WCSA Alumni Association Scholarship Recipients

I’m Chloe Keller.

I am a biology major with a psychology minor.

I wanted to attend the University of Minnesota Morris because all three of my older siblings have attended and they said how great of an environment it was.

My favorite thing about Morris is the small class sizes and everyone knows everybody.

I’m Spencer Lieser. My major is financial and organizational management.

I work at the Admissions Office and with Facilities.

I decided to go to UMN Morris because of its location and small size which is what I was looking for.

My favorite thing about UMN Morris is that everyone knows everyone, including the teachers.

Remembering Carol Pederson Meyer

It was an honor to attend the Celebration of Life service for Carol Pederson Meyer '60 on Feb. 3. I learned more about her during the service than I expected, and it reminded me that the Aggies are a wonderful group of people.

It is always a pleasure to meet Aggies, and Carol was one of the most involved members of the WCSA Alumni Association. I appreciated her wise words whenever I had the opportunity to attend a meeting of the WCSA Board of Directors or the WCSA Alumni Association annual meeting at a reunion.

As I walked into the church sanctuary, I happened to walk up to Carol’s good friend, LuWanna Foslien Hintermeister ’60. LuWanna told me that Carol had chosen all the music for her funeral and it had connections to WCSA.

During their senior year, the choir sang “Beautiful Savior.” John Ylvisaker was Director. This must have been his first job after getting a bachelor’s degree

from Concordia College in 1959. In 1985, Mr. Ylivisaker composed “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry.”

For the recessional, the organist played “On West Central.” Just before the service LuWanna had told him that the music was “On Wisconsin” and asked him to play it peppy. He did play it peppy, three times as I recall. I sang it in my head all three times.

Pastor Jill Sanders mentioned several volunteer roles that Carol enjoyed. Carol was on lots of boards. She would call family and friends to ask about what interested them and use activities, including bowling and golfing, to bond with them. She brought sandwiches to swimming competitions to help support her family members’ swim teams.

LuWanna told me that she often called Carol for an answer to a question because Carol would give a straight answer.

Even after her death, Carol is still giving to others. Carol donated her body to the University of Minnesota to help train medical and dental students.

Fondly Remembered…
