CUM LAUDE SOCIETY TAPS NEW MEMBERS The UMS-Wright Chapter of the Cum Laude Society inducted twelve students during the induction ceremony held January 31, 2013. Cum Laude was founded in 1906 and serves to recognize outstanding academic achievement in secondary education. The UMS-Wright Chapter is one of only three in Alabama. The society recognizes 382 chapters in the United States and abroad. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude is the most prestigious of all the UMS-Wright honor societies.

_____Holiday Beautification Chairman - Coordinates and directs the decoration of the campus at holiday time, just before/after Thanksgiving break, depending on the holiday calendar. _____Outdoor Beautification Chairman - Responsible for planting and maintaining outdoor flower beds and garden containers around campus. (Especially important prior to Homecoming, Open House and Graduation.) _____Box Tops Chairman – Monthly collection of Lower School Box Tops for reimbursement. _____Bulldog Run Chairman – Coordinates all aspects of the Bulldog Run held in the winter. _____Faculty, Administration and Staff Appreciation Chairmen - Please circle preference: Lower, Middle or Upper School – Coordinate a luncheon at school for teachers prior to the beginning of classes; coordinate volunteers who provide snacks in the faculty lounge one time per month and during exams; purchases end of the year appreciation gifts for the faculty.

_____Graduation Chairman - Coordinates the decorations for the Graduation ceremony and reception; also responsible for coordinating the refreshments at the Graduation reception.

_____Grandparents’ Day Chairman - Coordinates the receptions following the Lower School Grandparents’ Day musicals and art exhibits.
Online Auction begins Thursday, March 14 at 8:00 a.m. and closes Tuesday, March 19 at 10:00 p.m. All items will be included in the Online Auction. The website is http://auctions.readysetauction.com/ums-wright. The Preview Event is being held in lieu of the Evening Gala and admission is free. Tickets for the Tuition Credit Drawing can be purchased for $50 each.
_____Historian – Responsible for taking pictures at major Parents’ Association events and compiling a scrapbook. _____Homecoming Chairman - Coordinates and oversees volunteers who share responsibilities for the events during Homecoming week. _____Homecoming Committee - Assists Homecoming Chairman with events the week of Homecoming. _____Hospitality Chairman - Coordinates food and decorations for special assemblies. _____Lower School Book Fair Chairman - Coordinates and oversees volunteers who assist with the Lower School Library Book Fair. _____Lost and Found – Helps manage the Lost and Found room. _____New Student Liaison - Works with the administration to coordinate events to make new students feel welcome. _____Open House - Coordinates volunteers, food and decorations at the annual UMSWright Open House, held on a Sunday afternoon in the fall. _____Parents’ Association Room Manager – Oversees and organizes the proper storage of items in the Parents’ Association Room. _____Program Chairman– Responsible for the refreshments and “Thought for the Day” at the Parents’ Association meetings. _____Puttin’ on the Dawg Chair - Coordinates and oversees the spring fundraiser. _____Puttin’ on the Dawg Committee - Various positions to help with POD. _____Publicity and Website Manager - Responsible for reporting Parents’ Association news in the newsletter, Bulldog Prints; placement of the reminder meeting banners; and, maintains in coordination with the Development Office, the Parents’ Association page on the website. _____Used Uniform Sale Chairman - Responsible for coordinating the Used Uniform Sale held prior to the beginning of each school year; also responsible for maintaining the used uniforms in the Parents’ Association Room. _____Used Uniform Sale Co-Chairman - (move-up position) Assists Used Uniform Sale Chairman.

COUNTY WIDE SPELLING BEE The Mobile County Spelling Bee was held on Friday, February 1 and included 60 participants from 60 different schools in Mobile. Our own Marcelle Ellis (6th grade) was the UMS-Wright participant and placed in the top 10. Thank you, Marcelle, for representing our school and making us proud!
