HEAD COACH STEPHANIE RADECKI

Stephanie Radecki enters her 12th season at he helm of the UNA volleyball program after taking over head coaching duties in February of 2004. She owns a 244-132 record at UNA with 255-151 career mark. In her first seven seasons, the former UNA graduate assistant coach won three Gulf South Conference championships, one NCAA South Central Region championship and a berth in the 2006 National Championship match. She has also led the Lions to six appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. During her tenure with the Lions, Radecki has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) regional Coach of the Year twice and GSC East Division Coach of the Year three times. She has also coached players who have won all-conference honors 33 times, with 20 allregion selections and seven All-Americans. Radecki’s 2006 team went 35-6 and gave the school its first Elite Eight appearance since 2003. After winning their third straight GSC championship, the Lions went on to claim the South Central title, including a win over top-ranked and regional host Truman State in the semi-finals on Nov. 10. UNA downed Central Missouri 3-0 in the regional championship match, then defeated Ashland and West Texas A&M at the Elite Eight in Pensacola, Fla. UNA lost to Tampa in the national championship match to finish the season at the 2006 national runner-up. The 2005 season proved to be one of the best ever in the Lions’ storied program. UNA went 36-2, breaking or tying 18 team and individual records at the school, conference and national levels. Along the way, the Lions knocked off five ranked opponents, including top-ranked Truman State 3-1 on Sept. 10. The Lions climbed as high as No. 3 in the AVCA national rankings and finished the season ranked ninth. In 2004, her first season as UNA's head coach, Radecki helped guide the Lions to a 24-7 overall record and a berth in the south central regional. She also helped the team regain the GSC championship as the Lions went 11-1 in conference play and swept Harding in the tournament final. Radecki came to UNA after one season as head coach at Saint Leo (Fla.) University in 2003. She inherited a program that won the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship and filled the vacancy left by former Lion Coach Matt Peck, who resigned to become head coach at Division I Middle Tennessee. A 1998 graduate of Edinboro University (Pa.), Radecki earned a Bachelor of Science

STEPHANIE RADECKI degree in Health and Physical Education and was an outside hitter for four years on the school's volleyball team. She was chosen Female Athlete of the Year at Edinboro once, was Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a senior and was chosen All- PSAC and All-Atlantic Region twice. She was also a team captain. Edinboro made two Elite Eight appearances while she played there and

captured two Atlantic Region crowns and one conference championship. Radecki then served as a student assistant coach for one year at Edinboro as the team won the league championship and lost in the region championship match. Since leaving Edinboro, Radecki continues to secure honors from the school. In 2006, she was named to the program’s All-Time Volleyball Team. Two years later, she was selected to the 2008 class of the Edinboro Athletic Hall of Fame. Radecki came to UNA as a graduate assistant coach in 1998 to complete work on her master's degree in health, physical education and recreation and exercise science. She helped UNA to and 11th place national ranking in 1998 and a No. 12 ranking in 1999. She also coached four All-Americans at UNA and helped the Lions to two Gulf South Conference titles, two NCAA Division II South Region crowns and two Elite Eight appearances. Her next coaching stop was at Augustana (S.D.) College in 2000 where she assisted in all aspects of the nationally prominent Division II program. Augustana won the North Central Conference championship, the North Central Region championship and reached the title match in the Elite Eight before losing in 2000. That team finished 30-4. In 2001, Augustana finished the year ranked No. 14 in the nation and lost in the semifinals of the North Central Region. Radecki coached three All- Americans, including the 2000 National Player of the Year, during her three seasons at Augustana.

COACHING STAFF After her playing career, she spent five years on the staff at Auburn where she earned her master’s degree in health and human performance in 1997. She helped the Tigers compile a 98-52 overall record with the Southeastern Conference Western Division regular season title in 1997. Five Tigers earned All-SEC honors, including Freshman of the Year and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) District IV honoree Janelle Hamilton. McCall joined the ISU program as an assistant coach in 2000 and worked three years in Ames before the brief stint at Gardner-Webb.

