A warm welcome to you if you are starting your studies in February 2014. The Library Handbook is full of essential information to get you started using the services on offer in your LRCs/Library. Pick up your copy or view it on our website at: lrweb.beds.ac.uk
Our BREO community Study Hub Online now includes more learning materials to help you in your studies and academic skills.
You’ve been telling us what you think of the new computers, furniture, lighting and learning spaces in the Luton campus IT Suite and the new Silent Study Floor at Bedford campus Library:
Silent study space works well for me - I can focus on my studies.
“
Comfy chairs - just need more table space for laptops and books.
“
Much improved. Good to see we are being listened to.

You can use any of the campus LRCs/Library, so if Bedford or Luton isn’t your “home” campus you are very welcome to come in and use the resources.
The “Invisible Library” will help you develop your skills in locating, using and managing resources for your academic study. The 9 units in the tutorial take you through all stages from planning how to write your assignments, searching smarter to find appropriate academic sources to how to manage your time effectively. If you need help accessing the units or help with research for your assignments, please contact your Academic Liaison Librarian lrweb.beds.ac.uk/alls

iPads There are now 10 open access iPads available in the Luton campus IT Suite for looking up information quickly. Reading Lists
New Library
Learning Resources is bringing in the Talis Aspire software to create reading lists for students to access the learning material for their course. Academic staff will be able to add or change items listed and develop the list as a learning tool in its own right.
Work is progressing in the new Luton campus library which is due to be completed in Summer 2015. The new building will offer the latest digital learning technologies, an expanded space for print resources and flexible study space for individual and group study. It will connect to the rest of the University’s Luton campus via a bridge link.
UoB reading lists can be found at readinglists.beds.ac.uk Just type in the name of your unit to see if it’s been added or browse the hierarchy. For more information or to arrange a demonstration and discussion about your reading list, contact your Academic Liaison Librarian: lrweb.beds.ac.uk/alls
Computer Skills Training In addition to our regular workshop programme, this term we are piloting an open workshop session. This will be an opportunity to learn computer skills with a trainer on hand to help with any questions you might have. This and all our regular workshops are advertised on the LR What’s On? calendar at: lrweb.beds.ac.uk/whatson
