like UMak needs an official memory because accountability requires complete documentation.

Archives, on the other hand, form part of the cultural heritage. They build the continuum from the past to the present and can assure a better future. It constitutes the repository of the memory of an individual or institution for better planning, decision-making, continuity, and access to experience. It also provides evidence of duties and responsibilities vital to present-day and future functions.

Why Preserve UMak Heritage?

The concept of "heritage" covers the elements of the world that we feel a worth preserving for future generations. The UMAk has come a long w since its establishment 50 years ago as a polytechnic community colleg Through the years, its significant changes rose from the typical locally ru college into an admirable university in the country.

The LLC Director saw the duty of the library to collect and record local

publications with historical significance, and achieving this promotion w the only major initiative before her tenure. Our local heritage is

like a treasure trove that holds the stories of those who came before us. It gives us a sense of belonging and a deeper understanding of our roots. By preserving our local heritage, we ensure that previous generations' memories, values, and accomplishments are not forgotten. It allows us to pass down our shared history to future generations, giving them a solid foundation to build upon.

Celebrating the School Heritage From the University of Makati Executive Summary texts, UMak was

conceived and established in 1972 as the Makati Polytechnic Community College, the University of Makati (UMak) continuous to fulfill its central role in responding to the needs of providing quality public tertiary education and skills training to the morally upright, selfreliant, and community-oriented but less-privileged citizens of Makati."

As the UMak embarks on its 50th anniversary, the institution launched its coffee table book Skyward: The Rise of the Heron, a collection of testimonies of fruitful achievements and more than four decades of milestones. In other approaches, it's definitive documentation of local stories and oral histories of significant personalities and older residents whose anecdotal appearances are treasured in netting the spirit of UMak heritage and ensuring it is preserved for future Makatizens.

III. Electronic Subscriptions With the aim to provide the UMak community with an electronic collection of information that is organized to allow users to retrieve information through various search strategies, the LLC has subscribed to new databases that support the research and academic needs of the students, faculty, and researchers. Each database is made up of abstracts and document articles from specific publications, such as academic journals, ebooks, audio and video works, theses and dissertations, working papers and reports, case studies, and other sources that are scholarly and peer-reviewed. These databases empower researchers to take on today’s global challenges such as inequality, food security, unemployment, world population, human rights, climate change, and to say the least infectious diseases with authoritative information and collaborative user center tools and techniques. Moreover, it helps the researchers imprint their discovery and accomplishments in the international arena of scholars which augments and propels the academic ecosystem. Oxford University Press. Oxford Academic is Oxford University Press’s (OUP) academic research platform, providing access to over 40,000 books and 500 journals. They serve the diverse and changing research needs of students, researchers, professors, and practitioners and seek ongoing feedback from these communities.

9.

b. TECHNOLOGY - FOSTERING OPEN ACCESS TO SEARCH

Defended the much-anticipated implementation of ExLibris Alma, a nextgeneration integrated library system, incorporating the latest technologies in the field for user search and discovery and electronic resource management: The Alma OneSearch is a tool to search materials owned by the library, like books, ebooks, journals, and DVDs, and functions as a discovery gateway to an ever-expanding body of scholarly literature made available by publishers, open access repositories, and leading academic library databases like Web of Science. The technology tears down barriers between different systems and data sources to provide users with a unified, integrated research experience.

21s Century Libraries: Library Automation

During the last pages of the 20th century, library operations and functions were transformed and revolutionized; it was the later development period for library automation. Automation has been integrated in all facets of the library, specifically in accessing and retrieving information, which is the primary commodity in today's world of technology and advancement. Services are thereby upgraded, making them accessible 24/7 to their patrons. Library automation streamlines processes such as tracking book loans, borrowing and returning procedures, selection and acquisitions, and bibliographic description of library resources, shaping the library functions more efficiently and effectively, thus generating an advanced and cutting-edge type of services of the modern class of libraries.

