Spring ’14 Couture

Spring means a lot of things in the fashion world: another fashion week, a new season with a new color palette, and lots of new trends. In general, spring is just new. Fresh blooms and crisp air all emphasize the role fashion plays during this fun season. This spring, you can be sure I’ll have you covered with the essentials, decked in the colors of the season, and up-to-date on the most wearable trends, straight

from the runway.

Trends: Pastels are one spring staple that never seem to cease year after year. The best thing about pastels is each and every connoisseur's ability to customize their palette to their own specific style. Whether you prefer to don a peach, periwinkle, or pale pink, all shades of pastels fit for spring. In addition, pastels are being worn with metallics and bright whites this season. Crop tops were so last season, literally, yet the fad couldn’t seem to leave too soon without a chic farewell in the realm of jackets. Cropped jackets are big this spring, perfect for covering up in chilly weather, but cool enough to show style and give off that springy vibe. As well as any spring jacket, this season’s staple is seen styled dressy, casual, and even with business attire for a fun twist. Finally, something new and a little risky; the shift blouse is a boxy staple for spring 2014, nodding our hats off to our friends from the 50’s. It was a long winter, and I can guarantee you’re not alone if you don’t feel too in shape after being bundled in sweaters and layers for the past few months. The shift blouse is calling our names to add a chic and effortless twist to any simple outfit.

Essentials: This season it’s important to stock your closet with sporty, “borrowed from the boys” pieces, most importantly, a sporty a-line dress and boyfriend jeans. Anything sporty and cool should be sported (see what I did there?) with a feminine twist- like pairing pastels with boyfriend jeans, or a cropped jacket and dress. Another vibe felt this spring in the world of accessories is cheeky, retro, bright sunnies and bold jewelry, especially necklaces. Stand out this season by stepping out of your comfort zone, whether that be experimenting with color or a new piece entirely. Never worn a big cuff? Try it in silver. Even the celebrities are going crazy cool with mirrored, funky sunnies!

Stylish Budgeting By: Hunter

Hey everyone! To start off my first advice column I figured I should start off by introducing myself. My name is Hunter and I blog over at Prep on a Budget. Anna, our lovely editor and founder, first asked me to write for Undeniable at the end of March. We got to talking and I thought it would be a great idea to take the advice column. For this first issue I am going to talk about how to find fashion on a budget! It is really pretty easy; it just takes a lot of looking around and taking time to find the perfect products. So, here are some tips to guide you along the way!

1. Look for Sales: This is obviously pretty

Spring’s Must-Have Item:

Boyfriend Jeans By: Nancy Sevilla Chicago's weather has been such a tease this season! As we thought warm weather was soon to come, we thought wrong....And instead snow came our way...tsk tsk. However I am hopeful that spring is soon to arrive some time within a week or so... Meanwhile, I have been browsing and drooling over the hottest items this spring! I already have a long list of this season’s must-haves! One of the items is something that can be worn many different ways;

Boyfriend Jeans. I have been wanting these jeans for a very long time, and finally found the perfect pair! There are various ways to style this particular item, whether it's dressy or dressed-down; I love this must-have! I decided to collaborate with a few other fashion bloggers and see how they would approach styling it their own way!

Jeans // Shoes

My Look:

So if you are wondering, yes I chose pieces from ZARA. If you have been there recently, their collection this season is to die for! Anyway... I would style these bad boys with a heel (preferably a pointy heel) to dress it up a bit since these jeans give off a more relaxed look. On top I would wear a loose fitted blouse. This particular blouse I am wearing fits perfectly, as it is loose but has a drawstring to fit to the size you'd like it to. I also thought that the little boat tubes design on the top give off a spring/summer vibe, as well as the striped heel! Oh and as for a clutch, definitely wear a color to give it some pop! You know how I LOOOVE my bright colors! Go big or go home. ;-)

Rathana’s Look: Fab Fashionare

“Styling boyfriend jeans, especially for a petite girl like me, can be a challenge. My biggest tip for you is to wear heels! Boyfriend jeans in particular tend to make your legs seem shorter, so wearing them with heels make you look much better. I also love adding a pop of color in shoes or accessories to give your look a feminine and fab touch.”

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer By: Ajah

As part of the CFDA, England based brand and store, TOPSHOP has chosen to participate in the wonderful campaign that is FASHION TARGETS BREAST CANCER (FTBC). Fashion Targets Breast Cancer was created by designer Ralph Lauren, and was first presented to the world in the spring of 1994. Now 20 years later having raised over 50 million dollars to go towards research, designers and brands still strive to get even more accomplished. Many CDFA members have designed merchandise inspired by the cause, along with partnerships from many different sources. This includes everyone’s favorite shopping destination TOPSHOP! They have launched their love campaign and have design a special set of t-shirts and keychains that are available for purchase now! Another wonderful company who is giving back to breast cancer is Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony Initiative. The largest donation you can give is by purchasing their Ricky Bag in pink, but they still have a large variety of other products to help support the cause!

Spring Beauty Essentials By: Katelyn

Spring has sprung and with it comes plenty of new beauty trends. Some beauty looks stay the same every year, but it’s always fun to try out the new trends if you get a chance. These are my spring beauty essentials featuring some of the latest beauty trends!

1. BB Cream BB cream has been a huge trend for quite some time now because it is lighter than a foundation, but still gives enough coverage. It also has moisturizing properties so it makes the perfect every day skin product.

2. Pink Blush Blush is always in season, but for this spring rosy pink blushes are the perfect way to go. This blush by Tarte gives a perfect flush to your cheeks and lasts all day (trust me, it totally does!).

3. Bronzer + Highlighter Duo After a long winter, skin tends to be pale as ever. You don’t have to be in the sun to get some color on your skin though. This Lorac TANtalizer is perfect for achieving the perfect sunny glow.

