Further information is posted at reslife.umd.edu/housingoutlook. We remain committed to keeping you well informed about the availability of our housing for 2021-2022. If you have a question about your status please contact us at reslife@umd.edu or 301.314.2100. Thank you.
RESIDENCE HALLS The Department of Resident Life’s Room Selection process for the 2021-2022 academic year will begin on March 1. Students who wish to return to on-campus housing must submit their Returning Student Agreement by 4:00 p.m. March 26 to be eligible to participate in Room Selection. Rising Sophomores First-year students (rising sophomores) who lived on campus for both fall and spring, spring semester only, or who lived off campus but meet eligibility requirements will have priority for returning to residence halls*. Eligible students may choose from many residence hall housing options including traditional rooms, semi-suites, suites, and apartments. Visit reslife.umd.edu to view the various housing options. For a complete listing of the residence halls and amenities, view the Residence Hall at a Glance reslife.umd.edu/hallsatglance. NOTE: Sophomores living on-campus have first priority to select rooms in South Campus Commons (SCC) or The Courtyards (CTY) for their junior year. First-year students currently living in the residence halls can also apply to SCC and CTY. See information about SCC and CTY for details or email pppleasing@umd.edu for additional information. Students who move off campus no longer have priority for on-campus housing. * Students who had a confirmed 2020-21 housing agreement who were released from that agreement by August 12, 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.
Exempted Groups The On-Campus Student Housing Strategic Plan allows for certain students to be exempted within our housing commitments policy. View exemptions at reslife.umd.edu/housingoutlook. The Housing Commitment Policy, collaboratively established with the Residence Hall Association (RHA), outlines the priority order allocation of residence hall spaces. View the policy at reslife.umd.edu/housing/housingcommitments.
THE COURTYARDS AND SOUTH CAMPUS COMMONS The Courtyards at the University of Maryland (CTY) and South Campus Commons (SCC) are the University of Maryland’s public-private partnership undergraduate student apartment communities and are managed by a private management company, Capstone On-Campus Management. Students who sign leases at CTY or SCC must be approved by the Department of Resident Life. Second-year students (rising juniors) living in residence halls for the Spring 2021 semester and who meet the application deadlines (see important dates below) will have the highest priority for an estimated 1,300 new leases that will become available. Second and third year students living in the residence halls will also be eligible to be pulled-in to vacancies in these apartments by current residents who are renewing leases for 2021-2022. Resident Life expects more than 1,100 current second-year students to apply to lease at these properties. Both properties require 11.25-month leases and offer the option of a lease renewal for your fourth year in college. Current first and third year students may apply to lease at The Courtyards or South Campus Commons, and will be eligible after all current second-year students have had leasing appointments. All interested students must meet the specified CTY/SCC application deadlines for eligibility.
A Note to All Residents The Housing Commitments Policy states how the Department of Resident Life will allocate available on-campus residence hall space. Freshmen and Freshmen Connections students have priority as new residents, and then returning second-year students (rising sophomores) are considered on a space available basis. Returning third-year and fourth year students (rising juniors and rising seniors) not in exempted groups will be considered but, again, only on a space available basis.
