EXHIBITION

CALENDAR

2012

Welcome from the Director

Hello Umbrella Members, Art Enthusiasts and Visitors, The brilliant new look of our 2012 Exhibition Calendar was designed by our very own Alan Junior. His colour selection of sunny yellow on the brochure cover reflects the radiance glowing from our line up of great exhibitions, from esteemed senior practioners to first time solo shows, in a range of mediums including textile Beanies from remote Indigenous community artists to Compact Prints 2012 from all around the globe. On 20 January we launch a new season with two solo exhibitions of life journies and landscape from Melissa Elliot and Gabriel Smith. We showcase young artists in two major group shows; the first being the Audio –technica Young Artists Prize in March: a juried competition for artists between the ages of 15 and 25. In July we showcase year 12 students during Students In-Case alongside our season blockbuster, Compact Prints 2012, highlighting the strength of our international network of traditional and digital printmakers. In April we participate in the Queensland Festival of Photography with Hanging in the Wind, featuring over 26 journalistic photographers from the Townsville Bulletin. (cont...)

We close the exhibition calendar in November with Black and White, the theme for the annual Members’ exhibition. Lookout in our monthly eNews and web information for special events, coffee concerts, special Members’ events, professional practice information sessions, open studios, and..... Well you see the picture; 2012 is a year of high quality visual arts at Umbrella. Vicki Salisbury, Director
