Monessen Free Store Preparation Day Scheduled

The Monessen Free Store will be one step closer to being ready for the public. There is a Free Store Prep Day on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Schooner Youth Center – the location of the new Free Store.

The Free Store committee is looking for volunteers to clean and prepare the store for the public, to help transport shelving and racks to the store, and to greet people as they bring their donations. Anyone may bring new or gently used items during the event too – however the store will only be accepting items and will not yet be ready for the general public to visit. Items being accepted are clothing and accessories of all ages, sizes and types, small appliances and household items, home décor, school supplies, and other similar items. The store will not accept large furniture or electronics such as phones and game consoles. The store will also not accept perishable items, but it hopes to be able to do so in the future.

For more information, or if you would like to volunteer, please contact the Monessen Free Store on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/freestore15062), or email co-coordinator Matt Shorraw at mshorraw@gmail.com.

SOUTH PARK WOMEN’S CLUB TO HOST SPEAKERS AT MARCH MEETING

Have you seen the restored Nevin Shelter in South Park? How about the Cascades? Did you hear about plans for a Paul Riis multi use trail or restoration of the Edgebrook Shelter? Have you noticed removal of invasive species from the pond on Maple Springs Drive and all the new trees popping up throughout our park?

If you would like to learn about the above as well as other projects happening in South Park, please attend the March 20 meeting of the South Park Woman’s Club, where Barbara Brewton, Institutional Giving and Project Manager for the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and Carolyn Savikas, Chair of the Friends of South Park, the County Park will be our guest speakers. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM at the Twp. Community Center Bldg. across from Bavarian Village. Besides speakers and a business meeting, refreshments will be provided by club members that night. Women from surrounding communities are welcome to join South Park Women’s Club that evening, if they wish.
