Law

Our exciting postgraduate courses give you the opportunity to study law from a truly international perspective, under the guidance of an experienced, dedicated academic team. Our Centre for Research in Law (CRiL) also offers many opportunities to get involved in professional projects, engage with world-leading research and learn directly from experts.

Careers

Achieving a specialised Master of Laws (LLM) is widely regarded as a way to significantly enhance your career prospects within the legal profession. Most graduates develop in their career to become company legal advisers, practising solicitors and, in some cases, barristers within their own jurisdictions. Some students go on to pursue further academic study through MPhil or PhD qualifications.

Q&A

Dr Mohammad Alramahi

Principal Lecturer in Law and PG Law Portfolio Leader

How will a postgraduate qualification enhance students’ professional careers?

Throughout the LLM, the focus is on the identification, analysis, evaluation and application of legal and regulatory principles. Embedding these transferable skills within the course is a conscious decision to not only develop academic thinking but also to prepare students for the demands they will encounter in professional practice. The wide variety of assessments enables our students to develop a range of communication skills invaluable at both an individual level and when working as part of a group.

Did you know?

As part of your final Capstone project and in addition to our traditional Law Dissertation option, you have the opportunity to choose Law Live Project, which brings you into contact with the reality of professional legal practice and how it operates. By engaging in a live project, you can apply your existing knowledge to real-life cases, and use critical evaluation and reflection to propose appropriate courses of action to a client.