Assistant Coach

JENNIFER McCALL Jennifer McCall enters her sixth season as assistant volleyball coach at North Alabama. The Littleton, Colo., native has 17 years of coaching experience, including time as head coach at the NCAA Division I level. The former collegiate standout most recently served as head volleyball coach at North Carolina-Wilmington, where she spent five seasons at the helm of the program. Prior to her stop at UNCW, McCall served one season as associate head coach at Gardner-Webb University. She previously spent three years as assistant coach and associate head coach at Iowa State. She also served five seasons at Auburn as an assistant, the first two as a graduate assistant before moving into the assistant role her final three seasons with the Tigers. In 2008, UNCW earned the Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award after the program posted a combined grade point average above 3.30 for the third consecutive year. In addition, six of her players averaged a GPA of 3.6 or higher, giving the Seahawks more than 30 Dean’s List honorees during her four seasons. McCall also enjoyed an outstanding playing career at Florida State. A setter, she still ranks fourth all-time with 2,888 career assists, and her 1,452 assists during the 1993 season rank third on the singleseason list. McCall was the starting setter on FSU’s co-championship team in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1992 and was voted Team MVP in 1993. A three-time team captain and member of the league’s All-Academic Team, McCall earned the Golden Torch Award from 1991-93 for posting the team’s highest grade point average and earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1994.

Athletic Trainer

ANNA HARRISON Anna Harrison is in her first season as graduate assistant athletic trainer at North Alabama. She serves as the primary trainer for the UNA volleyball team. Harrison is a 2015 graduate of LSU. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in health and human performance at UNA.

Assistant Coach

CRISTIN HAINES Cristin Haines enters her fifth season in the volleyball program at North Alabama. After spending two years as a graduate assistant, she earned her master's degree in business at UNA in 2013 and remained on staff as assistant coach. She came to UNA from Georgia Southern where she was a defensive specialist/libero for two years and was a student coach for the NCAA Division I Eagles. In two seasons at GSU, Haines totaled 995 digs. Her 518 in 2008 was the third-highest single-season total in school history while her 477 the following season was the fourth-best ever in the program. She also averaged 4.28 digs per set in 2008 to rank third all-time in the school's singleseason record book. Haines spent the 2010 on the GSU coaching staff as the Eagles won the Southern Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Defending GSC Tournament champion Valdosta State was picked second, while North Alabama (65 points) was the coaches’ third favorite team. Shorter (59 points), the 2014 GSC Regular Season champions, was selected fourth. Picked fifth was Christian Brothers (49 points), followed by Alabama Huntsville (45 points). LIONS CLAIM 2003 NCAA VOLLEYBALL TITLE

The University of North Alabama volleyball team's 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship was an unlikely end to a season that began with great promise but appeared to be headed for an unexpectedly quick end. UNA had boasted one of the most powerful collegiate volleyball programs in the nation over the last eight years, making eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances and going to three Elite Eights. But entering the 2003 NCAA Tournament, the Lions had lost seven matches. That was a loss total the Lions had only seen once since 1995. UNA had also failed to win the Gulf South Conference championship for the first time in eight years, losing in the championship match to Harding. UNA had also fallen out of the Division II poll during the 2003 season, ending a streak of being ranked in 83 consecutive polls. The Lions entered the 2003 post-season ranked No. 23 in the nation. Despite the odds, UNA rolled through six NCAA Tournament matches undefeated and claimed not only the first volleyball national championship in school history but also the first national title ever won by a UNA women's athletic team. It was also the first NCAA volleyball title for a school from the state of Alabama or the Gulf South

Conference. First UNA avenged its GSC Tournament loss to Harding, routing the Lady Bisons 3-0. The Lions then destroyed host Truman State 3-0 before claiming the South Central Region title with a 3-2 win over Central Missouri State. At the Elite Eight in San Bernardino, Calif., UNA beat Lock Haven 3-2 in the quarterfinal, then beat Grand Valley State 3-1 to advance to the championship match. In the finals it was all UNA as the Lions defeated

