The concept of crisis management covers a wide range of complex situations and activities. Essentially it includes interventions designed to bring an end to armed conflict, to ensure the protection of civil populations, and create the conditions for reconstructing devastated areas. It combines and relies on both military and civilian means.

In the light of recent crisis around the world, what is the reality on the ground? When reacting, how effective is the “International Community”? How are such actions structured, organized and funded? How do national and regional interests impact on the decisions to intervene? These are just some of the key questions the panel discussion is expected to explore as speakers will give an overview of the complexity of the crisis management concept. Who? - Michel Liégeois, Professor at the UCL. - Antoine Gerard, Director OCHA Brussels. - Pamphile Sebahara, Head of Research and Training Department, Regional Centre on Democracy and Good Governance, International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR, Lusaka, Zambia)

The panel members will give short 10/15 minute introduction followed by a debate moderated by Tarek Mahmoud, journalist at the Middle East News Agency (MENA). When? 19 May 12.30-14.15 Where?
