BA (Hons) Creative Industries
Are you a creative thinker with a business mind? Do you enjoy designing or making things? Perhaps you are in a band or take part in local theatre productions. Or do you write a blog, enjoy photography or make your own clothes? If you would like to explore your creativity as well as developing the skills to make things happen in the real world, this could be the course for you. What are the ‘creative industries’?
Who is the programme for?
The creative industries encompass every part of modern culture and entertainment – from advertising, design, the internet, film and TV to fashion, music, art and performance. The ‘creative economy’ is a vital and growing part of today’s servicedriven world, offering many different career paths for talented individuals.
This is a programme for the open-minded, inquisitive thinker and doer. It is for keen, imaginative, practical characters who like to take the initiative and make things happen. You will be a team player, keen to research new areas with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Those who succeed combine creativity with the business skills to turn ideas into profitable products and ventures. What does this degree offer? The BA (Hons) Creative Industries will give you the broad training to work at any level in the creative industries, across both creative and decision-making management roles. You will explore your own personal creativity, find out more about your own particular talents and interests, and develop as an independent thinker. Crucially, you will learn how to manage the business side of any creative venture, looking at how to develop creative products and bring them to market. You will also gain technical production skills that can be applied across the creative industries sector. You will learn about the mechanics and practices of video filming, digital sound recording, and using audio, video and picture-editing software. The programme includes an industry placement in the second year, enabling you to gain firsthand experience in an area of your choice.
BA (Hons) Creative Industries Three years, full time Start date: September
It will give you the business skills you need to succeed, whether you are marketing your own creative work, or managing the work of others.
What skills will I gain? Whether you want to start your own creative venture, or manage creative projects for an employer, this degree will prepare you with the skills for success in many different spheres. You will see how creative applications can really work in business. You will learn about managing creative projects, groups and individuals and how to communicate effectively in different situations. We aim to produce individuals who are adaptable and original in their outlook and ambitions, ready for any challenges the economy, trends or technology may throw at them. You will develop as a maker, designer, producer and manager, able to take an idea from inception and bring it to fruition.