Concordia-St. Paul 3-0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-22) for the national title. UNA closed the season at 33-7. In addition to head coach Matt Peck being named Division II Coach of the Year, seniors Yana Ninova and Ashley Moffitt were named to AllAmerica teams. It was the third time in four years for Moffitt to earn All-America honors, while Ninova made All-American for the second time. The duo both earned All-GSC and All-South Central Region honors for the fourth consecutive year and played on Lion teams that posted a combined 135-19 record.

Senior Te'Jaye Redd was named honorable mention All-American and was also an All-GSC and All-South Central Region pick. Coach Matt Peck departed following the conclusion of the season but his legacy at UNA includes a 312-61 record over nine seasons, seven Gulf South Conference championships, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, four regional titles and one Division II National Championship.

UNA INDIVIDUAL HONORS North Alabama outside hitter Megan Gorey racked up several individual awards during the 2014 season. The Fort Walton Beach, Florida native earned first team All-Gulf South Conference honors. She was also a four-time GSC Offensive Player of the Week and added All-South Region honors from Daktronics and the AVCA. UNA libero Ashtyn Kapovich was also named the league's Freshman of the Week on Sept. 9 and Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29. She was later named the 2015 GSC Freshman of the Year.

Jones Jersey Retired In 1984, University of North Alabama's Doris Jones became the first female athlete to receive All-GSC honors for three straight years. A three-year letterman from 1982-84, Jones also became the first UNA female athlete to have her jersey retired.

LION ALL-AMERICANS THREE LIONS ACHIEVE RARE DOUBLE: All-America and Academic All-America

Earning All-America status in any sport is a rare accomplishment for an athlete, and even fewer can take it a step further and achieve All-America standing in the classroom as well. But a trio of former University of North Alabama standouts were able to earn both awards in the same year. Ronda Price was named All-American in 1997 and was Academic AllAmerica in 1997 and 1999. Twin sister Rachel Price achieved All-American status in 1998 and 1999 and was an Academic All-America pick both seasons as well. Most recently, UNA standout Vanessa Ferretti received both All-America and Academic All-America honors as a senior in the 2005 season.

LIONS VOLLEYBALL HISTORY

The volleyball program at the University of North Alabama began in 1969 as a part of the Physical Education Department and was known as extramurals. In those early years the Lady Lion teams competed against all of the state schools as a member of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. UNA competed in the Northern District with Jacksonville State, Alabama A&M, Montevallo, Southern Benedictine and Stillman. In 1975, in the seventh year of volleyball competition at the school, UNA claimed the Alabama State Championship. downing the University of Alabama 1-15, 15-12, 15-6 in the championship match for the title. The Lady Lions downed Troy State, Auburn and Montevallo in the preliminary matches before dumping Alabama. Don McBrayer, a physical education instructor with the university then and now, served as the head coach for that first championship squad. Lillian Goodlow, a standout in basketball and volleyball at Bradshaw High School in Florence, became the first female athlete to be awarded an athletic scholarship to UNA in the summer of 1976. Another major step came in 1982, when the Gulf South Conference began awarding championships in women’s sports. The UNA volleyball team claimed the first official league title for women with a 3-0 sweep of Jacksonville State in the championship match. The Lady Lions hosted the tournament and won all six of their matches en route to the championship. UNA added to that GSC tradition by winning six of the first seven GSC volleyball championships, claiming the crown in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 as well. Three Lady Lion volleyball players, Julie Jones, Shea Lindley and Pasola Swoope, were members of four consecutive GSC championship teams each during their playing days at UNA. Also on the list of key builders of the UNA volleyball tradition is Ande Jones, who was a four-year letterman in the 1970’s, was an All-State member of the 1975 state championship team, then returned as a graduate coach in 1976 and as a full-time coach from 1979-94. In 1995, Matt Peck was hired as the Lions head volleyball coach, and in nine years he took

