WELCOME FEST

September

Welcome fest had a new look and despite COVID-19 restrictions we had a really successful event. With loads of sign ups to our clubs, societies and volunteering projects.

ELECTIONS We held our Student Council Elections; ensuring you are well represented on an array of issues at Bangor University.

WASTE AWARENSS WEEK We take sustainability seriously and we were proud to take part in the week hosted by the University.

SHWMAE SU'MAE We've been encouraging you all to find your inner Welsh-person! Start off every conversation with Shw'mae or Su'mae!

INTERNSHIPS We hired two interns. The Period Poverty & Dignity intern and The Chaplaincy and Faith intern

STUDENT SAFETY We got involved with national lobbying for student safety on nights out. We boycotted the nightclubs and had a movie night instead and we held a march to stand against violence.


CULTURAL FAIR Our Cultural Fair is a chance to celebrate all the different cultures we have at Bangor. We held an evening of performances and food with an opportunity to meet our cultural societies.

CONNECT@BANGOR We've been helping to promote Connect@Bangor. They host Walk and Talk and The Mental Health Drop-in Sessions on Wednesday afternoons with the University Mental Health Advisors. All part of our work to promote positive mental health.

AU DODGEBALL The Athletic Union host multiple events throughout the year. AU Dodgeball was the first of the year and saw AU teams compete against each other at dodgeball, all while wearing fancy dress.

UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE We had a record breaking amount of auditionees for Bangor University's University Challenge team. We found our team and we're ready for BBC's Jeremy Paxman!

SURVEYS - ENHANCING YOUR STUDENT EXPEREINCE We've been asking you about your experiences at Bangor. This will help us to feedback to the University and lobby them to make changes that will effect your time at Bangor. This semester we wanted to know about belonging and inclusion.

MARTIAL ARTS DAY Our Martial Arts clubs demonstrated their art in a fun filled day at Academi nightclub!.

HOUSING We've been working with the University's Housing Department to ensure you have all the knowledge about signing for a student house. The do's and don't and the must-haves and the avoid-at-all-costs! We covered it all!

SOCIETIES PERFORMANCES Our Societies have been performing for our students throughout the semester. Bangor English Dramatics Society (BEDS) performed 'One Man, Two Guvnors' at Pontio in November!

INCLUSIVITY AWARENESS MONTH Our Mental Health Champion Student Councillor has been working on material to promote inclusivity and share information on how things can be made easier so that we can all be a bit more inclusive.

MINDFUL CHEF Food delivered to your door and an online-cookery demonstration to go with it! What's not to like!

TACKLING THE TABOO Men to come together to discuss the taboo that is mental health. Men often feel like they can't talk about mental health - and these sessions are here to change the narrative.

MOVEMBER Movember has been a spectacular month of fundraising and making a difference in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

We challenged our Mo Bros to grow some facial hair and our Mo Sisters to Move for Movember. Bangor students raised a staggering £6,214 with a huge £3,148.80 being raised by Bangor University Men's Football!

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES We've been busy providing our students with loads of volunteering opportunities; from hosting Tea Parties to helping future students improve their English skills.

THIS BANGOR GIRL CAN This Bangor Girl Can! A week full of activities to encourage women of any ability, any background, and any size and shape to participate in sport.

CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCES What's Christmas without a few performances? Our Societies and UMCB have been busy entertaining the masses with shows, and choir and orchestral performances

MANCHESTER CHRISTMAS MARKET We treated some of our students to a trip to the magical Christmas markets of Manchester.

LAUCHED THE SABB ELECTION 2022 One of our biggest and most important campaigns of the year. Our quest to find the next Sabbatical Officer team is vital for our future successes.

BEHIND THE SCENES Re-arranging Training after the Dome collapse Development meetings with clubs and societies Expanded storage for club equipment and kit Maintenance of club kit Looking into Laundry suppliers with hope to get the best systems across Halls next year. Ensuring marks don’t get released on a Friday and there is always someone to speak to about your results. Looking to explore how we build wider employability skills directly into the curriculum Internal Quality Reports for the School of Educational Sciences and School Medical and Health Sciences; including highlights and recommendations on how the schools could enhance the student experience. Raising concerns from students about not having enough time in lectures to cover the content set. We’ve provided some teams of course reps with funding to hold events. We’ve worked with the Uni to update the regulations around Fitness to Practice procedures to ensure students welfare and rights are protected. We’re working with the Uni to identify what skills and attributes students want to leave Uni with – and also going forward how these should be embedded into the curriculum. Improve the Welsh language provision available to prospective students on Open Days. We've been supporting a project to improve online Welsh-medium mental health provision. Representing Welsh Students' Unions and the Welsh language at the Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee in Welsh Parliament.
