More than a degree

We recognise that studying for a postgraduate degree is a big investment. To ensure you can maximise the value of your studies, we offer you a range of opportunities to help you get more from your Bedfordshire experience. A DEGREE MORE THAN

UNLOCK YOUR LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL

Postgraduate study gives you the chance to build your confidence and skills to become a leader, enabling you to develop your own ideas, your own voice and your own opinions. We also give you opportunities to put these skills into practice, and provide concrete examples to employers, by being a course or faculty representative, helping to raise and solve issues on behalf of your peers. You can also set up and run a student society with the support of the Students’ Union, or you could earn money working as a Student Ambassador, representing the university at Open Events.

LEARN FROM INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS

With regular industry talks and masterclasses across all faculties, you will have the chance to hear from professionals working in your field, providing you with the opportunity to grow your industry network and ask any questions you may have.

ENHANCE YOUR INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Getting involved with extra-curricular activities can enhance your studies, and give you additional personal and professional benefits. Choose activities that complement your studies to enhance your career and provide a rich resource of examples as evidence in your CV and LinkedIn profile. You can get involved in a range of ‘real-world’ work experience initiatives such as our very own radio station, Radio LaB. If you are on a creative course, you will also have the opportunity to showcase your graduate portfolio at exhibitions and degree shows. Offering additional opportunities for graduates to get industry experience, the University's Research & Innovation Service works with local businesses, helping them solve some of their most pressing challenges and giving Bedfordshire graduates real-world experience.

DEVELOP TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

At the University of Bedfordshire, we offer 12 employability units, which you can take alongside your academic studies. Whether you want to learn a new language, develop your public speaking skills, enhance your networking skills or improve your international outlook, you will learn and develop key transferable skills which will help set you apart from the competition.

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, build confidence, develop your practical leadership abilities and gain sought-after work experience. Knowing you are making a real difference to people’s lives provides a ‘feel good factor’ and also helps boost your CV and LinkedIn profile.
