FLEXIBILITY Studying at postgraduate level requires time, commitment and focus. When you already have responsibilities around your job, your family, and your life in general, fitting study in can be challenging. That’s why we offer full-time and part-time study, and the choice of day, evening or (for some courses) weekend classes. At UOW, we don’t believe your present situation should get in the way of your future prospects. Across the year, UOW offers five separate starting sessions. These are dependent on the course you wish to study and the UOW campus you attend. Some programs are offered by distance delivery and others have classes scheduled as ‘weekend intensives’, where you attend uni for one full day every 3–4 weeks, making it easier to arrange your study around your life.

Delivery Modes

ON CAMPUS This is our most common mode of delivery and will see you attend classes at a UOW campus between Monday and Friday, during regular class hours of 8.30am – 5.30pm.

EVENING CLASSES This option offers classes after 5.30pm to help make attending classes convenient for students with commitments during the day.

WEEKEND CLASSES Some faculties offer postgraduate subjects on weekends, making it easier to fit your study around your life.

DISTANCE AND ONLINE DELIVERY UOW integrates online learning into most of our subjects. This may include online tutorials and class discussions, and the review and submission of assessments. A number of degrees are available entirely by distance, allowing you to study from wherever you happen to be.

BLOCK DELIVERY Some of our postgraduate degrees are offered in successive full-day classes allowing you to rapidly cover course material.

Our Campuses UOW has two campuses in Wollongong, our main campus and the Innovation Campus (iCampus) only 5 minutes away. We also have campuses outside of the Illawarra in the Shoalhaven, Southern Sydney, Batemans Bay, Bega and Moss Vale. At each location you’ll find supportive, knowledgeable staff, modern resources and facilities, and friendly student-centered environments. Our Sydney Business School (SBS) also delivers programs from our Sydney campus at Circular Quay.

OPTIONS AND APPLYING Coursework Programs

Research Programs

Studying a UOW coursework program will help you make a positive impact on your career. You will develop practical, relevant skills based on the latest findings and practices from around the globe. Your degree is completed through subjects focusing in particular disciplines or professional areas. Some coursework degrees also offer research subjects.

There are three research options, Doctor of Philosophy, Professional Doctorate and Master of Philosophy, and entry requirements vary across program options.

Similar to undergraduate study, postgraduate coursework assessments are based on a combination of written assignments, presentations, formal examinations, class participation and practical exercises.

You should first determine your field of study and then identify, contact and consult with the faculty or academic unit that conducts research in that area. The faculty or unit website will help you identify a potential supervisor.

Costs UOW offers Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) for a number of our postgraduate coursework degrees. A CSP is where the Australian Government funds, on average, about three quarters of the total tuition fee for the program. If you’re an eligible Commonwealth Supported Student you can access HECS-HELP to defer part or all of your tuition fees.

For Australian citizens and permanent residents, most research programs are exempt from tuition fees. It is a UOW and Australian Government policy to award domestic Doctoral and Master of Philosophy students a fee exempt place. For further information visit uow.edu.au/student/finances

Scholarships UOW offers a wide range of research scholarships and awards to eligible domestic Higher Degree Research (HDR) students. These scholarships are in the form of stipends and allowances to assist candidates in meeting their living costs while they undertake their research. Please check individual scholarships for allowances and stipend amounts. In addition to UOW HDR scholarship opportunities there are external scholarship opportunities as well as discipline specific and industry based scholarships available. For more information visit uow.edu.au/research/rsc/prospective

Research STrengths UOW has built our successful research reputation by focusing on Research Strengths, grouped by the following five research themes: Environmental Sustainability; Innovative Materials, Engineering & Manufacturing; Health & Medical Research; Information & Mathematical Sciences; and Society, Policy & Culture. UOW is home to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science and is involved in a number of ARC and Cooperative Research Centres. A number of our research institutes and centres are supported by the National Food Industry Strategy, NSW Health, the Royal Australian Navy, and industry partners including BlueScope Steel, Integral Energy and leading companies in the pharmaceutical and information and communication technology sectors. For more information on UOW Research visit uow.edu.au/research/strengths

The remaining postgraduate coursework programs are full-fee-paying, however you may be eligible to access FEE-HELP, a loan to cover part of or all of your tuition fees. For information on fees and payment options visit uow.edu.au/future/postgrad/costs POSTGRADUATE COURSE DIRECTORY
