As the year 2013 comes to a close and we step into 2014, a reflection on how far we’ve come helps forward us in guaging home much further we need to go. This year we stood together to protest
This issue is a quick peak for all of our fans featuring articles by a few LGBT allies, Latoya Ifill and Sheryl Ingoglia, focusing on staying mentally and physically fit during this holiday season. For now have a great holiday,
against Russia, stood up for our Gay Catholic School Principles, come out of the closet and stood together at pride. This journey still has a long way to go as the news is still flooded with tragedies against or LGBT brothers and sisters abroad.

About Us
E
lijah Li, Kyung Hyo and volunteers that identify as cultural minorities in LGBT community who wanted change founded Umiius Magazine. Umiius was primarily created to provide a voice for the forgotten
LGBT minorities in academia communities. Their experiences matriculating through college led them to the conclusion that minority LGBT groups were struggling. The atmosphere on many campuses did not leave room for them to flourish or express themselves freely on their own terms. After realizing the issues on campuses were just one small facet of the issues at hand, Umiius decided to expand its interest.

HOLIDAY BLUES Latoya Ifill Okay people, it’s that time of year again. A time for frigid temperatures, the smell of pine, turkey or ham (if, like me, you’re into swine) in the oven and to be surrounded by family.
It’s the holiday
season. For some, it’s the most joyous and exciting time of the year. For others, though, it’s the loneliest. Unfortunately, this

for
many
individuals in the LGBT community. While there are no reliable statistics on depression amongst people who identify as LGBT, the holidays can be the biggest triggers in this population for various reasons. Based on their sexual orientation, family dynamics, or political and religious beliefs, some people in the LGBT community are ostracized from their families, not accepted or not able to spend the holidays with them. Fortunately, however, the community can be close-knit and protective, so friends can become family for those who struggle during this time. Millions

Healthy Eating
SHERYL INGOGLIA
Here comes round two of the holiday
fun! With Thanksgiving right behind us, it is now time to be prepared so you can enter New Year’s Eve looking and feeling fabulous. If the holiday season was just one day of free for all eating it wouldn’t be so bad. But its not. Its Thanksgivingukkah, holiday parties, work parties, cookies for days, Christmas, Christmas Eve, Kwanza, a New Year’s Eve Drink fest, and feasts on New Year’s day. Its long, and for those trying to stay in shape it’s a “just say no” marathon.
So where to start if you want to stay in
shape? You must have a plan! Without a plan everything could fall apart. One thing you can plan out ahead of time is the allowance of “bad food” you are willing to allow yourself to eat. It’s good to be bad! Just not all the time. You can pick a percentage of time when you allow yourself to eat bad stuff, like 10% bad 90% good or 20% bad 80% good. It is so important not to deprive yourself during the holidays. If you try to avoid all of the decadent treats one of two things may happen: you may become miserable watching everyone else eating what

Too much alcohol will sabotage your with friends and family. So be present to enjoy great efforts in two ways: 1. It will impair your everything around you without obsessing over judgment and you will over eat. 2. Drinking food and your body. alcohol means drinking your calories. So give yourself a limit.
