Giving to the University of Suffolk

MAKE A MARK ON THE WORLD THAT CAN’T BE ERASED􀌢 Maya Angelou

The University of Suffolk is a transformational University. In a world where nothing ever stays the same, we all need to change, evolve, succeed and change again. We are a distinctive, thriving academic community making a clear and immediate impact, and we are strongly embedded in our local region — a university of, and for, the people. Our research and innovation brings national and international recognition to the region and supports regional growth and development. By making a donation to the University you are helping to meet our ambitions to create change, to innovate, to revolutionise and ultimately, make history. Gifts to the University serve to form a major part of our future, allowing us to expand our activity and engage our communities in different and interesting ways.

OUR UNIVERSITY Our commuity We take our obligation to make a difference in Suffolk and beyond very seriously, and we continually seek to enhance the experience of our students, staff and the wider community.

Our vision By 2030 we will be recognised as an empowering force for individual and community growth and development. We will be recognised for the major contribution we make to the health and wellbeing of the people in our region and acknowledged for lasting social and sustainable economic transformation.

“The University of Suffolk is a leading example of widening participation for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Actively promoting 1st generation applicants to access education is a significant example of how the University is succeeding above and beyond. Donations to the University can have a huge impact on the student experience, enhancing the employability of our graduates and providing numerous opportunities they may not have had otherwise.” Dr Helen Pankhurst University of Suffolk Chancellor

OUR IMPACT The generous gifts made by our donors enable us to make transformational financial contributions to our students, staff and facilities. We have been gratefully receiving donations from our friends, staff and supporters since 2016. Staff and students are invited to apply on an annual basis and all funds are disbursed by our Foundation Board in accordance with, and in support of, the values and principles of the institution. The projects have varied in size but have all had a significant impact on both staff and students alike. The wide variety of initiatives we have supported have enabled us to focus on enhancing the student experience and provided us with a means to actively respond to the needs of all.

“I wanted to make a donation to the Annual Fund because I think it is very important to help students who may not otherwise be able to afford to participate fully at the University. I believe that the fund will achieve significant impact supporting research centres and extra-curricular opportunities to ensure the best possible student experience. I look forward to seeing the outcomes of my involvement as I proudly continue to be a part of the University of Suffolk’s community.” Terry Hitchcock Supporter of the University of Suffolk

Midwifery Equipment and Training (PROMPT)

“The bursary will help no end with covering the general expenses for competing at the highest level for Scotland. Travel, accommodation, competitions, training camps and kit are a few things to name that I have to pay for out of my own pocket. With the financial support from the University of Suffolk SU I can concentrate fully on my training leading up to the Commonwealth Games without worrying about the financial implications of getting there.” Cameron Lister Gymnastics

PROMPT Train the Trainer is a practical, obstetric, multi-professional training package for health professionals to develop knowledge, clinical skills and team working in obstetric emergencies. The funding also provided practical obstetric equipment used by students to demonstrate normal and complicated births such as breech or shoulder dystocia.

“Within the midwifery department we were delighted to receive funding towards receiving a new PROMPT simulation mannequin as well as the opportunity for four of the lecturers to go on PROMPT Train the Trainer training. Within the midwifery course the students have a High Risk and Complex Midwifery module. It is fundamental that the students are able to learn and understand the management of cases outside of the scope of normal midwifery prior to going out into practice.” Becky Baker and Jo Butler Midwifery Lecturers