Ease of Use and Access

Information is futile if not utilized or accessed to meet the result. However, technology zooms into the process where users can search the resource in an automated library catalog. Other functions that orthodoxy yet could be accelerated include the loan or borrowing process, returning, and renewals which can be done even at their fingertips in the comfort of their homes. These advancements maximize the utilization of resources while saving time for the end users. What a vision of innovation it revealed to us when it adapted to the fullness of its value and convenience.

12.

Systematized Operations and Management

A simple library management system consolidates all the tasks in the library, from fundamental to complex, such as subject descriptions for cataloging, indexing, and circulation functions. It eradicates human impacts, which is often the cause of inactive, rather tedious transactions. Not withstanding, automation ensures accurate and upto-date records, reduces repetitive clerical work, and ensures greater accuracy, efficiency, and consistency. Further, operational costs are reduced and offer flexibility while speeding up the processing of numerous transactions.

Seamless User Experience

Seamless access empowers users to manage personal transactions without physically visiting the library, navigate freely through different entry links, and retrieve relevant resources for research and studies. Besides, traditional processes, e.g., circulation procedures, are transformed into real-time updates and settings. Further, library cards and catalogs are replaced by user account automation; thus, library operations become efficient and productive.

13.

by discovering and navigating access to various online resources available in the library databases. Further, the alternative to refresh their minds to adapt to the new learning modalities is likewise requisite for the evolving competencies vital for the learning objectives and target outcomes. As the Library Learning Commons continues to introduce and lead the faculty and staff to acquaint themselves with the library collections, it also touches on academic integrity that centers on the art of database searching. Specifically, online and research databases such as the LLC Digital Library, ProQuest, and Oxford Academic are the primary sources of authoritative and scholarly information for research and academic writing. The library database and instruction program were entitled; (Cont’d)

"Access to Information: A Key to Knowledge Acquisition," both offered to students and faculty. The objectives of the program are to: fully utilize the Digital Library platform and the latest trends under the new Hyflex modality mode of learning; fully utilize the ProQuest Central platform as the library repository hub of the UMak procured peer-reviewed journals, ebooks, magazines, and others; fully utilize Oxford Academic, enjoy its unique features, and explore knowledge access without friction in different disciplines that will cater to the student's academic needs; and empower the stakeholders, as researchers, to be effective consumers of information and ultimately achieve higher scientific research.

In the later days of August 2022, the LLC deployed an online database instruction to be at par with the fast-paced changing needs of technologydriven information-seeking generations. UMak librarians were indebted to instructing in first-year orientations. The webinar sessions covered a fullday schedule, which lasted from several weeks to a month. (Cont’d)

18.

They were attended by hundreds of students from different colleges, including the senior high, via an online platform, listening and actively interacting with assigned speakers per database session. Each librarian shared one and a half hours as a running time allotment for each database presentation. Librarians must concentrate on the key features and infuse real-life searching and inquisitorial samples, which are significant points for students, particularly in gathering related works of literature for their papers and academic writing requirements.

The said program enfolded 2,519 students from 14 colleges and SHS. The webinar series for students was instructed by seven (7) librarians and ran from August to September 2022, while four (4) librarians presented for the faculty.

The organizers sent out an online feedback mechanism in Google form immediately after the orientation and database instruction to assess the participants' retention and comprehension and improve the speakers' performance. The librarian speakers administered Sixteen (16) item questions to participants, 6 of which were speaker-centered, while the rest reflected the instruction program's overall performance,

19.

including qualitative observation. Participants catered by the database instructions were mainly from the different Colleges, Institutes, and Higher School of UMak, namely the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), College of Business and Financial Science (CBFS), College of Continuing, Advanced, and Professional Studies (CCAPS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS), College of Construction Sciences and Engineering CCSE, College of Governance and Public Policy (CGPP), College of Human Kinetics (CHK), College of Education (COE), College of Science (COS), College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM), College of Technology Management (CTM), Higher School ng UMak (HSU), Institute of Imaging Health Sciences (IIHS), Institute of Nursing (ION), Institute of Pharmacy (IOP) and School of Law (SOL) respectively.

