THE TOWNSVILLE HOSPITAL STAGE 1 EXPANSION
PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES CALL FOR REGISTRATIONS OF INTEREST
Brecknock Consulting, on behalf of Queensland Health, is calling for Registrations of Interest from artists to undertake commissions for a series of artworks for internal public spaces within the newly constructed North Block building as part of The Townsville Hospital Expansion Project (Stage 1). The commissioned artworks will take the form of wall-based works which are framed, sealed and securely installed. Identified locations include reception and waiting areas, lift lobbies and key corridors. The artworks will play an important role in enhancing the waiting and wayfinding experiences within the hospital, providing distinctive visual interest and engagement to assist in alleviating boredom, anxiety, distress and expressing a sense of community connection. Content of artworks in these locations needs to be carefully considered and should aim to be calming, positive, thoughtful and humanising. Local artists who are interested in working a health context are encouraged to apply, including artists of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Pacific Islander, and non-English speaking backgrounds. A broad range of art practices will be considered for these opportunities, including: painting, drawing, collage and printmaking, photography and digital imagery, low-scale sculptural relief and small sculptures. The engagement will involve a direct commission process which will include a remunerated 6 week concept design phase followed by a 12 week fabrication and installation phase during 2012. To register interest please submit a resumé, artist statement, and 8-10 images (in jpeg format) demonstrating professional arts practice and experience. A one-page statement which expresses interest in working in the local context of the Townsville District Health Service and The Townsville Hospital environment is also an optional inclusion. There is no briefing package available at this stage and there are no required submission forms. Please note: • No additional supporting material will be viewed. • Registration of Interest material will not be returned to applicant. • No payment is being offered for a Registration of Interest. • At this stage artists are not required to provide concepts and are specifically requested not to send concept designs or maquettes. • Submission of a Registration of Interest does not constitute a contractual relationship with the Commissioner, who is under no obligation to select or contract any one of the Registrations of Interest received.
