Forward
FORWARD Alice Hardaker Development Director
Happy New Year to all our graduates — it is my great pleasure to be introducing our winter edition of Alumni News to you. I recently joined the University of Suffolk as its Development Director, overseeing the University’s alumni relations and fundraising activity. In just a few short weeks I have already been amazed by our powerful community of alumni that are dedicated, talented and wonderfully supportive of its alma mater. It’s been so inspiring.
our region, through education, training, research, and business and community engagement. Thank you for all the time you have volunteered, for the social media posts and stories you have shared, the donations you have generously made and the support you have given to students about to embark on their careers. As ambassadors for your University, you make a powerful impact on current and prospective students as well as the wider community that we serve.
Kate, our Alumni Relations and Development Manager, and I are here to help you ensure that your journey with us doesn’t end with graduation: that we continue to support you to reach your professional goals and your relationship with the University, or one of its previous institutions, is lifelong. We hope that you will engage and re-engage with us.
In this edition you’ll find further information on how you can stay connected to us. We are always looking to improve and develop our offer to you as part of our alumni community and we’d love to hear your thoughts. Read on too, to learn about upcoming events and opportunities and some exciting new developments taking place.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the University and its mission to transform lives and
I very much look forward to connecting with you throughout 2022 and beyond.

STAY CONNECTED Alumni Blog — coming soon
If you could share one piece of advice with a current student, what would it be? Do you have a nugget of wisdom you have always wanted to share, something you have learned since graduating that you want to pass on to the next generation?
Look out for our new LinkedIn pages coming soon. Replacing the Alumni Association group, we will be launching four new LinkedIn pages which will be connected to each of our schools: Suffolk Business Grads
We are starting an Alumni Blog. A space where our graduates can provide one-off or regular posts sharing skills, knowledge, and expertise with our current students. We are looking for graduates from a range of years and courses to get involved, providing fun, interesting and relevant content to our audience, on a regular basis or as a one-off. We will provide a list of topics for inspiration, or you can choose your own. This is a simple and effective way for our Alumni to share their wisdom, experiences and expertise with our students whilst complementing our existing student blog. If you are interested in being an Alumni Blogger, contact Kate Burgess on alumni@uos.ac.uk.
Engineering, Arts, Sciences and Technology Grads Social Sciences and Humanities Grads Health and Sports Sciences Grads Whether you graduated from the University of Suffolk or one of our current or former, partner institutions, you are welcome to join these pages providing you with a new way to engage and connect with the University and each other. The University will be opening its new £13m state-of-the-art Health and Wellbeing building in spring 2022, a space on campus dedicated to the promotion of integrated care among our student body, practice partners and the wider community. In the next edition of Alumni News, we will focus on this new and exciting venture bringing you detailed information about what’s on offer and how you can be involved. Integrated Care Academy (ICA) and Suffolk Business School Joint Suffolk Executive MBA including the innovative module — Health and Care Integration: Policy, systems, practice and leadership. Do you want to lead effectively? Staff within the ICA are working alongside the Suffolk Business School to embed an exciting and innovative specialist module on leadership in Integrated Care Systems within the Suffolk Executive MBA. This will enable future leaders in health, social and third sector care, as well as housing, the police and fire services, to build effective delivery, management and leadership within integrated care. We know from prior research that leadership is one of the most influential factors in shaping and changing organisational culture. Effective leadership, at all levels, is associated with health and care improvement, greater staff wellbeing and, an overall increase in quality of care. It is also recognised that the new Integrated Care Systems need leaders who can motivate staff and managers to work differently across service and organisational boundaries.
‘Leading differently’ at all organisational levels The wider MBA and this specific module will enable you to lead differently. Throughout the module, we will explore: International, national and local models of integrated care The evidence underpinning efficiency, effectivity and cost-effectiveness of integration The role of data and digital integration in achieving better outcomes
What's new?
Organisational cultures and behaviours and ‘levers’ for change Transformational leadership The future of the Integrated Care Systems workforce.
We will receive presentations from those who are delivering integrated care to ‘learn from their learning’ as well as from those who are ‘experts by experience’. Case study work will be embedded throughout to ensure that expertise in theory and models can be implemented in structures, policies and practices.
What if I only want to do this module? This module is not available as a ‘standalone’ course. We want to make sure that your learning is recognised and you can receive a Postgraduate Certificate. To do this, you will need to complete the additional ‘Leadership and Organisational Behaviour’ module. For further information on all modules, visit uos.ac.uk/mba.
What financial support is available? For this first cohort, full funding is available from the Integrated Care Academy to cover the University fees to undertake the two modules that will ensure you can obtain a Postgraduate Certificate. If you wish to carry on with your learning and continue with the full MBA, this will need to be self-funded or supported by your employer. For funding fill out our application form.
Where do I find further information? To find out more about the Suffolk Executive MBA, visit uos.ac.uk/mba. Alternatively, please contact Dr Karen Windle on k.windle@uos.ac.uk or our Admissions Office on admissions@uos.ac.uk.
