We hope that this will inform you of the many ways you can work with us; whether accessing our knowledge, expertise and facilities, students and graduate talent, or letting us take care of your organisation’s training needs, including Apprenticeships.

HOW CAN WE HELP? Please complete our very short survey which will help us develop programmes and activities which will best serve our local business community.

INVESTING IN OUR WORK WITH BUSINESS We want to expand our business relationships and be the place local organisations come to for help with growth. As a result, the University of Suffolk has recently expanded the team so that we can work with you in a

much more meaningful way. We now have Business Development Managers covering different sectors and working closely with the corresponding University Schools, and have simplified how you access the support you need.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the new team so you know who to get in touch with.

OPENING OUR DOORS ON A NEW PARTNERSHIP Over the past few months it has been great to welcome new and old faces into our prime Ipswich location Business Innovation Centre. Hot off the press we would also like to inform you that we have recently partnered with Innovation Labs to create Innovation Labs @ University of Suffolk. This now means tenants can access any of Innovation Labs spaces in the region and expand their network. The Centre offers both fixed and flexible office space, car

parking, workshop programmes and access to meeting rooms and other high-quality facilities such as our 3D Printing suite. Members see value in being co-located with our Business Development Managers and being the first to know of available grant funding, internships and other opportunities. If you want to have a break from working from home and to network with other businesses get in touch and find a plan to meet your requirements.

CONNECTING WITH LOCAL TALENT The Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team is here to match you with the wealth of talent available within the Suffolk student and graduate community. We run a variety of initiatives throughout the year, many in collaboration with local, national and international organisations, and we are always keen to hear from those that would like to get involved. We’ve got lots of ways you could link with students, including live workshops (face-to-face or virtual), one-to-one appointments, face-toface drop-ins on campus, careers festivals and more.

This isn’t the only way to reach local talent. You can also offer an internship, work placement or graduate opportunity; connect with our academics to provide real life projects and problems for students to work on within their degrees; provide support to our entrepreneurs of the future; and much more. Speak to us about current funding opportunities to support this work. Remember — our free online job board is always available for you to promote your vacancies throughout the year to our student and alumni communities.

DEVELOPING THE SKILLS WITHIN YOUR BUSINESS We offer a broad range of short courses and in addition to these current opportunities, we are very happy to discuss your organisation’s specific training needs and tailor courses to your individual requirements.

We have a free public lecture series and each School at the University hosts their own free seminars which are also open to the public — we’ll bring you details of these in future newsletters.

Our Leadership Academy has recently partnered with ILM (The Institute of Leadership and Management) to offer ILM level 3 and 5 training with our first courses starting in the next few months.

Plus, watch this space for the launch of the Suffolk Speaker Series, keynote addresses and networking delivered in partnership with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce. Read more about our CPD / Short courses

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS Many of our graduates go on to run their own businesses or take up high level positions in local companies, testament to the quality of our graduates. Quite often they continue to work with us, providing opportunities for current students. One such alumna, Steph Calver, completed her first and postgraduate degrees with us, leaving in 2014. Steph is currently the Product Development Manager at Nomad Foods, the largest frozen food company in Europe.

They manufacture, sell and distribute across 13 European countries and have a manufacturing site based in Lowestoft.

Steph is currently promoting job vacancies on our social media platforms and job board and is in conversation with course leaders so that she can link with the students on related courses, share experience and raise aspirations and potentially lead to the creation of work placements and internships. If you are a graduate of the University of Suffolk or one of our partner or previous institutions and would like to discuss how you can stay connected to the University, please email our Alumni Relations and Development Team or visit uos.ac.uk/alumni
