Our Go Blue Guarantee covers the cost of in-state tuition for up to four years of full-time undergraduate study on the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses for Michigan residents who qualify. On the Ann Arbor campus, the qualifications include a family income of $75,000 or less and family assets up to $75,000, subject to certain limits (assets include home equity, savings/checking, investments, real estate, and business net worth, but not retirement accounts). If you don’t qualify for free tuition, U-M also provides tuition support for qualifying families with incomes up to $180,000. Approximately 71% of all U-M firstyear students receive some form of financial aid.

The Go Blue Guarantee is our commitment to keeping a world-class education affordable and accessible for all Michigan residents pursuing undergraduate study on our Ann Arbor campus. It includes: • FREE tuition for up to four years of full-time study for qualifying families with incomes of $75,000 or less and assets up to $75,000 (subject to certain limits).* • Tuition support for some qualifying families earning more. U-M is the only public university in Michigan that covers 100% of demonstrated financial need of

eligible Michigan residents.† Examples of typical tuition support offered to Michigan families who apply for aid are featured in the chart at right.

What Does the Go Blue Guarantee Cover? The Go Blue Guarantee covers undergraduate tuition and mandatory university fees. Tuition is the specific charge you are billed for your classes. Additional expenses such as housing and meals, books, supplies, and personal items are not covered by the Go Blue Guarantee, but many students find other sources of aid to pay these costs.

Common Myths About U-M’s Affordability Figuring out how to pay for college can be confusing and intimidating for students and their families. Below, we directly address some common misconceptions about U-M’s affordability and financial aid to help clarify what funding opportunities are available for in-state students.

Next Steps in Your Senior Year Step 1: Apply to U-M Beginning Aug. 1, you can start your U-M application through the Common Application (apply.commonapp.org), which also serves as your application for most merit scholarships. We recommend applying by our Nov. 1 Early Action deadline (Dec. 1 for the School of Music, Theatre & Dance) for the most competitive merit scholarship consideration. (Please note that the application includes specific University of Michigan questions.) We may be able to waive your application fee. Make a request on the application, or call 734-764-7433 for details.

Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid We use information provided on both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS/Financial Aid Profile to determine your eligibility for need-based financial aid. This will help you figure out the amount that you and your family will need to pay for your education.

You can fill out your applications on these websites: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): studentaid.gov Complete the FAFSA online as soon as possible to be considered for all need-based and non-need-based federal loans and WorkStudy, as well as federal and state need-based grants and scholarships. The 2024-2025 FAFSA will be available by the end of December. U-M’s code is 002325. CSS/Financial Aid Profile: cssprofile.collegeboard.org Complete your profile to be considered for all need-based university grants and scholarships. The profile is available each year after Oct. 1. U-M’s code is 1839. Students who submit their application materials by the suggested filing date of Dec. 15 will receive an estimated financial aid package as soon as it’s available. Otherwise, you can still apply by the final deadline date of March 31* and receive an aid offer before May 1. You do not need to be admitted to apply for financial aid. *Subject to change; consult finaid.umich.edu for most current deadlines.
