Dean Garry W. Jenkins is the 11th dean in the Law School’s history. He is an awardwinning scholar in the fields of nonprofit law, global justice, and corporate law. Prior to entering academia, he clerked for a federal appellate court judge, worked for a New York City law firm, and was chief operating officer and general counsel for one of the 10 largest corporate foundations in the country. Prior to joining Minnesota Law, she was assistant counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund where she oversaw cases from investigation through appeal that focused on criminal justice, voting rights, and school desegregation.

The University of Minnesota Law School recently announced the addition of the Racial Justice Law Clinic, which targets deeply embedded, systemic racial inequalities and discrimination while training future lawyers to make an impact on this critical work. Professor Liliana Zaragoza leads the clinic.

Professor Alan Rozenshtein is the faculty advisor for the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology He teaches constitutional law, criminal procedure, and cybersecurity law, among other courses. He is a a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Scholars Strategy Network, and a senior editor at Lawfare.

Imagine learning directly from faculty who have spearheaded national legislative and judicial reforms, founded programs that provide free legal services to underserved individuals and communities, advised the president and Congress, and led governmental bodies, businesses, and major non profit organizations. These esteemed professors will become your lifelong mentors as they bring their real-world experiences and perspectives into the classroom. Through our uniquely collaborative approach, you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with faculty to co-author scholarly articles, represent clients in our law clinics, and develop your lawyering and leadership skills.

First year law students are paired with a faculty advisor, who meets with them throughout the semester to check in on their studies. Director of Academic and Bar Success Kim Ronning meets with students during a fall 1L advising lunch. Our faculty are some of the most accomplished scholars in the world, as well as active mentors dedicated to your success.

Anna Bachan, 3L, and Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, faculty director of the Human Rights Center, attended the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, last spring. Prof. Ní Aoláin serves as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms while Countering Terrorism. She frequently engages with students on important humanitarian issues at home and abroad.

Evan Dale, 2L, is from Golden Valley, Minnesota. Prior to law school, he worked for two years in Washington, D.C., as an operations manager and space and science policy advisor in the U.S. House of Representatives. This summer, he was a law clerk for the District Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, working with the Director of Policy in the office’s misdemeanor diversion and community supervision programs. Evan is a Minnesota Law Review staffer, orientation leader, National Lawyers Guild executive board member, and a student attorney in Minnesota Law’s Racial Justice Law Clinic.

Two 2021–22 Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court teams advanced to the quarterfinal rounds in competition, with one team winning the national competition for the first time in Law School history. Minnesota Law students attended the Spring 2022 Student + Alumni Mixer. Students from APALSA, BLSA, LLSA, OUTLAW, NALSA, and SALSA affinity groups joined alumni at Huntington Bank Stadium for an afternoon social, where new graduates were welcomed into the Minnesota Law alumni community and students were able to connect with others who shared the Law School experience.

Women in Law School Association (WLSA) members Sydney Goggins ’22, Fabiola Gretzinger ’22, and Ingrid Hofeldt ’22 have been friends since their 1L year. The three relied on each other for career and education advice and support and made it a priority to connect outside of class.

Peter Michaud ’97 (chair-elect and partner) and Karla Vehrs ’06 (managing partner) of Ballard Spahr were guest speakers at a Professional Essentials Milestone (PEM) program last year. They spoke about how leadership skills are critical for long-term career and personal success. PEM introduces law students to core concepts surrounding development and interpersonal skills critical for career success. Students receive a transcript notation after completing the PEM program.

Minnesota Law has nonresident and resident (reciprocity) tuition rates. Students from SD, WI, and Manitoba qualify for resident tuition. Merit scholarships are awarded to highly qualified candidates at the time of admission and range from $5,000 to full tuition. No separate application is required. Summer funding and/or fellowships are available to students through the Human Rights Center Fellowship, Robina Public Interest Scholars Program, and the Career Center. Many student paid positions exist at the Law School for law students, including research as sistant, structured study group leader, library assistant, and orientation leader. Travel reimbursement funds are available for students to attend 20+ national diversity, practice area, and law school-hosted job fairs.
