Mardi Gras 2015

at UMS-Wright

UMS-Wright reveled in the spirit of Mardi Gras this season. From our K4 parade to a Mardi Gras pep rally, our students, faculty and parents all joined in the fun. 6th grade exploratory band practicing for their upcoming concert.

Students are pictured here visiting with University of Alabama recruiter Julian Katz on January 30th. The purpose of these visits is for students to gain a better understanding of the academic programs, scholarships, and campus life each college offers.

K5 students, Cole Maurin, Ellie Gartman, Alex Barrera, and Mallie Hanes made necklaces, built puzzles, and decorated hats to commemorate the 100th day of school.

Mrs. Funk’s students are showing off their favorite Valentine’s Day treats.

Mrs. Passmore’s 2nd graders made the most of a rainy day. It looks like we have some future architects on our hands!

The Alabama Sports Writers Association named Troy Dixon the 4A Back of the Year. Robert Hope was named AL.com Coastal Alabama’s Male Runner of the Year.

GEOGRAPHY BEE

Virtual Learning Mrs. Calhoun’s Virtual Learning students are proud to show off their certificates of completion!

The UMS-Wright Geography Bee was held on January 21st. Nathaniel Coleman (6th grade) won first place and Sophie Martino (8th grade) placed second.

Janie Chow placed first in the classical category at the NATS competition held at the University of Alabama.

Riley Nolan is pictured here with Dr. Havard receiving his certificate of acceptance to the United States Military Academy. Riley reports for duty in late June.


Students in our Community

Junior Optimist Club members, Katie Holston and Shelby Burton volunteered at the Sybil H. Smith Family Village.

JoJo Feinstein is currently working on his Eagle Scout Certification. This rank is the most prestigious and difficult to obtain. For his Eagle Scout Project, he plans to build 8 picnic tables and donate them to UMS-Wright. Ben Maples received the DAR Good Citizen Award. Ben is pictured here with Melinda Wood, the DAR representative and his parents Nancy Jo and Mark Maples.

Students Give to Our Community

Hannah McFarland has made a name for herself in the Mobile Bay area. Hannah has been spotted playing the guitar and singing at local spots including Moe’s Original BBQ, Bluegill, and others.

The Middle School collected a variety of items for Homeless Connect. Pictured left to right holding some of the boxes are Matthew Taylor, Jackson Graham, and Pearson Ikner.

Brandon Gibson ‘07 Gibson came back as a guest WoW Speaker in January. He delivered a very inspirational speech about leadership to our Middle and Upper School students.
