Can development challenges be overcome more effectively when practitioners help fellow practitioners? Ideas around sharing mutual experiences and expertise among peers who face (or have faced) similar problems have gained ground in recent years. The potential of peer-to-peer support has been presented as an alternative to traditional forms of international support.
This paper provides an analysis on the role and future of peer-to-peer partnerships and learning in the new development agenda. It takes stock of the current status and trends of peer learning, seeks to identify common principles and reflects on the relationship between peer learning and the new development agenda in the era of universality promoted by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