20.

Data results describe that The Higher School of UMak (HSU) 597 (23.7%) had the most significant number of student participants, followed by the College of Business and Financial Science (CBFS) 89 (23.4%) and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) 246 (9.8%), while the fewest attendees came from the Institute of Pharmacy 15 (.59%); nevertheless, the College of Continuing and Advanced Studies (CCAPS) has no attendees at all. Similarly, the HSU 20 (24%) spearheads again in faculty attendance, tailed by CCAPS 10 (12%), which is joined by College of Science 10 (12%). On the contrary, the CBFS, CCIS, and School of Law (SOL) belong to the colleges with the most limited representation of 1 (1%) during program activity. However, no faculty attendees came from the College of Constructions Sciences and Engineering (CCSE), College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM), and Institute of Pharmacy (IOP).

From the student survey feedback results of the LLC database instruction program, the 8-point question measured using the Likert scale signified the overall program presentation. A total of two-thousand five hundred nineteen participants (2,519) were asked if the topics of the tutorial were clearly defined; 1,663 (66%) answered 5 - excellent, 644 (26%) replied 4 very satisfactory, 183 (7%) rated 3 – satisfactory, 26 (1%) were not satisfied, and 3 (.1%) said it was poorly defined. Question 2 revealed that 1,671 (66%) of the participants said that the topics covered in the tutorial were relevant to them, which has an excellent rating, 638 (25%) said that they were very satisfied, and 6 (.2%). responded poorly. When asked about the organization of the content, 1,671 (66%) also replied with an excellent mark, 616 (24%) were very satisfied, while 6 (.2%) respondents valued it poorly. Correspondingly, the same rating trend on Question 4 to Question 8; equally, the majority of the participants responded that they gained new knowledge applicable to their respective studies, the tutorial was worth their time, and they plan to apply what they have learned in the program. Nevertheless, a minority argued that the speakers' and audience interaction should be encouraged. (Cont’d)

21.

Over the decade, librarians have redefined academic libraries as spaces of learning and places that contain information resources (Oliveira, 2017). Libraries have transformed into learning centers where librarians actively create more profound and double-loop learning experiences for all students

determined learning, divergent thinking, and learner-centered principles (Blaschke & Hase, 2016; Ryan & Ryan, 2015). Librarians must be upkeep with skills and competencies to be at par with the challenges of the rapid technological change, especially in technology-driven resources, which are now ubiquitous in the generation of new learners. Librarians should emphasize ethical considerations in conducting instructional design for students' learning activities, as underlined in the media and information literacies. On the other hand, based on the. (Cont’d)

22.

Results of the feedback questions administered during the LLC Digital and database instructions, the succeeding outcomes have been abridged:

There are 2,519 students and 83 faculty participated in the LLC online database instructions webinar; Majority of the students' participants responded 5- excellent remarks on eight-item feedback questions administered to them after the sessions that reflect the overall outcome of the program; Majority of the faculty participants responded positively with 5 excellent scores relevant to the topics presented, relevance, content organization, allotted time, participation and interaction, value, learnings, and integration of the program A minority of student participants (7ave/question) rated 1 (poor) as regards the overall outcome of the program, however only 6 faculty members rated 3 (satisfied) which serves as a fraction of an excellent rating in all feedback questions. All the librarian-speakers of the database instructions for faculty got a majority rating of 5 (Excellent) in all the 6-item feedback questions All the librarian-speakers of the database instructions for faculty were knowledgeable and could exhibit mastery of the subject matter. There are many ways to introduce the library's educational, cultural, and recreational services and resources to the students and faculty who serve as primary patrons of the library. One such method is library orientation and database instructions, which are critical to acquaint the librarians with utilizing the available resources. At the beginning of the semester, during instructions, librarians may feel pressured to include every piece of relevant information in the short time allotment; the speaker should consider sharing a brief but memorable and warm introduction. (Cont’d)

23.

