When I attended my first UMW Theatre audition, I had no idea what doors would open for me. I have been blessed with the opportunity to grow in my confidence whilst singing and storytelling in Klein Theatre. I have grown in my self-confidence, and, with the help of my professors here, I feel comfortable with dreaming big!”

When you join us in Klein Theatre, you take on an important role in our work. As a member of our audience, you also contribute to the dialogue that is essential to theatre—your presence is vital to our students’ training. Over time, you see our students grow into young artists, technicians, and arts administrators who will one day leave us ready to join the professional world. We could not do what we do without you.
We have a dazzling collection of plays and musicals to share with you in the coming months. We launch our season with Reginald Rose’s timeless Twelve Angry Jurors —a story that continues to probe issues of justice today as it did more than six decades ago. From there, we peek in on the Little Sisters of Hoboken in Dan Goggin’s musical Nunsense as the sisters put on a fundraiser to overcome a culinary calamity of eternal significance. In February, we examine The Crucible through the lens and experiences of a group of high school students in Kimberly Belflower’s rabble-rousing John Proctor is the Villain. Finally, we close out the year with the enchanting musical Peter Pan fantasy prequel, Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elice and Wayne Barker.
And a great tradition continues as we take you back out on the road! Join us for our ever-popular UMW Theatre Road Trip and see terrific theatre in Washington, DC—let us do the driving and parking!
Broadway Weekend returns in 2025 with a sensational Big Apple itinerary—pack your bags and board the train for NYC! We make experiencing theatre easy—in Fredericksburg, Washington, DC, and New York City!
Don’t miss your chance to join our season passholder community. We guarantee your seats, give you unlimited exchanges, and promise the lowest ticket price available with your Season Pass—this is a deal you won’t want to miss. Many of our performances sell out and season passholders get the best seats before single tickets go on sale.
We look forward to welcoming you in Klein Theatre for what promises to be a brilliant season ahead.

Twelve Angry Jurors
by Reginald Rose
ADAPTED BY Sherman L. SERGEL
In the stifling jury deliberation room, twelve individuals wrestle with the weight of a decision that will affect the life of a young man forever. As the jurors engage in heated debate, they reveal their biases, experiences, and fallibility in the rarely seen process at the very core of the American judicial system. Reginald Rose invites the audience to explore every shade of gray while these men and women navigate their civic duty and sense of morality, questioning the complex spectrum of guilt and innocence. Twelve Angry Jurors probes the collective conscience, leaving behind echoes of doubt and contemplation long after the curtain descends.

NUNSENSE
bY Dan Goggin
When the culinarily challenged Sister Julia, Child of God, unintentionally poisons her fellow sisters with tainted soup, only five Little Sisters of Hoboken remain to carry on their cloister’s mission. Get your ticket for this biblical journey of musical proportions (or something like that) as these nutty nuns take you along on their nunconvent-ional misadventures trying to raise the funds to lay their fallen sistren to eternal rest. Don’t miss this divine delight that has been entertaining audiences worldwide for over 40 years. If you haven’t been to the theatre lately, get back in the habit because Nunsense is a nun-stop fun revival that will have you rolling in the aisles laughing at the Little Sisters’ shenunigans.

John Proctor Is The Villain
by Kimberly Belflower
What if the hero of The Crucible were actually the villain? An innovative and powerful new voice in the theatrical landscape, Kimberly Belflower flips the script on Arthur Miller’s classic play and examines the license and agency of the young women at the center of the Salem witch trials. Set in present-day rural Georgia, this play follows a group of high school students as they grapple with their own secrets, scandals, and identities. A provocative (sometimes witty) and timely exploration of gender, history, and truth, John Proctor is the Villain will challenge your assumptions, spark deep conversation, and ignite your imagination.

Peter And The Starcatcher
by Rick Elice Music by Wayne Barker
Travel with us on a whimsical journey to the Neverland you never knew in this thrilling musical fantasy filled with swashbuckling adventure and enduring love. Based on the best-selling novels by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, this magical prequel reveals how a nameless orphan boy became the immortal Peter Pan. With the help of Molly, a fearless and clever Starcatcherin-training, he must protect the magical Starstuff from the clutches of the evil pirate Black Stache and his crew of loathsome mates. A kaleidoscope of wit, wonder, and wordplay, Peter and the Starcatcher is a tapestry of imagination woven from threads of longing, courage, and the ache of growing up.

Give To THEATRE
Help us help them!
When you join us for a performance, you are a part of our students’ educational journeys. Without an audience in the theatre, they cannot have the conversation that our plays and musicals inspire. You play an important role in helping them to develop as young theatre artists. Producing theatre and creating learning opportunities are costly endeavors. We want to do everything we can to bring in guest artists to help our students gain new perspectives and to network in the professional world. We want to support them when they have a chance to go to a national conference or to audition for summer theatre. We want to be sure we can help them produce plays in Studio 115 where they grow in the skills and knowledge they get in our classrooms and studios. Many of our students struggle to make ends meet with tuition, room and board, books, and supplies. We want, more than anything else, our students to be fully focused on their work in order to be the strongest they can be when they leave UMW.This is critical in order for them to be competitive when they seek their first job after graduation. We are committed to doing everything we can to support our students. We hope you will partner with us to provide what our students need to succeed at UMW. Won’t you consider joining UMW Theatre and supporting our talented students?
I feel so welcome within UMW Theatre—from working in the costume shop, to acting in shows, to helping with promotions, to learning in my classes with peers and professors. This is truly an amazing community that I am so proud to be a part of and can’t wait for the years to come making theatre here.”

The opportunities I have had with UMW Theatre have been priceless. I have gained so much hands-on experience working all over the department, on stage, in the management office, and in the shop. The supportive and well-rounded program has made me feel confident in my ability to succeed outside of UMW in whatever I do.”
