BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Lower school received a check for $4,350.35 in December from Box Tops to close out the 2012 year. We will receive our next check in the Spring. I am so proud of all the students and parents for their continued support of the box top program. The program continues to grow and the kids love it! This year the individual top student winner has received a $10 gift card from Cold Snap and the top class winner has been given an ice-cream party. It is always exciting to find out the winners!! Labels for Education has also grown into a great program. We currently have over 10,000 points in this program. Labels for Education gives you point credits to use toward purchases in their catalog. The catalog is filled with wonderful educational products we can use in our school. Please keep collecting and continue to ask your friends and family to help you collect labels and box tops. Our last collection date for this school year will take place on Thursday, May 16th under the stadium in the Parents’ Association room after lower school morning carpool. If you would like to volunteer to help count or need additional information regarding these programs, please contact Karen Brock at kbrock@bellsouth.net or visit www.btfe.com or www.labelsforeducation.com.

This portion of the flower show will feature a myriad of visual interpretations of southern literary works using predominantly natural materials. Kate Chopin’s novel The Awakening will serve as our inspiration. Set in Grand Isle, Louisiana, at the end of the 19th century, the novel takes place on a Gulf coast barrier island and evokes the world of the Creole culture of New Orleans and environs. Be sure to look for UMS-Wright’s first entry in the festival, March 21-24, 2013.

UMS-WRIGHT GIRLS’ GOLF TEAM The UMS-Wright Girls’ Golf team has a new focus this season. Over the past six seasons, the girls have gotten one step closer each year to the state tournament. Last season, top golfer Mariah Stewart advanced to the sub-state round of post-season play. Only three golfers rounded out the 2012 team, but seven girls qualified for competition. Coach Hoffman and her team are gearing up for a full 14-date schedule. They will be playing twelve 9-hole matches and have added two 18-hole tournaments for the first time. The girls are working hard to knock strokes off their individual games and have resolved to truly be a force this season. Their focus…a trip to Muscle Shoals, Alabama and a spot in the state finals. You can follow their progress on the UMS-Wright website by following the athletics link to the girls’ golf page. Good luck ladies, and GO DAWGS!!!
