Extraordinary opportunities

College of engineering

Welcome to the College of Engineering, a diverse community of students engaged in learning and research at UMass Dartmouth. We prepare students to become the next generation of successful engineers, scientists, and business leaders who address challenges, improve the well-being of society, work locally, and create new knowledge on a global scale.

We offer eight undergraduate majors and several concentrations, minors, and accelerated BS-MS programs designed to support lifelong learning and professional development for a strong and evolving career. The undergraduate engineering and computer science programs are accredited by ABET, the global standard for program quality in engineering and computer science.

Being a student-athlete sets you up to be a leader and a good community member. It has really helped me to become who I am. The bioengineering program has shaped me as a researcher and a scholar, and athletics has shaped me as a person.”

Internship at Wayfair

National Society of Black Engineers

Be an engineer from day one

You will start cultivating an engineering mindset from day one. In your first-year introductory coursework, you’ll be immersed in your major, do hands-on work, and start thinking like an engineer.

Get the support you need to succeed

You’ll face new challenges, but you won’t have to do it alone. First year students receive advising from professional academic advisors to set them on a path for success. Engineering Student Support & Services (ES3) offers assistance throughout your academic journey, and the STEM Learning Lab offers tutoring and study groups (and dog therapy!)

Our signature program: The capstone project

Your education culminates in a yearlong capstone project. The capstone is the College of Engineering’s signature program where teams of students take on real-world challenges on behalf of an industry client or government sponsor.

Contribute to cutting-edge research

In the College of Engineering, you’ll have access to opportunities afforded by a national research university with the personalized attention of a small school. Under the mentorship of a faculty member, you will have unique opportunities to participate in advanced research and cutting-edge technologies to develop new knowledge. This will enrich your educational experience and open doors to permanent employment and graduate studies upon graduation.

Mechanical engineering capstone students built an off-road vehicle for an international competition in Gorman, CA.

My internship was a very hands-on experience; I spent about 80% of my time in the field. It was also a great networking opportunity. The engineers on my team have been great mentors as I get ready to begin my career.”