Students may not need to know that the library has sophisticated research tools; however, without academic requirements in the classroom, students may not reasonably care and remember all those instructions details. Thus, students should perceive that UMak LLC has accommodating librarians who can help them. They must also realize that the library is a place to study, do homework, and work collaboratively with classmates.

From August to September 2022, the LLC conducted a yearly LLC Digital and Databases instruction to educate the UMak students and faculty on access and use of scholarly databases. Two thousand five hundred nineteen (2,519) students and 83 faculty assessed the effectiveness and success of the said database instruction through a survey questionnaire enumerating the different aspects of the program. This evaluation report stressed the importance of guiding the patrons on effectively and efficiently utilizing the electronic resources at their disposal and that there are more things than meets the eye.

It was therefore concluded, based on the data gathered through the survey, that a very high percentage of the students and faculty found the program to be very educational and instructional. They rate the speakers-librarian as an information specialist and excellent in their presentation of the subject matter. The real-time webinar hands-on tutorial-(Cont’d)

24.

Was a great plus to the program's success since many students are unfamili locate information at the tip of their fingers in the comfort of their homes.

The students and faculty warmly responded with comments and suggesti upgrades and improvements they want the library staff to consider in the fu library's electronic resources, which generally aims to fully empower the stud part of their privileges and could further enhance their academic performance.

In brief, library database instruction is a vital part of the programs and service literacy of its academic community. Libraries are reaching out to be more engaging and relevant in this sers. Furthermore, the Library Learning Commons firmly believes in "kaizen"

26.

Its instruction and services and ensure its patrons' total capacity in a responsible and intelligent approach to accessing, retrieving, evaluating, and using the information.

The librarians should consider the following points for improvement in redesigning the new database and instruction programs: Librarians should prepare and assist the student to become competent in research writing. Ethical and legal use of information is a significant topic to consider when redesigning new instructional programs Instructional programs may be developed and deployed in a series of logical progressions to reinforce students' information literacy, which can be acquired through a modular approach to instruction. Librarians should be required to deliver instruction relevant to information literacy to ensure students are provided with skills and strategies as they seek, access, process, create, and evaluate information.

27.

Information literacy programs should be designed in a series of modular approaches, which may be considered in the following fractions: library orientation, online database orientation, research writing, and referencing. Librarians may inject humor in library instructions, which elicits enjoyment and helps to connect with the students. It can reduce students' anxiety about using the library, especially when they need help from library staff, and encourage students to visit the library, improve, recall, and retain course content, and enable positive associations with library resources or the librarian. For heutagogy, self-reflection, and double-loop learning to occur, librarians must develop many learning modules and spend considerable time teaching students about various library resources.

28.

c. EMBEDDED LIBRARIAN IN TEACHING

INFORMATION LITERACY Librarians ensure that students understand how to conduct research, identify and locate reliable resources, and provide graduate, undergraduate students, and faculty members personalized face-to-face database instructions.

Access to Information: a key to knowledge acquisition ProQuest Central, as a remote Library database, is one of the alternative ways to deliver library services effectively. Providing library orientation for access to materials available in the ProQuest Central Database to our remote users amid a pandemic is considered one of the most challenging that the LLC Team has to hurdle. However, the most significant challenge is maintaining the students' high utilization rate, where the renewal of the LLC's continuing project depends upon the number of students' usage rate. The LLC will have its first Library Event from August 22 to September 22 with the theme: Access to Information: A Key to Knowledge Acquisition. The library activity's objectives are to increase the student's utilization rate, monitor students' activity on the ProQuest Central Platform, and become proficient in using

