Letter from the Editor Hello all. I’m so happy to say that this issue of the Black Ink is PACKED with articles that will make you think and ponder a few things from the controversial Negro Dialect to the infamous New Year’s Resolutions to play-by-plays of the UNC Women’s Basketball Season! 2XU WKHPH IRU WKLV LVVXH LV ³UHÀHFWLQJ RQ WKH SDVW and looking forward to the future.” With that said, be prepared for some articles that might just challenge your perspective, enlighten your thoughts and of course, provide you with a great piece of journalism! This issue of the Black Ink also marks the third issue to be released during our 40th anniversary celebration, which is still mindboggling to me because who would have thought that something that started 40 years ago would continue to im- pact the UNC community. And I cannot forget to mention my staff mem- bers! I’m really proud of my returning staff as they continue to amaze me with their journalis- tic work, drive and dedication to the Black Ink. I would also like to give a warm welcome to my new staff members, who have been making their impact on the Ink in print and on the web with our blog! Thank you guys and gals for being a great staff and making this magazine come to life because I couldn’t have done it without you! Speaking of the web, the Black Ink Magazine now has a BLOG. Yes, I said it, a blog – we are moving on up in this technologically savvy world of communication! Visit uncblackink.tumblr. com to read about current issues affecting the UNC community through the eyes of the Black Ink. And since it’s the month of March, enjoy March Madness (even though the Tar Heels are having a tough season but that’s a whole other issue), spring cleaning and shopping and all the great things about UNC in the spring! Well folks, there’s not much more I can say but sit back, relax and have a good read! Peace and Love, Kirstin Garriss

The  attitudes  and  back- grounds  of  black  female  students  are  now  much  different  than  older  gen- erations.  Black  females  appreciate  the  impor- tance  of  the  preserva- tion  of  the  black  identity,  but  also  understand  the  value  of  multicultural  interaction.
