THE BEAM Department of Radiation Oncology

F EBRUARY 2013

Dear Friends, It has been an amazing start to 2013 so far! The second week of January we held the Annual “Best of 2012 Radiation Oncology Symposium” which accrued record breaking attendance. The following week over 400 guests came to the Maryland Proton Treatment Center’s Topping Out Event, which was a huge success! We are in the third month of Dr. Suntha’s new role as President and CEO of the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and he is still keeping up his busy clinical schedule with a full time presence here on Fridays. Although we are continually growing and expanding, we always want to remain focused on our priority, which is patient care. It was an honor to host a dinner at the Hope Lodge over the holidays for cancer patients and their families. Thanks to all of you who helped arrange this fantastic evening. Our patients and their families greatly appreciated it. As the department grows, so does the Beam! As you may have realized, the Beam will now only be distributed 3 times a year instead of quarterly. We hope you enjoy this larger edition of the Beam and as always thank you for your endless and tireless dedication. I can’t possibly distribute this Beam without mentioning the Super Bowl Champions, the Baltimore Ravens!! I would like to leave you with this inspirational quote from Ray Lewis:

Table of Contents: Grateful Patients Alumni News

“Do not settle for average. Bring your best to every single moment. You must demand only the very best from yourself and for yourself. That is the only way to reach your potential, touch the world with your gifts and live your dreams. Whether you fail or succeed, at least you know you gave everything you had. You placed everything on the table. Be willing to dare, to proclaim your commitment to your dream and leave it all out there. Time is ticking away, this is your only shot to give your best effort. Go for it.” Giving our best always for our patients.
