THE UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM

Explore your potential. Experience the opportunities. Excel with the University Honors Program.

In UHP, you will find peers with similar motivations and goals who represent diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests.

[ UHP ] Students in the University Honors Program (UHP) share an interest in challenging themselves in the pursuit of an enriched, well-rounded education. UHP is much more than an academic endeavor; it is an interactive, dynamic, and engaging experience designed to support students in the classroom, on campus, in the community, and beyond. We offer resources and guidance to shape students as they move toward reaching their full potential. Our students enjoy the individualized attention they receive as members of a small, scholarly community within the setting of a large, urban research university.

As a student in UHP, your undergraduate experience will be far from mainstream. The University Honors Program provides its members with a comprehensive multi-year experience that combines an interdisciplinary with

community

curriculum

engagement

and

personal development. You will be part of a supportive community of exceptional faculty and energetic students who strive to broaden their perspectives and develop as scholar-citizens. The coupling of your potential and the opportunities provided by UHP will help you become a sought-after leader in a competitive pool of candidates entering into a career or graduate school.

[ THE EXPERIENCE

UHP is the oldest and largest honors program at UNC Charlotte with members from every major on campus.

[

“UHP set the bar high for my other classes. I love the smaller group setting that allows for constructive group discussions and debates. Additionally, it’s nice to walk into an honors class and realize that you already know someone (if not the entire class)!

[ ACADEMIC LIFE

The UHP curriculum serves as a complement to your major and provides flexibility so that you have time to engage in research, internships, and study abroad experiences tailored to your interests. You also have the option of joining other honors programs, if you desire. Honors classes provide a space for students to think critically, reflect, ask questions, and debate solutions. With an average honors class size of 16 students, discussion and active engagement between professors and students occurs naturally.

Honors courses expand learning beyond the classroom and into the community.

A signature feature of the UHP curriculum includes honors courses that center around subjects that are anything but ordinary. Offerings from recent semesters include: • A Brief History of Imagination

• The Constitutional Right of Privacy

• Mixed-Race Theory

• Intelligence Analysis

• Cult of Personality: Living in an Age of Media and Celebrity

• Reading in Slow Motion

• Ordering the World

• The Looming Pandemic: Antibiotic Resistance

• Italian Mafia Through Italian Film