the UNA program to the highest national level, with eight NCAA appearances, four trips to the Elite Eight, two Final Fours and the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship. In 1996 Peck led the Lions to a 44-4 record that included the school's seventh GSC championship and the first ever NCAA Tournament appearance by a school from the state of Alabama. In 1997 Ronda Price and Mariela Fasce were named second-team AVCA AllAmericans to become the school's first volleyball All-Americans. In addition, Price was a secondteam CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-America selection, making her the first athlete in school history to earn both All-America and Academic All-America honors. As a team, UNA claimed its second consecutive GSC Tournament title and earned its second NCAA Regional bid as well. North Alabama became the first school

Also Mariela Fasce became the first volleyball player in conference history to be selected firstteam All-American. In 1999, UNA went 35-7, won its fourth straight GSC title and made its fourth straight NCAA appearance, advancing to the Elite Eight for a second time. Lana Fishback, Deja Trojan, Rachel Price and Ronda Price were members of four consecutive GSC championships, four straight NCAA Tournament berths and earned two straight trips to the NCAA Elite Eight by winning two NCAA South Central Regional championships. From 1996-1999 the "Fab Four" compiled a record of 156-22 and 47-1 in the GSC.

FLOWERS HALL

Flowers Hall has served as the home of the University of North Alabama volleyball team since it opened its doors in 1972, and has been an important part of the Lions success story. The 3,800 seat facility has hosted numerous state and Gulf South Conference tournaments over the years , and was the scene for the first-ever GSC volleyball tournament in 1982, where UNA captured the league's first women's sports championship.  In 1996, Flowers Hall was the site of the first-ever NCAA women's volleyball tournament played in the state of Alabama as UNA hosted the NCAA Division II South

Home of the Lions

Central Regional.  UNA has hosted the event a total of four times, winning it at home in 1998 and 2000 before coming up short in 2005.  Flowers Hall has also hosted three NBA basketball games in the 1970s and has hosted numerous NCAA tournament events in both men's and women's basketball.  In 1985 the original synthetic floor was relaced with a new synthetic floor. Also, in that same year a new four-sided scoreboard was added to enhance the Lion’s home court. In 1989 new theater seating was

installed on the home side for seasonticket holders. In 2004 the maple wood floor was replaced, as were the scoreboards and scorers tables that had been used over the previous 10 years. In 2009, new additions to the scoreboards allowed fans to keep track of digs, kills and assists during volleyball play. The flooring was sanded and repainted in 2013, adding the new UNA athletic logo at center court. UNA went 11-1 at home last season and has gone 225-42 at home since 1995.

LEO III AND UNA UNA once again boasts the only live Lion mascots in the country living on campus. On July 22, 1974, former UNA president Dr. Robert M. Guillot brought a 35‑pound lion cub to the campus and Leo spent the next 14 years “roaring” the school to victory. The original Leo died on Jan. 20, 1988, and a great outpouring of support from the Shoals community resulted in Leo II being brought to UNA in July of 1988. Leo II lived in the compound that once housed the original Leo and grew to a weight of more than 600 pounds at eleven years of age. In 1997, Leo II was selected as the nation's "Second Best Mascot" by Sports Illustrated. He died in February of 2000. Leo III and Una, born on November 18, 2002, now reside on the campus in the 12,764 square-foot George H. Carroll Lion Habitat. Approaching their eighth birthdays, Leo III and Una are exhibited seven days a week from approximately 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. (weather conditions permitting), unless they are appearing in local venues. All funds associated with the care and feeding of Leo III and UNA, the operation of their habitat, and the conduct of a related educational program are funded exclusively by charitable contributions.

