For The Love Of Music Mon Valley Community Band Provides Entertainment and Offers Musicians an Outlet to Keep Playing

The Mon Valley Community Band is a group of local musicians who volunteer their time and talents to bring music to the local area. The members range in age from teenagers to people in their eighties who simply like to play music. This local music ensemble has been in existence for over 100 years and continues the tradition of bringing lively musical presentations to a number of audiences throughout the year. The band is made up of people with varing backgrounds. It has many members who are or were music educators. There are people

from the medical profession, executives, salespeople and truck drivers. Some are retired but many are still working. Max Gonano acts as the director. He has a long history in music education and ended his career as the Chairman of the Music Department at California University of Pa. Max has a knack for teaching and improving the playing ability of the members. The repertoire performed by the band include a plethora of numbers ranging from traditional band marches to lyrical compositions, from lively

broadway show tunes, to pieces brimming with patriotic nostalgia. They also hit a lot of arrangements of current music and never forget about the "oldies". From Sousa to Gershwin and Bach to Rock! What sets this band apart from others is that the music is never boring. So where would you expect to hear the band? They perform at retirement communities, senior citizen homes and community events throughout Southwestern Pa. The audiences always appreciate the band's performances which is shown by being invited

back year after year. Does this sound interesting to you? The band is always looking for new members. Whether you are a seasoned performer or someone who played "once upon a time", join the fun. There are some members who had not played for years. But playing an instrument is like riding a bike, with a little practice it comes right back to you. For more information visit the band’s website www.mvcb.ofswpa.org or email mvcbofswpa@gmail.com to get started.

Through the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation, the Hospital was able to donate the portable device to the police department. “It was a pleasure to meet Mayor Bob Kepics and Chief Kevin Harris when they came to the Hospital to accept the defibrillator,” said Mark Spitzer, executive director of the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation. “On behalf of our Hospital, we are delighted to provide this life-saving device to the police to benefit the community.” When accepting the device, Chief Harris explained the importance of having a defibrillator available to the police officers. “When an individual is in cardiac arrest, minutes count. Police typically arrive at local homes and businesses before the ambulance since we have patrol cars out in the community and the ambulance companies service many communities. By giving our officers access to a defibrillator, we can administer care that can increase a person’s survival rate by more than 60 percent.” Monongahela Valley Hospital chose a lightweight, portable, battery-operated AED for the City of Monongahela Police Department. According to Chief Harris, the compact device will be in one of the police vehicles during every shift. In addition to thanking Monongahela Valley Hospital and its Foundation for the generous gift, Chief Harris also expressed appreciation to Monongahela Mayor Bob Kepics who approached MVH for the defibrillator. “Many years ago, Monongahela Valley Hospital provided a defibrillator to the City and we were in need of a new one for our police,” the Mayor explained. “When I approached the Hospital, they graciously agreed to donate a new one. They truly put our health first.

Examples of these good works include supporting student scholarship programs, visiting hospitalized veterans, and participating in fund raising to assist the VFW’s network of service officers. The unit is unique among many local veterans service organizations as it does not own a bar, or have auxiliary or social members. All of the men and women on its roster have been decorated with a campaign or occupational medal, and meet the requirements of membership into the VFW. Smog Museum Listed in Book – “100 Things to Do in Pittsburgh Before You Die” The Smog Museum of the Donora Historical Society was listed in the book “100 Things To Do In Pittsburgh Before You Die” as #78. The book of bucket list items that people from Pittsburgh or visitors to Pittsburgh should accomplish before they, well, “kick the bucket.” The story of Pittsburgh’s transformation from a smoky steel town to a modern, high-tech city draws people from around the world to this corner of southwestern Pennsylvania. Since 2008, the Donora Historical Society has given Donora a presence in the world through our Smog Museum. People seek out the Donora Historical Society primarily due to our history with the infamous 1948 Smog, Stan “The Man” Musial, our Cement City historic district and other topics. We’ve formed partnerships with various institutions; museums; universities; newspaper, magazine and book authors; documentary film crews; and students at the middle and high school levels, as well as college students and professors. Our outreach programs take us throughout southwestern Pennsylvania giving presentations at universities, historical societies, libraries and assisted living care facilities. Located in the heart of Donora at the corner of McKean Avenue and Sixth Street, the museum has permanent exhibits related to the founding of the town, town life, steel mills, the 1948 Smog tragedy, Donora schools and sports, social clubs and organizations, and a rotating exhibit whose artifacts change three to four times a year. Ordinance Complaints Dominate Carroll Twp. Meeting