4. Metallic Eyeshadows Light eyes are super in this spring and I think these two Nars eye shadow colors are perfect. I am all for light, shimmery colors on eyelids and these will be sure to give your lids a bright pop of shimmer and look super natural.

5. White Eyeliner This is my biggest beauty secret! Especially if you’re going for a natural look this white eyeliner makes the biggest difference in brightening up your eyes while looking totally natural!

6. Mascara What girl doesn’t need a great mascara? I love this one by Benefit because it individually coats each lash with mascara and avoids clumps. This mascara is a great every day mascara because it’s semidramatic, semi natural.

7. Orange Lip Color Bright orange lips are HUGE this spring and this tinted lip balm is perfect! These Revlon sticks are a balm and a stain so they add a nice pigment of color without drying out your lips.

Be Fit By: Meredith

Exercise: As spring is quickly approaching, I've started doing more things outside since the weather has become so nice. Running has always been my favorite exercise since it relieves a lot of stress and puts me in such a better mood. Once I’m done running, I like to do at least 20 squats until my legs burn. No, it doesn’t sound fun, but you’ll feel better about yourself in the long run. After your done exercising and you notice that your stomach is cold, that means you’re burning calories. I started doing P90X, which is an awesome experience if you like to exercise in your own privacy. However, they are strenuous workouts and last around 45 minutes to an hour, so proceed with your own caution.

Eating: With my new health kick, I've started a new obsession with smoothies. I've always thought smoothies were such a hassle to make at home and never really put much time into making them. I went onto allrecipes.com and found some amazing and quick smoothies you can make at home. I am in love with avocados and would eat them everyday if I could. They are so good for your body and skin even. I bought an avocado mask, which is so refreshing and cleans your face so well.

Habits: Besides eating and doing healthy things for your body, it's also important to do healthy things for your mind. Clutter is stressful and puts a damper on the simpler things. Go through your closet and take out all the things you wouldn't wear. Think to yourself, "would I wear this tomorrow" and if the answer is no, donate it. You'll feel better about yourself and it gives you extra room to buy something you really love! Like a new spring dress! Clean out your junk drawer and make it a new organization drawer. Cleaning is healthy for you.

Clothing: While you're being healthy its also important look good while you're doing it! I've recently been in love with Lulu Lemon and everything that store makes, from headbands that actually stay on to leggings that don't sag while you run (which is very hard to find). If you ever get the chance to go into to one of their stores, you'll meet a whole bunch of goal setters who love to help you. Their clothes are so comfortable and fit like they’re made just for you! Everything they make is great quality and most importantly cute! Although the prices aren’t the most affordable, I do not regret my purchases because I wear them ALL the time. They are definitely worth the money.

Meredith’s Fitness Picks Fresh made in-store face masks and soap to help your body cleanse in a new and healthy way.

Beautiful salads that are so yummy and filling. An earthy and cool place to eat.

An organic grocery store that has all sorts of interesting foods you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

A frozen yogurt place that takes yogurt to another level with great fresh toppings. Don’t forget to treat yourself!

GET FIT FOR SUMMER By: Ajah

With the summer holidays quickly approaching many of you are stressing on ways to lose those few extra stubborn pounds and to be bikini ready. Here a few of my favorite ways I use to get in shape.

1. Clean eating: like most people I’m not the best when it comes to eating healthy, although I’d like to believe I have a pretty healthy diet I know that I am a sucker for a pint of Ben & Jerry’s chocolate chip cookie dough! But I am also aware of the fact that what you eat plays the biggest part of getting that figure you want.

2. Exercise! Oh no! Yes the dreaded exercising, I am if not the guiltiest person of profoundly avoiding this as much as I can, then I don’t know who is. I typically try to workout 3-5 times a week, and I understand this can be a bit excessive so for those lowly days I cannot muster up the spunk to trek to my gym I give these babies a spin.

3. DIY People are usually more satisfied when they do something themselves. Finding a recipe online or in a magazine. Taking a trip to your local market to purchase the ingredients. Leading to my next suggestion. KEEP A FOOD DIARY! This will help maximize your weight loss- or goal to tone up when you are documenting what you eat. Not only are you controlling the portions and what you eat you’re learning how to make your new favorite thing! We can’t forget to learn a new cocktail recipe as well!

Buy this amazing Exercise and Meal Tracking Journal from MaybooksCompletely customize the cover with your choice of 50+ prints, and even add a monogram!

Spruce Up Your Home for Spring By: Gracey

pillow // bowl // print // vase //throw // candle // sheets

Spring is a time for a fresh start a new beginnings, your bedroom included. I am constantly changing around my room to refresh and to add in some new pieces. I've curated some of my favorite stores for my favorite picks for sprucing up one's room decor. • This blue pillow is the perfect accent pillow for a bed or a chair. This pop of color is guaranteed to bring happy vibes to your room. • The blue throw is perfect for throwing across the foot of the bed for decoration and for lounging. I loved this one because of the color (it's colorful without being too much) and the subtle pattern. • The inspirational print it perfect for those days when you are just not feeling it. Walking into your room and seeing this could give you the extra boost of positivity you need. I recommend putting above your desk or next to a mirror so you see it everyday! • Who doesn't need fresh flowers in their room? I try to keep a fresh bouquet in my room, and peonies are just perfect. One or two stems in this mint julep vase fit for the derby. • This blue bowl is perfect for holding trinkets for jewelry. Decorative and functional! • Diptyque candles are my favorite and they smell amazing. I keep mine on my desk all the time! • Last, but not least, sheets. These sheets are adorned with simple navy stripes and they also come in other colors. Maybe you don't need a full on room makeover with a new duvet or comforter, but changing the sheets might just be the perfect amount of change.
