Undeb Bangor Associate Membership Policy
This policy is to be read in accordance with Article B (2.1 – 2.2) of the Bangor University Students’ Union Constitution.
As a charity and democratically led membership organisation, Undeb Bangor directs funding and resources pre-dominantly for the benefit and development of the current members (the students of Bangor University). Associate Membership may be granted to non-Bangor University current students if the individual qualifies through the Undeb Bangor Associate Membership criteria.
1. Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Groups (Athletic Union, Societies and Student Volunteering Bangor) and Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor (UMCB)
1.1. Official Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Groups are those who have registered and been ratified by Undeb Bangor and have signed a group agreement in accordance with the Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Ratification Procedure
1.2. All Undeb Bangor ratified groups must comprise a majority of current Bangor University students
1.2.1.Must be no less than two thirds of the group’s member base as acknowledged through online membership system data.
1.2.2.This majority must apply at all times throughout the year
1.2.3.Groups will not be granted associate members unless this majority still applies with the acceptance of a new associate member
1.2.4.Associate Membership of UMCB shall be processed in accordance with this policy and should be included when ‘Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group’ is referenced.
2.1. Associate Membership as prescribed in Bangor University Students’ Union Constitution Article B (2.1-.2.2) allows for the Trustee Board to make provision for non-current Bangor University students to become a member of Undeb Bangor and obtain the following benefits:
2.1.1.Access to Undeb Bangor rooms for group activity, in line with room booking procedures
2.1.2.Ability to join any Undeb Bangor Club, Society or Volunteering group
2.1.3.Ability to Join UMCB
2.1.4.Further memberships to any other Club, Society or Volunteering Group will require a further charge.
2.1.5.Ability to attend Annual and General Meetings of Undeb Bangor and any democratic meetings held by the Athletic Union, Societies, Student Volunteering Bangor or UMCB.
2.1.6.Ability to make use of Undeb Bangor services and facilities as they are made available to them
2. Associate Membership2.2. Associate Membership does not allow the following:
2.2.1.The right to vote in any Undeb Bangor or Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group election
2.2.2.The right to hold a Undeb Bangor Sabbatical Officer or student representative role at Undeb Bangor
2.2.3.The right to access Bangor University spaces unless through a ratified Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group activity
2.2.4.The right to hold a Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group committee position
2.2.5.The right to attend Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group committee meetings
2.2.6.The right to participate in BUCS competitions
2.3. Associate Memberships are available to:
2.3.1.Alumni of Bangor University
2.3.2.Staff of Bangor University (this includes Undeb Bangor)
2.3.3.Current students of institutions in educational provision agreements with Bangor University (as defined by Bangor University)
2.3.4.Honorary Associate Members of Undeb Bangor
2.3.5.A member of the local Bangor community
2.4. Associate Membership is open to those under 18 but must be processed and supported in line with the Undeb Bangor Safeguarding Procedure and subject to additional scrutiny by an Undeb Bangor Sabbatical Officer and the Student Opportunities Manager
2.5. All current Lifetime or Honorary Associate Memberships shall be honoured
3. Honorary Associate Memberships
3.1. Honorary Associate Memberships are granted to individuals as nominated by Undeb Bangor Executive Committee
3.2. Honorary Associate Membership awards the nominated individual an automatic Associate Membership that is valid for life
3.3. Honorary Associate Membership does not automatically grant membership to any Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group and membership must be applied for as described in Associate Membership Application Procedure, with the following exceptions:
3.3.1.The President, Captain or Project Leader must submit an Associate Membership Form on behalf of the perspective Associate Member.
3.3.2.The perspective Associate Member will be required to provide information / proof of the Honorary Associate Membership and when it was awarded
3.3.3.Upon approval Honorary Associate Members will not be charged an Associate Membership fee
3.4. Honorary Associate Members are entitled to the benefits set out above in 2.1 and are bound by the restrictions set out in 2.2
4. Associate Membership Application Procedure
4.1. A perspective Associate Member (as described in 2.3) must apply for an Associate Membership directly through the Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group they wish to join.
4.2. Associate Membership may not be granted without the intent to immediately join an Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group
4.3. The President, Chair or Project Leader of the ratified Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group must propose an Associate Membership Application Form on behalf of the perspective member
4.4. Applications for Associate Membership will be considered on a case by case basis
4.5. Approval for an Associate Membership will be granted subject to the applicant satisfying the eligibility criteria
4.6. The relevant Undeb Bangor Sabbatical Officer and Student Opportunities Manager (or their nominated representative) shall review the application and communicate the decision to the proposer.
4.7. On approval (and if necessary) the relevant Associate Member Membership Fee shall be requested and be payable within 10 days of approval.
4.8. From time to time the Undeb Bangor Executive may waive the Associate Membership Fee for an individual who is supporting the development and growth of Undeb Bangor. This shall be at the discretion of the Undeb Bangor Executive and rationale shall be made available on request.
4.9. The Associate Membership Fee is paid for a full year between 1st September and 31st August. A pro rata adjustment may be charged for mid-year memberships (this must be discussed with the relevant Sabbatical Officer)
4.10. Associate members shall not make more than 25% of the group membership.
5. Associate Membership Fees
5.1. The following fees shall be payable for membership to the following:
5.1.1.Clubs in the Undeb Bangor Athletic Union - £55
5.1.2.Societies within Undeb Bangor Societies - £25
5.1.3.Volunteering Projects within Student Volunteering Bangor - £25
5.1.4.Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor - £15
5.2. Where relevant all monies paid in respect of Associate Membership to an individual Undeb Bangor Student Opportunities Group this shall be paid directly into their fundraising account.
5.3. On receipt of payment the Undeb Bangor Student Centre shall produce an Undeb Bangor Associate Membership Card, which shall be presented on entry into any Undeb Bangor space or event when requested.
5.4. The Associate Membership Fee is non-refundable once paid.
6. Breaches of this Associate Membership Policy
6.1. Any breach of this policy may result in disciplinary action in accordance with Bangor University Students’ Union Bye – Law 9: Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure and the Undeb Bangor Member Disciplinary Procedure.
6.2. Any complaints with regards to Associate Membership should follow the Bangor University Students’ Union Bye – Law 9: Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure.
