vice program, involvement in one of our 35+ student organizations, and regular engagement with professors, distinguished alumni, and other successful lawyer-leaders who have made a difference in their chosen profession. One of the most exciting, beautiful and affordable metropolitan areas in the nation. With its extensive parks, theater, lakes, sports teams and foodie restaurants, the
Twin Cities “has it all,” according to the New York Times, which gushed over our “urban authenticity, cultural sophistication, and Midwestern friendliness.” Law students enjoy the many benefits of studying in one of the best places in the world to witness and participate in law in action with district, state and federal courts, the state capitol, federal and state government offices, a state legislature, and the fifth largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies close at hand. A powerful network for life. A Minnesota Law education will take you wherever
you want to go—and serve you well. As a graduate, you’ll become part of the strong and vibrant network of Minnesota alumni who have assumed leadership roles in law, business, policy, and beyond around the world. “ONE OF THE BEST”
“My favorite memory from my 1L year was dressing up as my contracts professor on Halloween. Just when I thought he wouldn’t notice during class, we made eye contact. A wry smile spread across his face. He cold called me. I’d like to think he appreciated the gesture, but I know he’d never let on how much it meant to him.”
1L
EXPERIENCES
—PATRICK MURRAY, 3L
“One of the best things about my 1L experience was how connected I felt to the broader legal community, both in the Twin Cities and beyond. Through different networking events hosted by the school, as well as our robust and welcoming alumni network, I was able to speak with numerous lawyers working in my projected field and market which put me in a strong position to cinch my dream job for 2L summer at a large firm in Chicago.” —MOLLIE WAGONER, 3L
“My best memory from my 1L year has to be doing oral arguments as part of Legal Research and Writing. It was a lot of fun arguing a legal position I worked on all semester and doing it against one of my good friends from my section. Afterward, my section mate and I called each other to give feedback on our performances, then chatted as friendly adversaries, just as I imagine opposing lawyers do in real life.” —MICHAEL KINANE, 2L
“By participating in the Asylum Law Project (and several MJF one-day clinics), I did actual legal work and helped people as a 1L. I also thoroughly enjoyed Raise the Bar, a day of service where law students went forth and volunteered. These events were also opportunities to connect with 2Ls and 3Ls and really deepened my bonds with the UMN Law community.” —SARANI RANGARAJAN MILLICAN, 3L

The class I sat in on was incredibly engaging, and the students I met were interesting, thoughtful and passionate. It was definitely the right decision - law school is hard no matter what, but I am grateful for my rigorous legal training from excellent faculty, in a collegial and supportive academic environment.”

The Twin Cities area has 2 of the top 3 best park systems in the entire country (St. Paul ranked #2, Minneapolis ranked #3)
Both downtown Minneapolis and the Stone Arch Bridge are great places to explore on foot. Get to know the historic Mill City by creating your own walking tour or signing up for a guided tour. Make your way across the iconic Stone Arch Bridge towards the St. Anthony Main area. Wander towards SE Main Street and take a left. If you need to refuel, stop in at one of the many eateries that line SE Main Street and overlook the river. Aster Café is the perfect spot for a snack & a drink. Make your way back towards downtown on the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. Once you’ve crossed, take a left and you can jump on West River Parkway to take you back to where you started. Go a little further down West River Parkway and check out the Mill City Ruins and Guthrie Theater. Head up to the 2nd floor of the Guthrie to experience a beautiful overlook of the falls on the Endless Bridge. End your walking tour.

Where Students Live (Continued) NEIGHBORHOOD: Northeast
Northeast has a unique and quirky urban culture with a plethora of art galleries, farmers markets, brew pubs, ethnic restaurants, and family-run businesses.
Another popular neighborhood is Northeast (aka “Nordeast”). The most common types of rental property in NE are homes and duplexes, though a few high-rise apartments have been built recently. Northeast is a great option for students who are looking to live in a more residential area with a community feel plus easy access to great restaurants, shops, Downtown and the Law School. The bus lines running from NE to Downtown and the Law School are very efficient, including a number of express buses which run directly to the University. Although Northeast does feel more residential than Uptown or Downtown, the community has commercial districts stretching along the major corridors of University Avenue, Central Avenue, East Hennepin Avenue, Broadway Avenue, and Stinson and New Brighton Boulevards towards the city limits. Additionally, many rental homes have yards, which can be a big draw for those with dogs or children.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Seven Corners Students live in a number of apartment buildings that are literally across the street from the Law School. Convenience and accessibility are top priorities for those that select to live in this area.
Several apartment buildings are located across the street from the Law School.
18 Fortune 500 Companies The Twin Cities is home to 18 Fortune 500 companies, many which are located in downtown Minneapolis.
18 MEET MINNESOTA 2022
NEIGHBORHOOD: Downtown Downtown is adjacent to the Seven Corners neighborhood (where the Law School is located). Although parts of Downtown are within walking distance to the Law School, there are many buses that connect Downtown to campus in as little as five minutes. Home to many Fortune 500 companies such as Target, U.S. Bancorp, and Xcel Energy, the Downtown neighborhood offers many places to unwind. Here you can find an array of restaurants and bars, anything from award-winning chili and burgers to Thai, vegetarian to pizza, fine-dining to casual. To beat the winter cold, Downtown features nearly 8 miles of skyway systems to connect almost every building in Downtown. You can leave your apartment, head to the downtown Target, catch a bite to eat at the newest restaurant, and take in a movie without ever stepping foot outside! There are many communities offering affordably priced one and two bedrooms. Downtown also has many condos for rent by owner, which can be great for students looking to live in this vibrant area.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Loring Park The Loring Park neighborhood is on the southwest corner of downtown Minneapolis. It houses a park of the same name which hosts various cultural, social, and political events. The park is surrounded by apartment buildings, many dating from the early 1900s. Recent construction in the area has brought many new town homes and condominiums to the area. Loring Park is locally known for its diverse social environment and as a nexus for many arts and cultural events. Notable buildings in the area include the Walker Art Center, Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis Convention Center, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Dinkytown Dinkytown is located immediately north of the University’s East Bank campus. It is a very popular housing option for both undergraduate and graduate students. Traditional student housing options are plentiful. The Washington Avenue Bridge Bus Circulator provides easy access from the East Bank campus to the Law School’s front door.
NEIGHBORHOOD: North Loop The North Loop neighborhood is located west of Hennepin Avenue, near downtown Minneapolis. The area has experienced tremendous growth since the construction of nearby Target Field. Many bars, restaurants, and small retail shops contribute to the vibrancy of the North Loop. The North Loop is popular among young professionals. Accordingly higher-end apartments with many amenities are the most common housing found in the North Loop. Several bus lines as well as the Green Line light rail run from the North Loop to campus, making it easy for students to get to the Law School in 15-20 minutes.

TARUN SHARMA, 3L Undergrad: Hampden - Sydney College Grad School: Duke Hometown: Great Falls, VA Email: sharm719@umn.edu
“I’ve learned that law school can be tough, so it’s critical to like the people you are surrounded by. At the U, I’ve met people who recognize that law school is not a zero-sum game, so we are genuinely happy when any of us succeed. My favorite experience thus far has been playing intramural basketball with my friends. Our team, Pierson v. Post Presence, is (of course) named for a first year Property Law case.” LAW.UMN.EDU

“My favorite experience at Minnesota Law has been working in the Community Partnership for Health Clinic. Minnesota Law has ensured that our clinical program prepares its students to have the tools and skills necessary to successfully help clients with life changing legal counsel. I have gained so much confidence in my own abilities and feel ready to jump into the legal profession after graduation.”
