Improve library resources, study areas (including group study areas) & opening hours, allowing students 24hr access to these facilities. Encourage more inter-university competitions and opportunities with more funding, including an additional creative arts type Varsity in the spirit of the Welsh Eisteddfod, open for all students and societies to enter. Place more emphasis & funding towards Mental Health and Wellbeing support, ensuring equal and easy access for everyone in the university. Provide catch up practical sessions and hands-on experience for those who have missed out due to Covid, ensuring the university fulfils its original offer. Continue the University’s positive impact on the environment with more community projects, free open lectures for all students to attend. Update campus by phasing out Circuit laundry for halls and having more up to date maps around campus, online and in welcome packs including building floorplans. I am a current School Councillor (Mental Health Champion), Halls Mentor, AU Committee member and Course Rep at Bangor. This has given me the experience branching across lots of different areas of the university for me to go into this role with confidence.

SPORT An active Bangor AU member for 4 years, I’ve experienced 3 different Sport VP’s. I will build on the best of each, continuing our great University Athletic Union. I’m an active sportsman, proud to represent Bangor, with personal experience and understanding of what we’ll return to and a desire to achieve more. My experience within our AU is wide ranging, from Fresher’s week and Serendipity as a new student, joining a sports club, representing the University, coaching, refereeing and as a committee member actively recruiting and encouraging others. I am well placed to help and guide students, with empathy and experience, whatever their role or position. A key priority is the installation of a 3G/4G Astro-turf pitch at Ffriddoedd Village. The Astro-turf at Treborth has been a great success, however many clubs remain at the mercy of unpredictable weather for games and training. The additional pitch would reduce cancellations of training’s and matches, increase student safety, reduce numbers playing on water-logged pitches, increase flexibility of training times, and avoid students being torn between attending training or lectures. All potentially providing our teams with a competitive edge against opponents. As a Sports Science student I am conscious of the benefits to safety, wellbeing and performance of dealing with niggling injuries. I therefore aim to reinstate free physio sessions, previously offered by the university, through exploring opportunities with the School of Human and Behavioural Sciences and external parties. Recognising the excellent achievement of the AU this year facilitating first aid qualifications, I would extend this to coaching and officiating qualifications. Most clubs have membership numbers which justify opportunities being available at Bangor University rather than needing to source them externally and travel. This would benefit individual students, our teams and the AU as a whole. Our amazing facility in Canolfan Brailsford could be better utilised by AU clubs. I want to broaden availability of the current gym sessions some clubs enjoy to all Sports clubs, extending the opportunity to every club for an additional weekly training session using the gym facilities there. And finally, let’s bring Varsity back to Bangor!

CHARLIE JONES SOCIETIES AND VOLUNTEERING I am a Creative Technologies student, and a member of the Promotions and Marketing team within the Employability Service. I’ve also been a Course Rep, a Peer Guide, and part of the Makerspace Society. My previous experience as both a Scout, and Fire Cadet Leader, will allow me to utilise leadership and team working skills to build a stronger union between our societies. What I would do for you: Society Promotion: Experience with the Employability Service puts me in good stead to work closely with societies on improving their social media pages. I’d be eager to introduce workshops throughout the year on online promotion to increase the membership figures of each society. Alcohol Free “Night Clubs”: Alcohol is not the be all and end all of every party, especially when you can have free food instead! Strengthening the relationships between societies will allow us to run safe and fun games evenings, film nights, and more - all with free pizza! Activities: Eager to utilise Pontio to run free screenings of films and shows, as well as offer low cost trips to places like Manchester Christmas Market, Liverpool, Alton Towers, Cardiff, and Zoos! Activities such as crafting, cooking, quizzes etc. would run throughout the year to help and encourage you to switch off after a busy day at university. Experience: I wish to make activities accessible to all by utilising the university’s minibuses as transportation can be difficult. Eager to introduce regular trips on Wednesday afternoons to the M-Sparc Science Park in Gaerwen, allowing a different environment to work in, and also opportunities to improve employability prospects through meeting their tenants. Mental Health: Once a week I would like to hold a ‘walk and talk’, providing various schools with an opportunity to come together to mingle and de-stress. Morning boot camps, as well as various walks run in collaboration with the sports societies to improve fitness and motivation to work, are also offerings I’d like to make a reality.
LUCIENNE HARRISON-ROBERTS Hello, my name is Lucienne (Lou or Lucie for you).
I am a mature student on a foundation year of Biomedical Science in Bangor. My intention in running for a sabbatical officer is to empower students to express their individuality by listening to them and being open to new ideas to improve student life at Bangor University. My initial work as a sabbatical officer will prioritise mental health by ensuring that students are supported respectfully and sensitively. Furthermore, I believe in fairness and diversity in religion, gender, age, and race. Another crucial point, since the pandemic, is the digital online classes situation. Bangor needs to retain the quality of lectures by improving its digital approach to online learning for the future. Students will get more benefits from it, and the university will get more students making sure that everyone gets the same consistent quality of online and in-person lectures. Bangor University has magical surroundings that could be used to its advantage digitally. As a mature student, not all of us can afford to travel long distances, or other reasons, like work, family commitment, and mental health. It is time to adapt; society is becoming more digital. I would like to increase the mature and post-graduation representation and engagement. As a person, I have been fortunate, and I would like to give it back to society by making a difference, supporting my peers, doing the right things with empathy and wisdom. I am also passionate about sustainability. If I am elected, I would like to improve the EV charger points situation at Bangor University and implement one at the university so that all students can use it. My background: Dual Nationality, British-Brazilian, worked in retail management and charity/fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Barnardo's, and Brazil's Hunger Project. If you want a candidate who is friendly, attentive, and approachable, vote for Lucie Fun fact about me. I am originally from Brazil, I love ZUMBA! I lived in LA for five years but missed the weather in the UK. Thank you for reading.
