9 September 2016 Dear Student, Congratulations on gaining your place at the School of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Kent. This year promises to be an exciting one for us. We are one of the most rapidly developing sports departments in the UK. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our vibrant School and world-leading facilities, including our Sports Therapy clinic, Rehab Gym and Sports Science laboratories at the Medway Park regional sporting centre of excellence. We are also excited to let you know that this Autumn we will also open our new Environmental Chamber at Medway Park, and Biomechanics and Psycholobiology laboratories in the Medway Building. These new facilities have been delivered as part of a £250,000 University investment into facilities within the School. The summer has been a busy one for the School, as we have been one of the few UK Universities who have been actively involved with Rio 2016. I am currently in Rio presenting my media guide on Paralympic coverage and was privileged to attend the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games earlier in the week. You may have also seen Dr Lex Mauger’s work on brain stimulation which featured on BBC Horizon earlier in the summer. We were also celebrating the success of Susannah Townsend, a recent graduate of our BSc. Sports Management degree who was part of the Team GB gold medal winning women’s hockey team. In addition to their sporting achievements, we have also just celebrated the academic achievements of our graduating students at the Rochester Cathedral graduation ceremonies just a few weeks ago. Our exceptional academic and support staff are looking forward to seeing you progress through the same journey towards achievement and excellence, so let’s get started. The week after next is Welcome Week, and I look forward to meeting you on Monday 19th September at. 2.30pm in Pilkington PK008 on Campus. Please ask at registration if you need directions. Attached to this letter is the Welcome Week (week 0) timetable. Please note the sessions that you are timetabled for as it is important that you attend each one to make sure that you have the required information to start your studies the following week. If you have any problems in attending Welcome Week, please contact our Student Support Officer Michaela Fullman (M.J.Fullman@kent.ac.uk). I hope that your time with us proves both enjoyable and successful. Yours faithfully

Dr. Sakis Pappous, Head of School
