The beat of the waves. The startling light. The blur of sea and sky. The welcome glow through salty windows. The murmur of fervent conversations. St Ives’ siren call has drawn creatives, life-lovers and likeminds for generations. Many have been. Fewer have managed to leave. We heard the call too. It rallied us together, rooted our vision and shaped our thinking. It inspired us to imagine a new way. A different picture of how holiday homes in Cornwall should be. Built from those halcyon days we all cling to, Una St Ives captures the spirit of salt-caked skin and windswept skies — the irresistible memories that remain long after you’ve said goodbye. And it’s yours for the taking. You want your very own piece of Cornwall: your way. Where you feel at home and looked after, all at once. You want to be part of a likeminded community of friends, people who bring a smile to your face each time you pull up outside. You want to relish every moment you’re here and make memories that last until you return. And you don’t want to think about anything else. Other than where to watch the sunset. Or whether the wine’s chilled yet. Or if you’ll remember how to stand up on a wave. Or how to spend your rental income. We think you’ll like it here.

Arms welcome wind-blown cheeks and wave-tangled hair. Towels wrap tight around goose-pimpled bodies, as shoulders are rubbed back to life. Winding cobbles wandered for a hamper of treats. A cliff path conquered, a picnic rug thrown, and a plan hatched for an afternoon exploring. Shell-heavy pockets rattle, while shoes are tugged from toes. Seagull-coveted ice creams licked. Rock pools triumphed. Fishing lines taut. Chatter flows seamlessly as wet-footed wave dodgers lead to bathtubs coated in sand. Logs crackle, lighting up tired grins. Glasses clink and eyes meet. Through the streets of St Ives, along the cliff tops of the north coast, down the roll of Carbis Bay, to your front door. These days are yours.

It’s the memories that flood back as you pack your bag. It’s the sparkle in your eye as you wave goodbye to city living for a while, or the warm welcome you get from your neighbours. From wave catchers to craftsmen, healing hands to hearty appetites, Cornwall draws characters of all kinds — connected by sand, salt, sky and spirit. And where Cornwall imprints, Una St Ives treads...

meet

Arty Williams Stirring up the best of the sea, sourcing perfect produce, skimming across the water under sail; flavour artist and gourmand Arty Williams has Cornwall in his veins and a first-class culinary career to his name... Making the most of the water is important to me. It’s fantastic to get your head away from work and clear it out. I love just looking from water to land — getting that different perspective. I relish Cornwall in the winter. It’s beautiful and rugged. The coastal walk from Porthminster to the Tate in St Ives is the best of both worlds. You can go down to the rocks and be away from it completely, or go up the footpath and be right in town. I get bored easily so I don’t want to be miles away if I want to call it a day and stop for a pint. I’d recommend The Sloop — it’s a great local pub with lots of Cornish beers. I can’t wait to bring a taste of St Ives Bay fresh onto the plates of diners. Seasonal flavours that are right on our doorstep — whether it’s fresh from the rock pools or caught a couple of miles out. We’ll be sourcing and cooking everything we can find nearby — foraging from the coastal paths and using small, — local, artisan producers.

For me, Una St Ives is all about quality. Combining local insight with the absolute pinnacle of food and service. We’re setting up something unique here. Find Arty’s mouth-watering creations at The Cove, the heart of Life at Una St Ives.

Amanda Barlow Coast roamer, plant-seeker and founder of organic skincare company Spiezia, Amanda Barlow distils the essence of Cornwall to soothe the senses… Cornwall is all about the people and the quality of life. People are calm, relaxed, gentle. It’s a place where nature can be wild and powerful. Even on a rough, wet, rainy day I still feel really lucky to be living here. It’s freedom, space and the ability to be real. You don’t need to get on a plane to get away from it all. That’s why people are drawn to Cornwall. When you pass the border you can shrug off all the baggage you’ve got from where you live. Wandering around the tiny lanes and poking through the shops and artists’ studios — it’s my favourite thing to do. There’s something about not having a map and seeing what you find.

We’re bringing the very essence of Cornwall to Una St Ives through our original crafting of herbs and flowers in an artisan way. Our spa treatments are very holistic, and all of our ingredients are sourced within a 15-mile radius of St Ives. We centre on the Cornish mentality, an approach to life that’s about taking quality time out and catching your breath. Feel the benefit of Cornwall’s healing heritage and discover Amanda’s organic treatments at the Made for Life Spa, part of Life at Una St Ives.

meet

Richard Winfrey From training as a shipwright to cutting through the waves after work, for wood-craftsman, Cornwall-devotee and coast-clinger Richard Winfrey, the sea runs deep. To me, Cornwall means home. I can have a bad day in the office and within 20 minutes I’ll be on the water. That puts life into perspective. Being out there forgetting all about your worries. I call the Helford River my garden. The road from St Ives to Zennor and past the Gurnard’s Head is jaw dropping. It’s even more remote than most of Cornwall. I like it best when it’s rough and windy and wild. I also love driving right over the back: Gulval, Ding Dong Moor — it’s like you’re driving off a cliff. My skills originate in shipbuilding so I bring something of Cornwall’s heritage into everything I do. Working wood has been a part of life here for so long. We’re also working from small conceptual drawings, and then our promise is to turn around a finished article. We combine the determined spirit of the Cornish with a creativity that reflects the art scene here.

At Una St Ives, the designers have been very creative. It’s great that it’s been designed and built using high quality local businesses and local products. It’s a real showcase of what Cornwall does best. The enthusiasm of the people building their vision has gripped me. Planing his passion for Cornwall into every project, you’ll find Richard’s work in the bespoke fixtures that make Life at Una St Ives stand out.

meet

Harris Rothschild Wave aficionado and founder of St Ives Surf School, Harris Rothschild has searched the globe for waves, but his heart beats to St Ives’ rhythm. There’s no place like home... I don’t know what life’s like without the sea. I love Porthmeor – living and working there. You’re pincered by headlands on both sides and you have a great view back into the depths of the town, up to the moorlands. Sometimes it’s good to escape the crowds to a small beach locally too, like Porthkidney Sands, by the Hayle River. It can be beautifully quiet, even in August. The sense of community in St Ives grabs you. There’s a real notion of belonging, feeling connected, even if you’re only here for a short time.

The environmental ethos of Una St Ives has really impressed me. Being surfers we genuinely care about nature and respect it. To see a responsible approach from such a big project is so important. From catch-a-wave basics to expert surf training, kayaking to stand-up paddle boarding, the team from St Ives Surf School can help you make the most of the water, all year round.

Everyone’s a sucker for a sunset and the only place to watch it in St Ives is the Porthmeor Beach Café. I’d also recommend The Hub on the harbour for breakfast at sunrise.
