The Thomas Jefferson High School and Pleasant Hills Middle School Cheer teams delivered exciting and successful performances resulting in Top 10 finishes at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships (NHSCC).

The TJ Small Varsity Cheer Team placed third to earn the Bronze Medal in the largest division, Small Varsity Div. II, which included 81 teams from across the nation. The Jaguars performed their routine in the preliminaries and advanced to two rounds of semifinals before becoming among just 13 teams to advance to the finals.

The PHMS team finished eighth nationally out of 48 squads in the Small Junior High competition. The squad performed in the preliminaries and advanced to the semifinals; the Jaguars were among just 10 teams that advanced to the finals.

A third squad from West Jefferson Hills SD, the TJ Large Varsity Game Day team, advanced through the preliminary round to the semifinals, but came up just 0.6 points of advancing to the finals.

“We are beyond proud of the athletes, their preparation and determination at Nationals,” said Kim Stadelman, who coaches the TJ and PHMS Cheer teams. “It was an exciting and successful competition and we’re thrilled for the students that all their hard work delivered such fun and rewarding results.”

The UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships were held February 10-12 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