Acting on Our Part in the Teaching and Learning Process The LLC has always been instrumental in contributing to students' academic success at the University. One such area where our librarians have had a significant impact is the instruction of undergraduate firstyear students and transferees across all ten (10) colleges and three (3) institutes, including the High School, by embedding content into English and other related subjects' courses. The sudden shift in the education landscape brought about the birth and boom of a rich array of learning and teaching alternatives. However, we have yet to drill down and further explore these innovative modalities and how to best facilitate migration from traditional to flexible learning in a pedagogically principled way. Thus, LLC launched a sequel of the library orientation and database instructions for the faculty and admin staff of the University. The primary content in these online webinars focuses on developing informationgathering and analysis skills to support academic and lifelong learning. The webinar features LLC online databases,

research. tools and strategies, and other resources when classes are online. Librarians worked quickly and diligently to integrate the online databases remotely to meet the desired learning outcomes and provide interactive activities to keep the attendees engaged. The online session concluded with 96 participants who actively interacted with the speakers and provided positive and constructive feedback to improve the program's content and delivery.

ii. How to Avoid Plagiarism

Understanding the concept of plagiarism is one way to avoid and prevent the act of committing such academic dishonesty. There are several ways to refrain students, faculty, and researchers from doing so: First, it is to familiarize oneself with the UMak academic integrity policies, which the research department discharges, and guidelines for citation formats, which the library ingeniously and precisely introduced. Next, while doing research tasks such as selecting and reading resources, taking notes, and saving sources are prudently observed. Then, rephrase and abridge the content instead of copying verbatim. In addition, use the proper citation formats accurately such as APA, MLA, Chicago, etc., to accredit the original author. Furthermore, plan work ahead, avoid procrastination, get a head start, and learn how to prioritize tasks to deal effectively with drastic deadlines. By having those concepts in mind, we can safeguard the original work, contents, words, and ideas are appropriately cited and prevent any issues and concerns related to plagiarism.

iii. Fake News and How to Spot a Fake News

According to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results, most Filipinos, or 51%, find it difficult to spot fake news on television, radio, or social media. Fake news, which has two forms: misinformation and disinformation, causes great concern for all members of society. Its proliferation on social media undermines democracy because it is supposed to be a platform. (Cont’d)

where the commonplace has a voice, and the widespread unrestricted and unlimited content fed to an unsuspecting populace is “disturbing.” To help the students discern facts from fake news, the Library Learning Commons created a video on how to spot fake news.

iv. Feb-ibig Month Activity Celebration

“A true relationship is someone who accepts your past, supports your present, loves you, and encourages your future.” Everyone wants to feel loved and be loved aside from the protection and care they receive and enjoy in a romantic or any type of relationship. They are longing for unswerving and constant communication and affection with the person they love. Mutual attention and affection between lovers are ideal in a relationship, and each time it rekindles toward one another is mutually nurtured and reciprocated. That’s why it is unimaginable and absurd to create relationships between women and men without any status and agreements. The absence of these agreements creates a lot of numerous questions.

41.

Relationship status is a distinct or implicit agreement between two people. They address each other’s needs by creating terms of affection or rejecting any of them and asserting an open relationship without commitment. This status show what exactly

they mean for another person. Some people consider their significant others as partners or friends, while some view them as husband or wife or in other terms as a couple.

The evaluation was primarily conducted in observance of February as often known for being a month dedicated to and all about love. However, this month is not only about valentines and sweethearts; instead, it can also be a month of self-love and self-care, fostering relationships with family and friends, and loving others.

The evaluation employed a quantitative style, primarily through the conduct of a

survey type of data gathering using log-in attendance from patrons entering the LLC premises starting from February 13 to 20 of 2023. Respondents were classified according to their enrolled colleges. The instrument was used to determine the relationship status of the participants in terms of their personal views reflected on their log-in attendance. Log-in attendance from library patrons was categorized into eleven (11) types of relationship status. These types of status were based on unique Filipino trend in modern popular culture

about the current relationship status such as: (1) Sa mga na ghost; (2) Sa mga di- maka move-on; As love can be expressed in many forms, however, there are seven types of love that are loosely based on classical readings, such as eros, which is akin to the modern construct of romantic love; philia, or friendship, is a shared goodwill; storge or familial love, pertaining to the love of between parents and their children; agape as universal love, such as the love for strangers, nature or God; (Cont’d)