New Eagle to Address Property Inspection Issues

By Miranda Startare

By Miranda Startare

Several residents addressed the Board at the July 2 Carroll Township Supervisors Meeting about property ordinance violations that are creating unsafe and unsanitary conditions, according to the residents. Resident Maya Patch expressed concerns about snakes, mice, and rats inhabiting her neighborhood along Route 837. Another resident also addressed the snake and rodent problem, suggesting that the issue has escalated since the demolition of an abandoned house on Caroline Avenue last year. The resident told the supervisors that the house should have been exterminated before the demolition to prevent the scattering of the rodents throughout the surrounding community. The supervisors responded that there is no legal requirement for the property owner to exterminate before a demolition and that the township cannot spend taxpayer dollars on exterminating private properties. Two other residents spoke to the supervisors about similar issues, including raccoons, groundhogs, high grass and weeds, and other properties that need to be removed, according to the residents. The supervisors assured the residents that the township is working on the issues with locating property owners and that they will send the property inspector to the properties to issue any necessary fines. In other business, the township has approved a request from Waste Management for a two-year extension to the current municipal waste contract.

New Eagle Borough Council held its July 2 monthly meeting and discussed issues they have been encountering with rental inspections and occupancy permits. According to the council, an increased number of property owners seeking to rent their properties are not making the necessary improvements or meeting the standards that the inspector is detailing for them. When the inspector returns to inspect for the approval of the property, the changes are not being made, and oftentimes, the landlord is not present as is required for the inspection. These property owners are causing the inspector to come to the same properties on multiple occasions, wasting time and borough money, according to the borough. Council also notes that the rental residents are often moving into the properties without occupancy permits having been granted. Council has asked the borough solicitor, Tim Berggren, to help in the legal solutions to the issue. Also at the meeting, Monongahela Police Chief Kevin Harris announced that police patrols for speeding have increased since the last meeting when residents discussed areas in the borough where an increase in patrols was necessary.

UNION TOWNSHIP NEWS Municipal Offices: 3904 Finleyville-Elrama Road, Finleyville, PA, 15332 •724-348-4250 Secretary/Treasurer: secretary@uniontwp.com Asst. Secretary/Treasurer: jcarmen@uniontwp.com Public Meeting Schedule: The Union Township Board of Supervisors meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm. Follow our Facebook page for important notifications & events! www.facebook.com/uniontwppa/

SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL – TIME FOR REST AND RELAXATION AFTER A HARD WINTER? – NOT FOR THE UNION TOWNSHIP ROAD CREW. The spring inspections of Union Township’s roads revealed just how much damage the unusually heavy rainstorms over the past six to eight months in our area have caused to our roadways - roadways that were already vulnerable due to the terrain and need for better storm water management systems. Serious slides and road wash-outs were noted and scheduled for repairs that needed to be done soon and done right. Priorities have been set and steps taken to get the needed repairs completed in a manner that assured township funds will be spent on lasting improvements. To get this formidable task rolling, plans have been made and are being implemented. 1. Existing storm water holding ponds located on private and some public property were inspected and most were found to be in need of maintenance. Steps are being taken to assure repairs and maintenance will be carried out. 2. A Road Crew Superintendent with heavy experience in roadway maintenance was brought on board to provide supervision to the Road Crew for projects that will remain “in-house”. Mr. Ken Puglisi Owner of KDL Enterprises was contracted as the Road Crew Superintendent in mid-April and is likely to be around for some time providing daily supervision to our road crew employees. Mr. Puglisi is reporting directly to our Roadmaster /Supervisors with Supervisor Rick Lawson (also with heavy road maintenance experience) being “first on call”. 3. Projects, identified by the Board, as candidates for completion by our Road Crew have been prioritized and will be completed under engineering

direction. 4. Financial help offered by Sunoco (Mariner ll Project) and EQT Production for payment to compensate for roadway damage caused by heavy vehicle use on township roads will be fully utilized. 5. Financial grants will be sought and, if awarded, may bolster our distressed road maintenance budget.