The University of North Alabama, established in 1830 as LaGrange College, became, in 1872, the first state-supported teachers college south of the Ohio Riverand one of the first co-ed colleges in the nation. UNA has developed into a regional university providing quality educational opportunities for students from the three-state region of Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. North Alabama’s academic role has expanded through the years. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in majors in the colleges of arts and sciences, business, education and nursing and allied health. Pre-Professional preparation for medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, law, agriculture and forestry, engineering, veterinary medicine, medical technology and other allied health professions is offered. Various master’s degrees are offered in the arts and sciences, edication and business fields. North Alabama was the first major university to offer a four-year degree program in commercial music. Majors have interned in record industry offices in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, London, Stockholm, and nearby Muscle Shoals. That program has since been expanded with the development of the UNA Entertainment Industry Center and the addition of an entertainment industry management major. UNA is one of 11 schools nationwide offering an undergraduate degree in industrial hygiene. Foreign language, nursing, business, and science students also have opportunities to study abroad. Numerous faculty and staff members hold positions of distinction in various national, regional and state professional organizations. Many have written books and/or published articles in newspaper, magazines and professional journals. The Journal of Legal Economics is published at UNA. Various centers have been established at North Alabama to serve its constituency. Operated by faculty and staff, they give undergraduate and graduate students opportunities for research and public services. These centers include the Occupational and Environmental Health Laboratory. Its scientific research has attracted national and international attention in the health field. The Geographic Research Center, in cooperation with the National Geographic Society, has increased the profile of geography in the state and has opened doors for students to have hands-on participation

in maping and demographics research for various governmental agencies. Science faculty and students teach and study marine biology-related courses at Dauphin Island Sealab near Mobile, Alabama. North Alabama also houses the Northwest Alabama Education Research and Inservice Center, which provides inservice training for elementary and secondary educators in a six-county region. UNA has the only state university-operated kindergarten and grammar school, which affords education students a professional development laboratory experience in teaching. Serving a nine-County region, the Small Business Development Center provides information, counseling and assistance to small businesses or to people planning to start small businesses. The Rare and Endangered Species Research Center personnel are conducting research on several endangered species in the region. The Wellness Research and Service Center studies and develops wellness, exercise, nutrition, stress management, health education counseling and environmental support programs. The University of North Alabama works closely with various southern universities and many local, state and federal agencies on a myriad of projects and activities. Supporting the faculty are the extensive resources of the Collier Library system, which is also a federal records depository.

It is computerized and linked into various library loan research networks. Collier Library also houses several collections, including the television and film scripts and other works of actors Dr. George Lindsey and Dr. Ernest Borgnine. UNA has developed a national following in recent years with the development of the George Lindsey/UNA Television and Film Festival, which attracts several industry luminaries to camous. UNA students excel in academics, student activities and athletics. Often they are recognized nationally for their achievements in specific areas. In recent years , football and basketball teams have won national championships. UNA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The colleges of business, education and nursing are nationally accredited, while several departments in the College of Arts and Sciences are nationally accredited. The University of North Alabama’s alumni are equally successful. Among them are a Pultizer Prize winner for literature and one for editorial cartooning, two Alabama governors, a Texas governor, numerous members of the U.S. Congress, thousands of educators, national business and industry CEOs and internationally-renowed sculpter, a National Geographic photographer and special assistant to the President of the United States.

UNIVERSI TY P R E S I DE N T & B O A RD President Dr. Kenneth D. Kitts Dr. Ken Kitts became president of the University of North Alabama on March 30, 2015. As chief executive officer of UNA, he is responsible for all operations and activities on a beautiful and historic campus that serves more than 7,000 students. Dr. Kitts interacts routinely wiht community leaders and represents the university at a variety of regional, state and national events. Prior to joining UNA, Dr. Kitts worked at both Francis Marion University in South Carolina (1987-2011) and at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (20112015). At native of Waynesville, N.C., Dr. Kitts holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Appalachian State University, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of South Carolina. He also holds a post-graduate certificate from Harvard University's Institute of Educational Management. Dr. Kitts'

academic interest include the American presidency and national security policy. He is the author of an award-winning book on presidential commissions as well as numerous articles, book chapters and commintaries.

