Szentendre and Visegrád. You’ll find tips in the Guide. Besides the adult races, we’re organizing Salomon Kids Trail Szentendre again, so if you have kids defnitely bring them to Postás strand (beach) in Szentendre and we’ll give them a real trail-running experience. Have a successful race! Csanya

RACE IN THE RACE - HAMMER ON! For the participants of the Salomon Visegrád Trail. The fastest male and female runners of this particular section who also complete the entire race will win a box of Hammer Recoverite.
BUS - START Buses to Visegrád leave from the bus stop next to the Race Center between 08:30 and 08:45. To get on the bus, you will have to show your race BIB. Buses will arrive at the Hajóállomás (Boat station) stop in Visegrád at around 09:30. From there, you will walk together to the Salamon Tower. Attention, there is a nice view, take pictures but DONT climb to the wall! In the courtyard of the Salamon Tower, there are restrooms where you can also fill up your water supply.
SAFETY FIRST As organizers of the event, we are responsible for you. We are doing our best, but there are things you need to take responsibility for. What we do for your safety: • At road crossings, volunteers and police will assist runners to safely cross the road. • Staff at aid stations will be of help in everything. Don’t hesitate to ask for help whatever issues you might have. • The race is in June, but the late spring weather might surprise us. We have experienced temperatures as low as 5 degrees C and as high as 30 degrees in the past, so never underestimate the mountain! • Along the route at night, reflective tapes will help your way. • During the race an ambulance and an emergency tent at the finish area will provide care if needed. Even the best runners aren’t immune to accidents. Night running, difficult terrain and the long distance make accidents more likely to happen. We cannot emphasize enough, that Salomon Ultra-Trail® Hungary is not just an ordinary race! To reduce the risk of accidents, please bear in mind: • The Pilis is not like the city, you cannot just hop on the subway if you have run out of energy....if you feel exhausted, don’t hesitate to take a rest at the next aid station. After a few minute rest and something to eat you can continue more safely. • Always choose your outfit considering the weather. Change clothes before you get too cold/hot. • In case you realize you haven’t seen marking tapes for several hundred meters, you have probably wandered off path. Turn around and go back to the last route mark. • Never leave the marked trails! • Always carry the required gear. • If you have trekking poles, be careful while using them, especially during the first part of the race when the field is packed. • Don’t forget, every runner is responsible for providing help to those in need. What to do if you get into trouble: Do not hesitate to contact us if you’re in trouble, call the official phone number of the race +36-30-9088-718 (printed on the bib). Then do follow the received instructions. If you are able to walk, proceed to the agreed place and we will pick you up there. In case you’re injured and cannot walk, put on all your clothes and wait there; we will get to you as soon as possible.
FOR SUPPORTERS INFORMATION FOR CREW MEMBERS AND TOURISTS: • You cannot reach the aid stations in Dömös and Pap-rét by car. Be prepared for a 30-minute walk if you want to get to any of these stations to cheer for someone. • Crewing (giving refreshments, etc.) is only allowed at the official aid stations. • When you park your vehicle make sure you don’t disturb locals or runners. • Please do not leave your trash at the aid stations. • Please follow trail rules: do not litter, do not light a fire and do not leave the marked trails. The Salomon UTH® Google map is ready. The map indicates the locations of the Aid stations, Race Center, the FNSHR restaurant, the Baggage storage facility, Start/Finish, as well as the bus stop where the bus transfer to the Start of the Salomon Visegrád Trail departs from. You can find information about the opening hours and the services of the aid stations by clicking on their pictogram (cup, spoon&fork). If you want to create a route plan, then click on the aid station’s mark and then select the crossroad pictogram.
YOU CAN REACH THE MAP HERE
INFORMATION FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN CULTURE AND SIGHTS: • On pages 24-25 we offer an introduction to places of interest in Visegrád and Szentendre, but both cities are worth exploring just by wandering about. • More information on sights is available in Szentendre at the Tourinform office (Dumtsa Jenő st. 22.), in Visegrád at the Tourist center in „Palotaház” (at the bus stop by the Royal Palace) or at the Info point in the Race center.

MUST SEE AT SZENTENDRE Szentendre is also known as the city of arts. Its downtown attracts visitors with a lot of sights and a special atmosphere. Explore the cobblestone streets, nice alleys and wonderful museums, have a look at the town from the temple hill! Our favourites is the pedestrian-only main street named after the first mayor of Szentendre, Jenő Dumtsa,
the Marzipan Museum (Dumtsa Jenő u. 12-14.)
and the unforgettable Margit Kovács Ceramic Collection (Vastagh György u. 1.)
MUST SEE AT VISEGRÁD Visegrád offers a great number of sights, and not only famous buildings. Take a walk on its friendly streets, and take photos of the always beautiful Dunakanyar. Check out the Royal Palace and the Mátyás Király Museum. Visit and try the bobsled track. Our personal favorites are: historic playground, (Fő u. 4-6.) the Citadel
and the Solomon Tower, of course.
EXPO At the Hammer Nutrition stand you can buy a race pack directly prepared for the 100K distance and you can select from a range of gels and bars, as well. Runnabe is waiting for you with its newest hats, shirts and accessories. At the Erdinger tent you can taste the best wheat beer of the world. “Sarkcsillag” Store is waiting for you with its full selection of Salomon and Compressport products. If design and quality are important for you get to know the Rudy Project sunglasses. Of our partnering races you will be able to check out the stand of Ultra Trail Vipava Valley this year.
