ven the pandem ic could not stop the University of Mindanao together with Globe in reconnecting the UM Community with a year-ender festival of surprises from December 5 to December 12 which was posted and shared in the University’s official Facebook page. Through the initiative of the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) and Globe’s goal to share and spread goodness to the students and teachers this Christmas season, the week-long kUMbira 2020 event was filled with fun and exciting activities. It also aims to strengthen the connection that has been lost because of the pandemic and to offer enjoyment and break from all the stresses from the previous months. The event was
composed of five activities namely Teacher’s Surprise At Home wherein Globe chose an educator to be the recipient of surprises based on the nominations of the students; Throwback Time; University Carol Competition which showcased the creativity and talents of the different organizations in singing; Virtual Youth Summit wherein the topics discussed were about entrepreneurship and film; and the Online Concert with the invited bands, Next Option and The Dukes. With the help of the Council of Student Organization (CSO) and the Council of College Student Government (CCSG), the activities reached the whole UM Community resulting to a much enthusiastic participation coming from the different organizations and
students who posted their entries. When asked about the student’s ability to recognize the goodness despite the difficulties experienced through the said event, Adrian Saturinas, the President of the CSO answered positively. “Yes, it did. One activity, the Throwback Time asked students to post a picture of them with their classmates and friends which showcased their moments inside the campus and I really saw how this activity encouraged everyone to see the goodness despite the crisis. I also saw their excitement to go back to the normal set-up of classes,” Saturinas explained. During the Culmination day, Ms. Evelyn Canque known as the “Ang Fast and Furious Prof ng College of Ac-
counting Education” was announced Winner of the Teacher Surprise at Home activity who received a Christmas package from Globe. Moreover, Mas Amicus won the University Carol Competition and bagged 5,000 pesos worth of GCash and another 30 victors of the Throwback time received 250 pesos still, via GCash which can be seen and accessed through the official page of the University. “The only problem was the signal between the organizer and the students, and we could not avoid the technical problems, but the goal was really achieved. The organizing team was worried regarding the likes and participation but in the end, the event was a success,” Ma’am Joyce Laspoña stated, the Student Engagement Coordinator.
