Launched in June 2008, overcame the unexpected challenges fast approached as the Global Financial Crisis started gripping the region soon after launch. Company embarked in to engineering, design and project management activities for transmission and distribution projects complemented with installation of selected, specialist activities and successfully delivered all of them on time and to very satisfaction of customer/clients. Thanks to the remarkable support extended by our customers through the period of hard times as a reward to the commitments we fulfilled to their expectation. MME-India being de-facto parent company of Enfras provided first ERS-BP system concept and design in UAE in 2007 for a DEWA 400kv Transmission system.

Assistance to develop FEED engineering, including survey whenever required. Complete engineering for Transmission and distribution projects, overhead lines, underground cabling and substation. Complete Engineering for ERS By Pass arrangement using both modular structures and custom designed wood pole structures. This is a new concept in the region and MME Enfras has been responsible to design and supervise such debut projects in the UAE for 132 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV.

Apart from any kind and type of Emergency Restoration System By Passing, enfras undertake installation of transmission lines up to 400kV and sub stations up to 400kV. Testing commissioning protocol including line parameters calculations are done by Enfras including supervision on demand. Effective project planning and management support is rendered by Enfras to meet targets.

For instance the company had been responsible to introduce HV Insulator silicon coatings (Canadian manufacturer) first time to Dubai utility. The company had been also responsible to introduce alternative ERS supplier first time to the Middle East and proved successful. The company can aid promoting new. In association with experienced and established specialist Enfras offers hot line maintenance works in systems up to 400 kV. The service includes state of art bare hand method also. Enfras & MME are currently pursuing R & D to explore possibilities of Hot Line Interfacing to accomplish ERS-By Pass Tie In which is expected to bring Abundant Benefits to Utilities, in particular across Middle East.

As the term indicates ERS (BP) is a temporary overhead line to by pass certain length of an extent (existing) line in the event of an emergency often in west but seldom in Gulf. Relevant To Gulf (U.A.E) Off late Gulf Utilities (U.A.E in particular) started realizing benefits of ERS By Passing‌ to address. Modification on existing lines and Repair & Maintenance of existing system. Augmentation of other Infrastructures. Further recommended applications. System upgrading and/ Up rating.
Terminology Popularly known as ERS BP. Term Emergency Restoration is not limited to power line system, but to other systems too. As the term refers its original objective is to address Emergency Scenarios. Water supply, Roads, Major plants, Bridges etc are few examples to cite. SYSTEM FAILURE Infrastructure systems get damaged due to various reasons such as natural calamity, vandalism, Faulty Design, Faulty Material construction, Inadequate or improper maintenance, Over loading, Over aging etc. However this presentation shall be confined to Over head power lines as others are not relevant for this presentation. Furthermore, this presentation shall discuss the ERS in general and shall not go in depth technical as such aspects are addressed in detail on separate proposal upon request.

Origin
Original concept was to address failure scenarios alone. Transmission lines are vulnerable to failure, causes of failure of being either natural calamity beyond the control of man kind (or) acts controllable by man kind including accidental damages. Failures of critical transmission lines were in America, Canada, Europe and such failures not only resulted in huge financial losses to utility but also adversely affected political dimensions. It does not mean there was no failure in Asia. However the idea of ERS was lately recognized in Asia. Thus a basic temporary system was conceived, designed and used to meet such situations. It has become utilities (or) the grid (power system) owners be prepared to address such exigencies/emergencies. However primary concern and consideration were restoration time required for restoration of parent line and found although inherited with limitations ERS (BP) system helped to minimize economic losses and socio political implications. When time using ERS was compared with restoration of parent line substantial benefits were found.

System Description What does ERS (BP) Comprise of?
A system made out of various components purpose designed and made. Consists portable modular structural components (Aluminum or Steel). Structures does not require excavated/ planted foundations except base plate and Gimbal joint. Purpose made insulators and Hard Wares assembly. Integrated Guy system wires, hardware’s , Guy Anchors. Customized wood pole structures , specifically to meet UAE/Gulf situations. In summary it is foundation Less Guyed support system, except for wood poles foundation for them are simple direct planting.

Salient Features of ERS (BP)
ERS-BP design is chiefly governed by shortest possible time to complete restoration. Unlike regular (permanent) lines, ERS design is not driven by optimization rather by flexibility. The system offer good amount of versatility in such a way components of different combinations can be used for different line voltages. In the sense it is not necessary to possess inventory of different packages for different line voltages. Generally it is meant to last short duration; where as successful operation over many successive years have been recorded in some cases. Experience of use of ERS in UAE suggests that the system often requires to be complemented with purpose designed wood pole structures in some cases. Considering short life design and interruption in loading substantial relaxation is permitted in material factor, Load Factor etc. when comparing with regular transmission lines. Does not make any sense to insist design ERS (BP) with same specification applicable for regular transmission lines; although it is possible to meet such cases, should the customer vehemently insists. Components are designed in such a way, offering transport across rugged terrain, remote locations with restricted access for heavy plants and equipments. Designed in such a way worst case to complete installation can be completed without mobilizing crane or similar equipments. ERS By Pass systems have been manually transported (up to 3km) by crossing rivers & narrow ridges . An effective ERS BP design is largely driven by flexibility and convenience in handling rather than optimization stressed for regular transmission lines.
