Undergraduate course fees Are these fees applicable to me?
Funding for EU students
The following tuition fee information is applicable to UK and EU students studying an undergraduate course. International students should visit our international fees and finance web pages for further information: uca.ac.uk/international/fees
Current EU students and those starting in 2018-19 academic year will not be affected by the result of the EU Referendum, and will still have access to student loans.

Government financial support
Childcare Grant
There are a number of sources of funding to help you with the costs of studying for your degree, which can be divided into two types of funding – student loans and grants. Loans have to be paid back, but not until after you’ve graduated and are earning over £21,000 per year.
This grant could help you with the cost of your childcare, both during term-time and in the holidays.
Grants are available from a variety of organisations, with the aim of helping students achieve a successful education. For more information, please visit: gov.uk/student-finance/overview
If you’re eligible, the amount you receive will depend on your household income, the cost of your childcare and the number of children you have. You can apply for the childcare grant when you apply for student finance. For more details, please visit: gov.uk/childcare-grant
Parents’ Learning Allowance Tuition fee loan This loan can cover the full amount of your fees. The amount you receive doesn’t depend on your household income. You can apply for a loan online at: gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance For more information, see the loan application and repayment pages on our website: uca.ac.uk/life-at-uca/fees/ student-loans
This funding could help towards your course costs, such as books, materials and travel. If you’re a student from England with dependant children, you may qualify for the Parents’ Learning Allowance. If you’re eligible, the amount you receive will depend on your household income. For more details, please visit: gov.uk/parents-learning-allowance
Maintenance loan for living costs
Adult Dependants’ Grant
If you’re an undergraduate student you can apply for a maintenance loan; however, the amount you receive will depend on your household income and where you’ll be living and studying.
This grant can provide extra help if you’re a full-time Higher Education student with an adult who depends on you financially. The amount you can get depends on your income and the income of your dependants.
For more information, see the repayment calculator and paying back loans links at: gov.uk/student-finance
To apply for this, you’ll need to complete the relevant sections on your main student finance application when you apply for student loans. For more details, please visit: gov.uk/adult-dependants-grant

How do I apply for loans and grants? — Full-time English students should apply via Student Finance England. You don’t need to have a confirmed place on a course before you apply for finance. Try to apply as early as possible and if your course changes, you can update your details using your online student finance account. Always check the final deadline for applying to make sure the finances you need are in place when you start your course. The easiest way to apply for student finance is online. Go to: gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance Students from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will need to contact their relevant student finance company – details can be found on page 11. Applying for student finance online should be a straightforward process, but it’s always good to know that our friendly team of specialist advisers are on hand to help if you have any questions or concerns.
How do I repay my loans?
your monthly repayments will be the same however large your loan. If you stop earning over £21,000, you’ll stop repaying your loan and any money not paid back after 30 years will be written off. For more information on repaying your loan, please see the government’s student loans repayments web page: gov.uk/repaying-your-student-loan
How does interest work on student loans? — Interest is charged from the day you receive your first loan payment until the loan is repaid or written off, whichever is first. Any loan remaining after 30 years will be written off. Remember, no student will have to make payments until they are in employment and earning over £21,000 a year, regardless of when they finish or leave their course. For further details about repaying your loan, please see the government’s student loans repayment web page or calculate the amount you may have to repay using the Student Loan Calculator. For more information, visit: gov.uk/student-finance/overview
— The tuition fee loan and maintenance loan for living costs are put together into a single loan, and each year you’ll pay back 9% of your income over £21,000 until the loan is paid off. The size of your repayment will be based on your salary, not on the size of your loan – so 14

Course materials
The cost of renting University single room accommodation is likely to be between £460 and £600 per month, depending on the campus and type of accommodation you choose.
In addition to tuition fees, there may be other costs for your course. The things that you’re likely to need to budget for to get the most out of a creative arts education will include books, printing costs, occasional or optional study trips and/or project materials as well as any extras you need for the show at the end of the year. We can’t give you detailed figures for these costs because they will vary according to the nature of your project work and the individual choices that you make.
In privately rented accommodation, rent costs are around £360-490 per month, depending on which campus you’re studying at. For more information on UCA Accommodation, visit: uca.ac.uk/accommodation Bills If you live in privately-rented accommodation, you may need to pay bills – gas, water and electricity – in addition to your rent. Allow around £60-£80 per month to cover these costs. In some accommodation, bills are included in the rental costs. Food Expect to spend up to £35 per week, depending on who you’re living with and if you plan to share the cost of food.

Contents insurance Having contents insurance is important as it protects your belongings in the event of damage or theft, and you can expect to pay around £5 per month. Transport Transport costs will vary depending on how far you have to travel and whether you’re using public transport. If you have a car, you’ll need to factor in things like insurance, road tax, servicing and MOTs, as well as the price of petrol and parking.
Things to consider
Managing your money
International students working in the UK

Our specialist advisers will be on hand to offer support and guidance on any financial issues you may encounter while studying with us. There are various online calculators and currency converters to help you manage your budget. Getting a part-time job whilst studying in the UK can enrich your experience as an international student. Providing that it doesn’t interfere with your studies, it will allow you to develop your English language skills and make a great addition to your CV. It is also a great way to meet new people and experience more of British culture.
Having a social life Whichever UCA campus you choose to study at, there’ll be plenty of social activities to get involved in locally. For more information about the social life you can have whilst studying with us, go to: uca.ac.uk/life-at-UCA We’re here to help Our Careers service has a list of part-time jobs which provide opportunities to put the skills you’ve developed on your course into practice. For further information, visit: uca.ac.uk/careers-jobvacancies
You should check that you are entitled to work before looking for a job, as you may have a work restriction depending on your immigration permission. For example, Tier 4 (general) visa students have a work restriction of a maximum of 10 or 20 hours a week, depending on the level of course undertaken. This may vary depending on if you are working during or outside of term time. It does not affect work placements that are taken as an integral part of your course but it does apply to any voluntary work that is considered unpaid employment. For more information, please see UKCISA’s advice on working as an international student ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/ Working/Can-you-work or the Home Office Tier 4 guidance gov.uk/government/ publications/guidance-on-application-foruk-visa-as-tier-4-student