Dr. Kitts and his wife, Dena, are the proud parents of two boys, Colin and Corbin. The family lives in the President's Home on the UNA campus and are next door neighbors to Leo and Una, the two African lions that serve as the university's mascots.

We take pride in our 49 National Team Championships in 13 sports and more than 100 regional titles, especially because there is no sacrifice on the academic side, where GSC student-athletes graduate at a much higher rate than the general student body. The GSC demonstrated its overall depth in 2014-15 after all of 10 of its official members represented the league in the NCAA post-season. The GSC sponsors 17 sports, including 16 championship events. Official sponsored sports include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and volleyball. The Conference increased its sponsorship list in 2015-16, classifying women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s track & field as “emerging sports” and putting those programs on a path to future official sponsorship. In the summer of 1970, six college presidents met to discuss athletics and when the meeting ended, a new league emerged—the MidSouth Conference. Delta State, Florence State (now North Alabama), Jacksonville State, Livingston (now West Alabama), Tennessee-Martin (UTM) and Troy State (TSU) were the charter members, but scheduling problems for the 1970-71 academic year limited the Conference to only football. The Gulf South Conference and Nicholls State (NSU) joined in 1971 and the league opened an office in Hammond, La., changed its name to the Gulf South Conference and began championships in nine men’s sports. Mississippi College (MC) and Northwestern Louisiana (NWLA, now Northwestern State) joined in 1972 and two years later, NWLA left for Division I, followed by SELA and NSU in 1979. The conference continued with seven teams until 1981, when the CEOs admitted Valdosta State and West Georgia (1983). In 1991, UTM and TSU went Division I, briefly dropping the GSC back to seven members, but an aggressive expansion resulted in 10 new members: Lincoln Memorial (1992-93); Alabama Huntsville, Henderson State, Central Arkansas and Mississippi University for Women (MUW, 1993-94); West Florida (1994-95); and ArkansasMonticello, Arkansas Tech, Montevallo and Southern Arkansas (1995-96). Jacksonville State moved to Division I at the end of 1992-93. MC dropped to Division III at the end of 1995-96, and was replaced by Christian Brothers to keep the Conference at 16 schools. In July 2000, the GSC welcomed Harding University and Ouachita Baptist University, making it the largest NCAA-playing conference at any level with 18 schools. MUW dropped its athletics program at the end of the 2002-03 season, decreasing the membership to

17. Central Arkansas reclassified to Division I and Lincoln Memorial moved to the South Atlantic Conference following the 2006-07 year. Montevallo’s departure for the Peach Belt Conference dropped the number to 14 in 2009-10. The GSC moved away from divisional play after the 2010-11 season after its six Arkansas members broke away, dropping the membership to eight. The GSC implemented a fouryear expansion plan in 2012 resulting in the addition of Shorter University and Union University (2014-15), Lee University (2015-16) and the expected return of Mississippi College in 2016-17. The also created affiliate memberships to boast its ranks, resulting in sport-specific members, Florida Tech (football), Spring Hill College (men’s and women’s soccer and women’s golf), Montevallo (women’s lacrosse) and Young Harris College (women’s lacrosse). Former Commissioner Jim McCullough moved the GSC office to its current location in Birmingham, Ala. in 1979. Current Commissioner Matt Wilson is in his second year at the helm. He is assisted by Assistant Commissioner for Championships and Communications Michael Anderson, Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Special Events Andrea Anderson, Director of Engagement Michael Stagno and a newly created Director of Strategic Communications (to be determined). The Chair of the GSC Board of Directors is Dr. John Smarrelli (Christian Brothers). Joining him on the Executive Committee are Vice-Chair Dr. William LaForge (Delta State) and Past-Chair Dr. Judith Bense (West Florida). The Supervisors of Officials are Jeff Roberson (Football), John Caldwell (Basketball), Mike McCray (Baseball) and Eric Ackerman (Soccer).
