Swasti, supported by UNDP India and Department of AIDS Control (DAC) implemented an exercise for promoting Social Protection models in India. The purpose of the initiative was to develop effective, efficient and scalable models focused on vulnerability reduction and AIDS impact mitigation. The initiative worked with Key Population Groups such as Female Sex Workers, MSM, Transgender, Person Who Inject Drug and Persons Living with HIV. The case studies demonstrate that the most marginalized groups can access social protection. There are several sex workers, MSM, transgender and PLHIV who have been able to learn and take up schemes that they did not even know existed. Others continue to struggle with finding the necessary documents or wait patiently for the government machinery to process their paperwork.