SLIDE DAMAGE REPAIR PROJECT ON LOBBS RUN ROAD SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED A washout and slide caused by torrential rains swelling Lobbs Run Creek over its banks between Finleyville Elrama Road and Aber Road has been repaired. The swollen creek washed out the berm support of Lobbs Run Road. That section of Lobbs Run Road was closed for nearly four weeks to facilitate the extensive repairs and resur-

facing. A berm supporting retaining wall of concrete blocks was constructed that will support approximately 275 feet of roadway and protects the road from further water erosion damage. The cost for materials and repaving was approximately $74,000 which included Labor cost for use of our own Road Crew. An estimated cost, had the repair been bid out at “prevailing rates” was estimated to have come in between $90,000 and $120,00 - a great job done by the Road Crew. Visit our website at www.messengerpaper.com and click on the photos gallery for more photos.

SLIDE REPAIRS - COAL BLUFF ROAD AND OTHER MAINTENANCE. Repair of several slide areas and cross drains on Coal Bluff Road were begun on July 7th in preparation for repaving the section from Rebecca Road to State Route 837. That section of Coal Bluff Road will be closed for an estimated four weeks. Three slides have been assigned to The Road Crew. Several new cross drains may also be needed. Repairs and/or new components have already been installed or repaired on Don Street, Patterson Road and Airport Road.

NEW UNION CONTRACT RATIFIED – ROAD CREW AND TEAMSTERS 205 After several weeks of negotiations, a new five year Collective Bargaining Agreement between Teamsters 205 and Union Township was ratified which will govern, in part, operations of the Union Township Road Crew Employees. In conjunction with the new agreement, an updated Employee Handbook has been drafted and will become available to all employees after

final Board approval. For the present, the Union Township Road Crew Employees will report to Mr. Puglisi. Mr. David Barkey (Road Crew Operator) elected to leave the Employ of Union Township. The Board of Supervisors, Administrative employees and former co-workers wish him success in his new position. The Road Crew presently consists of the following personnel. • Mr. Kenneth Puglisi – Acting Road Crew Superintendent • Mr. Albert Banahasky – Foreman and Union Steward • Mr. Shaun McQuillan – Operator • Mr. Ron Lovrich – Operator

WELCOME BACK NICOLE A big “Welcome Back” to Nicole Wright (Secretary Treasurer) who was on maternity leave and a “Job Well Done” to Joan Carmen (Assistant Secretary /Treasurer), who had her hands full while Nicole was on leave. Nicole, Joan and Mr. Puglisi are administrative employees and are NonUnion.

WARNING TO RESIDENTS Residents installing their own storm water drainage systems along Township roads need to be aware that the Township road right-of-way cannot be intruded upon without review by the township engineer. Incidents in which damage has occurred to drain pipes and/or “cleanout access pipes” have occurred recently. The township will not reimburse for damage to “non-permitted” systems intruding into the road right-of-way. Be aware that some of the lawn you cut may actually be on the road right-of-way. The Township Secretary can get you the advice you need.

Candelore's Barking Beauties Opens in Finleyville John LaCarte, Joyce Branthoover and Jon King

Hard-work built our country, but sometimes, hard-work can use a little luck. In 1907, founder William B. "Stoney" Jones was playing a friendly game of poker; hours passed, fortunes turned and Stoney walked out with the deed to the Eureka Gold Crown Brewery in his pocket. Stoney went to work crafting the best all-malt Old World Beer he could brew, and it did not take long before people started asking for "Stoney's Beer". In 2017, Jones Brewing Company returned to ownership by Jones Family with purchase by Jon King, great-grandson of Stoney Jones, in partnership with John LaCarte. The LaCarte and King/Jones family histories have been intertwined in Smithton from the beginning. The ownership goes back four generations - making it more than just a business.

Candelore's Barking Beauties celebrated a grand opening and ribbon cutting at their newest location, 3467 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. This mark the third business location, with the Elizabeth CANDELORE’S BARKING BEAUTIES – Lenny Lucas, and White Oak as Eric Ash, Salon Manager Lacey Spenillo, Owner and the other locations. General Manager Kelsi Candelore, with Baby Addison, Open 8am to 6pm, Norm Candelore, Jeff Oliver Wednesday through Sunday, no appointment needed. Call 724-782-0828.

Women’s Guide Enhance Your Summer Look With These Style Tips (NewsUSA) - Since summer brings an explosion of bold colors and vibrant patterns, this season's trends are no different. So pack away your dreary duds, your winter boots and clean out that closet to get yourself ready for some fun in the sun. Unsure of where to start? The following summer accessories are a must: * Slip into a dress. A slip dress is a simple, elegant base layer that can be dressed up with accessories and is a trend worth paying attention to. To get a high-fashion look, layer them with frilly undershirts and jumpers.

