Financial Aid

SENIOR

PARENT

February is financi al aid mont h!

Now is the time to get busy filing those financial aid documents. Start with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is a must for financial aid consideration. This is a FREE government form, so if you are asked to pay, you are using the wrong site. Please use this tutorial for assistance in navigating this often cumbersome process. Of course, if you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Don’t forget about community based scholarships. These can be used at any school of your choice. Create an account at www.fastweb.com and be sure to check Haiku for opportunities that come through our office.

Be mindful that most schools require an enrollment deposit to confirm that the student is attending . Many schools also require a separate housing deposit. Often, these deposits can be partially refundable if the student requests them back in writing prior to May 1st. A student should never have two deposits pending at a school, so be sure that you alert the institution of any changes in your intent to enroll.

Final transcripts are required, so keeping those grades up is critical

Our last senior parent meeting will be held in April. Be on the lookout for a Save the Date!

Mid-Year Grade Reports Many schools require updated transcripts at semester. I sent those for the students based on the applications that they submitted in the fall. If a student is no longer interested or has withdrawn the application, please let me know and I will make the correction. Otherwise, mid-year reports will be sent to all schools that require them without an additional request.

Be sure that you let colleges know if you are not planning to attend.

College Visits  

Be sure that you send a

Last day for excused college visits is March 20th.

note to let

For days to be excused as a college visit students must have completed each of the following steps:

know that

colleges

you will not be attending.

- Turned in a parent note - Completed the teacher signature form. - Submitted verification from the college of the visit.

Final Transcripts I will send final transcripts to the school that your child has let me know that they plan to attend. I will also send final transcripts for all students who have registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse. If you need transcripts for summer school, your child will need to complete a transcript request form.

Final transcripts are not available until after graduation. To be final they must include a graduation date and cannot be released until after that date. I will prepare them for mailing prior to graduation and mail them on the 21st. You will be able to use the copies that I mail for unofficial uses, including sorority rush.

This semester will be the best yet! Enjoy it!! - Mary