* Fancy your footwear. If you're anything like Carrie Bradshaw, the best way to dress up an outfit is with a pair of wedge sandals. The right pair of wedges can glam up your look, make your legs look long, yet still allow you to move comfortably. If, however, you prefer shoes with little to no heel, you'll be happy to know that flat-flats are in (think ballet slippers and gladiator sandals.) * Go glam with glasses. Choosing eyewear that's not only stylish but functional can be difficult. Transitions lenses are great because they block 100 percent of the sun's harmful UV

rays and are available in nearly all prescriptions. They also come in a variety of colors that complement your personal style and frame choice. With one pair of lenses, your eyes will feel comfortable indoors or out, in bright light, low light and everything in between. * Choose a hat. As important as it is to get some natural vitamin D, too much sun is bad for the skin. A floppy hat is a great accessory that lets you flaunt a style that fits your personality, get a little sun, but still protect yourself from harmful UV rays. * Grab a bag. A statement bag is

the perfect way to enhance your look. When choosing the right purse for your outfit, think luxe fabrics, contrasting textures, and bright patterns. Pair with a great pair of glasses to pull off a celebrity look. For more information, please visit www.transitions.com.

WOMEN’S GUIDE

Women Say They're Ready To Put Their Money To Work For Them (NewsUSA) - More women than ever before are realizing they need to make their money grow for them. For decades, we've been hearing about an "investment gap" between males and females. And while it still exists, a whopping 72 percent of women in a new survey by Fidelity Investments said they're ready to make bolder moves in the coming months - including investing more of their savings. "Women tend to be the CFO of their household," says Kathy Murphy, president of personal investing at Fidelity. "They tend to pay the bills, they tend to make 80 percent of the purchasing decisions. This (investing) can be part of it." The point about investing more of savings is crucial. While 44 percent of females polled for the firm's "2018 Women and Investing Study" were currently putting their money to work in the market beyond just retirement accounts - that compares to 59 percent of men -more than a third of all women reported having $50,000 or more still sitting in checking and savings accounts that pay a pittance in interest. And that third or so includes those who do invest outside of, say, company 401(k) plans. But if even $20,000 of that cash was invested in a conservative portfolio mix? Over five years, in a typical market, the money could potentially swell by $5,733 vs. $80 in a basic savings account (and potentially $2,961 in a typical five-year CD). Millennial women would seem to be taking those numbers most seriously, which accounts for much of the optimism underlying the report. Forty-eight percent of them are already investing their cash, as opposed to about 40 percent of both Baby Boomers and Gen Xers. "This is the first time in the almost decade we've been doing this study that we've seen Millennial women on track to really lead the way," notes Murphy. Don't misunderstand: No one's saying people - men or women - shouldn't

keep at least enough cash on hand in savings to cover three to six months of living expenses. That's a fundamental rule of thumb among financial advisors. And Murphy contends that women who do invest actually turn out to be "great" at it for this simple reason: They come up with a long-term plan based on their own or their family's goals, and then they allow their investments to grow without tending to make the mistake of trying to time the market. Many online tools can help women looking to better manage their financial lives. Fidelity, for example, offers a free 10-minute "Financial Wellness" checkup that's a first step in developing such a plan, and the firm also just launched a new "Demand More" site designed specifically for those with two X chromosomes. The latter, which is also free, includes personal stories from women like the 54-year-old with two grown children who "restarted her finances" after her divorce. As for why women lag men in investing, Murphy has her own theory: "Sixtyfive percent of them equate it with picking stocks. But it's not about that. It's about having a financial plan and sticking to it."

Working Moms Stay Connected to Children Through Messenger Kids (NewsUSA) According to research from Working Mother Research Institute and Messenger Kids, 79 percent of working moms find that there is a constant struggle to find the right balance between being at work and being with their kids. They never want to miss a moment with their kids, but also feel the pressure to be present at work. Getting updates throughout the day makes working moms feel more connected to their kids, and Messenger Kids, a new app available in the US for iOS, Android and Fire tablets, is making it easier for working moms and their kids to talk. Messenger Kids puts the power to communicate in the hands of children and lets them reach out to mom whenever they need to. "After talking to thousands of moms and working with the Working Mother Research Institute, we've found that 84 percent of moms wish they could have a brief look into how their child's day is going. Most feel there's a need for apps that let kids connect with people they love, but also have the level of parental control parents want," says Antigone Davis, Facebook Global Head of Safety. Communication apps such as Messenger Kids have many benefits, including: • Connection. Apps are a great way for children to connect with the people they love. Messenger Kids features a library of specially chosen GIFs, frames, stickers, masks and drawing tools that let them decorate photos and videos and have more fun with video chats. • Control. Messenger Kids helps ease parents' concerns about how children are using devices and whether they are using apps that are age-appropriate. It also gives parents more control. Parents fully control the contact list and kids can't connect with people that their parent does not approve. • Convenience. Apps, especially those built for kids, must be easy to set up and use. Once the account is established, the home screen shows kids at a glance whom they are approved to talk to and when those contacts are online. In addition, parents can chat with kids through their regular Messenger account, so it's convenient for both parent and child.

GASTROENTEROLOGY Q: I suffer from acid reflux and I have heard many bad things about the treatment options. What should I do?

A: Upwards of 26% of the population in the U.S. suffer from weekly acid reflux symptoms. These symptoms may include heartburn, regurgitation of gastric contents, difficulty swallowing, nausea, chest pain, cough, hoarseness and the sensation of a lump in the throat. Because of the prevalence of acid reflux, Dr. Mark Cedar also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the Pittsburgh Gastroenterology majority of patients usually end up on medications such as Associates antacids like Tums or stronger meds like Ranitidine (Zantac) or Omeprazole (Prilosec). These popular medications have generated many eye-catching headlines over the past several years and I will discuss this below. But first, we should understand the dangers of having uncontrolled acid reflux. Barrett’s esophagus is a chronic condition that I diagnose very commonly in patients with acid reflux. This occurs when the lining of the esophagus is replaced with specialized pre-cancerous cells, commonly in the lower third of the esophagus. Barrett’s occurs in 0.9 – 20 % of patients who suffer from GERD and typically does not produce any symptoms and is only discovered when a patient undergoes an upper endoscopy (EGD). An EGD is a 5-minute long painless exam performed by a Gastroenterologist where a thin flexible lighted scope is inserted over the tongue into the esophagus, stomach and upper intestine. Barrett’s can be seen in patients of any age, gender or race but is twice as common in Caucasian men with an average age of 55 years. Smoking, obesity and excessive alcohol use also increase the risk. I often find this disease in patients as young as their late teens or early twenties. The major concern in chronic reflux patients and Barrett’s is the potential for progression to esophageal cancer. Between 0.2 – 2% of patients per year with Barrett’s will develop cancer of the esophagus, known as adenocarcinoma. Typically, we recommend patients undergo EGD if they suffer from regular acid reflux symptoms, especially if they require medications to control these symptoms, and in any patients who have had even occasional reflux for 5 years or longer. Once a patient is diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus we educate them on following strict “anti-reflux precautions” which includes weight loss, limiting caffeine and alcohol, avoiding nicotine and late-evening snacking. All patients are started on a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) such as Omeprazole and undergo surveillance endoscopies with biopsies every one to three years. Occasionally, we find more advanced cells on biopsy known as dysplasia and this is treated with an endoscopic procedure called Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA). We do RFA in an outpatient setting during a regular EGD and is a drastic improvement over the past 15 years when prior to that the patient sometimes had to undergo surgical removal of the involved esophagus. The biggest danger of PPI therapy is their availability over the counter. Although convenient, they are often used inappropriately without seeking consultation with a physician. I end up stopping these meds nearly as often as I start them. My big concern in patients who have required long-term PPI therapy is they may be covering up symptoms of damage to the esophagus such as Barrett’s or cancer. In the past several years, concerns have been raised about side effects from chronic use of PPI medications such as dementia, osteoporosis, heart disease, vitamin and mineral malabsorption, kidney disease and interactions with other meds. All patients on PPI meds should discuss these potential side effects with their primary care physician or Gastroenterologist.

APPLIANCES Q: Why Should I Buy A Weber Gas Grill? A: The answer extends beyond gas grills to cars, toys, electronics, homes and anything else with a use or exchange value. Quality. Weber balances quality with price and personal accommodations like size, features, color, etc. Many customers walk into Highway Appliance and declare "I want a Weber grill." When "Pothole" asked, most do not know the models, sizes, features or Highway Appliances colors available nor what they would prefer if availability were not an issue. This is because Weber branding has become synonymous with reliable quality and service. Any Weber grill owner who has decided to save a few dollars on a new grill by buying the everchanging models at the local Big Box store quickly realizes the huge difference in value that a few extra dollars buys. What is it worth to save one hundred dollars if eight months later the ignitor breaks -- and the replacement part does not exist? Every replacement part of a Weber gas grill can be changed and Weber rewards dealers who make repair parts available at the retail level. Weber has been manufacturing barbeque grills for several decades and they never branched off into making tents, lamps or jackets. All they make is BBQ grills and grilling tools, books and accessories. Caring about the food you cook on your Weber is not a marketing gimmick because Weber is a true barbeque company. All they make is BBQ grills and they do it great. Service partners, like Highway Appliance, are set up to provide warranty service on-site for immediate repair of any problem experienced with Weber grill parts. Availability of replacement grill parts is very important as a typical Weber barbeque will be in service for over ten years. Stop in today and check out the quality of a Weber Gas Grill for yourself. 2214 Rt. 88, Dunlevy (Exit 40 off Interstate 70, and just minutes off Rt. 43) 724-326-5616 www.highwayappliance.com

Home & Garden How to Afford a Pricier House in the Neighborhood You Love (NewsUSA) - When Danielle and Jimmy returned to their home state after three years in Germany, they spent the next six months looking for their first home. How to Afford a Pricier House (Continued from previous page.)

in better shape. But we kept coming back to this one. It was in the perfect spot. And when we found out there is a beer garden in the park in summer, it was a done deal!" Danielle says. They successfully closed on the house in January and spent a month painting, installing a new kitchen floor and remodeling the master bath before they moved in. So how did Danielle and Jimmy manage to buy a more expensive home and have money left over to fix it up? With direction from their loan officer, here's how they did it: 1. They were pre-approved before starting the house hunt, so they knew their price range. 2. They used conventional financing with private mortgage insurance, which allowed them to put down 5 percent instead of 20 percent. Their mortgage payment is higher, but still within their monthly budget. 3. The lower down payment made it possible to buy the more expensive home. 4. Putting less money down also allowed them to keep cash for the renovations. For more information on how to purchase a home with conventional financing and a low down payment, check out the articles and videos on this website, created especially for first-time homebuyers: readynest.com.

Local Worship 15th Annual "Praise And Worship In The Park" in Monongahela Grammy winner Todd Agnew From Dallas Texas to Perform *The sounds of praise and music will once again echo through Chess Park in Monongahela during the 15th annual “Praise and Worship in the Park,” on August 9, 10 and 11. Activities will begin at 12:00 noon, and run until 9:00 p.m. A number of area churches, ministries and

non-profit organizations will join together for this day of praise, music, food and fellowship. A variety of activities are planned, including allday musical performances, children’s activities, and food booth and informational booths. Musicians scheduled to appear will include: Journey by Grace church, First Baptist church, Shepherds Voice, First Christian Church Praise band, and From the Top. This year to headline at 7:00 pm, from Dallas Texas, is Grammy winner Todd Agnew. You may be familiar with his million-selling worship single, “Grace Like Rain,” but not know Todd as a Bible teacher. Fans may know him as an artist jubilantly singing “In The Middle of Me,” and not know him as a worship leader. They may be acquainted with the

deep honesty and theology of “My Jesus” and not know him as a joyous storyteller. Todd’s concert weaves these many threads into the compelling tapestry that’s an honest telling of his life and music. The event is sponsored by the First Christian Church Monongahela. A partial list other participating churches include: Journey by Grace Methodist, First Baptist (River Rising), Saint Damien of Moloaki, Option Resource Center, Bethel AME, and many more. Other ministries which will be represented include, Christian Bikers, GoTime Ministries, and Shekinah Ranch, to name a few. This event is being held in conjunction with Monongahela's 250th celebration. Events will be happen-

ing all around the town. There will be a FREE concert for area youth on Friday, August 9, starting at 6:00 pm in Chess Park. Sponsored by “Go Time Ministries.” The high energy group “EMG” will perform at 7:30pm. Free Refreshments and prizes will be provided for those 17 and under as long as supply's last. Food will be available for purchase. All ages are welcome. An open worship service will be taking place on Sunday August 11 at 9:30 am in Chess park. All are welcome. Any ministry or church wishing to join the day’s festivities, or anyone wishing more information, should contact First Christian church at 724-258-3255, or DJ Fogiato at djbrick@comcast.net.
